I know look is subjective, but in my opinion, I think this is the best looking in its class. Also probably best interior too, or at least top 3.

Sport modes aren't supposed to be "efficient" they are supposed to be SPORTY. Sports modes make the drive a bit more rough in almost all cars
@Ryan-hp6xt

Sport mode isn't meant to save fuel, it's meant to maximize power output, that's why it revs higher and holds the gears longer. If it were meant to be efficient and save fuel they'd call it an Eco Button or something.

I am In the process of upgrading my CX7 luxury Turbo Sport to a CX5 GT Diesel. Test drove the GT diesel 2.2 Turbo last week and POW! Kick and Guts. Love Mazda cars. Started with a MX5, then Mazda 6 and CX7 and next week a brand new CX5. Great cars and no complaints not even a single issue over the past 15 years.

My wife and I actually purchased a 2016 base model with Convenience Package here in the states and it came with the 2.5 L engine. Almost like a budget Touring model...we are loving it. Amazing car and very swift for a CUV.

I got 2013 GT used auto and love it the 2.0 nice and very torqey on the low end. Since you have driven both would you say there is a huge difference between the 2.0 and the 2.5? I know it has to be noticeable just wondering how noticeable. Good review.

It would be interesting to see you compare this to the 2016 Hyundai Tucson - I know they won't be around yet for a while , but would like to see the pros and cons - yes I know it won't handle the same but what Mazda gives up is usually taken by Hyundai - content etc....good review as long as people remember that not everyone who buys a CUV is planning to take it to the mat on a twisty road...

Been looking for a nice CUV. Shortlist came down to the CX-5, CRV, and Rav 4. Test drove all three and I have to say I fell in love with the CX-5. Extremely easy to handle and fun to drive. The CRV on the other hand was always vibrating whenever it was idling which became annoying after 5 minutes of driving it. The Rav 4 was a nice drive too but being a tall person I felt extremely cramped in it. Thanks for this video, was hoping you'd test out the CX-5 before I bought one

@lungulet

About that sport mode: I think sport has nothing to do with efficiency so it is ok that it holds the gear to 4000 rpm. It would be better with 5500. In the end you push that button to get some power and hp and torque in NA engines are available from 4000 rpm up.
@MatchuCT
@MatchuCT 9 жыл бұрын
I think he means it more that when you're done accelerating, it still keeps it to high rpms. The system should know when to up shift if hes cruising or not accelerating hard enough. As for the 4000rpms, thats when the engine (2.0L at least) has its peak torque. 4-5k rpm has less torque than 3-4k, so its better to upshift. and it seems that the 2.5 peaks at 3250 rpms. Sometimes redlining (or reaching the higher rpms) isnt always the answer, specially with the newer engines that provide peak torque earlier
@lungulet
@lungulet 9 жыл бұрын
MatchuCT I understand but why upshift when you finally reach peak torque and when you enter into the hp territory? The only situation I can imagine when high rpm doesn't do any good for acceleration is when you have a small turbo on a diesel engine.
@MatchuCT
@MatchuCT 9 жыл бұрын
Lungu Gabriel why? because I think you're forgetting this is a cx5, not a Furai or an mx5. They probably put hte sport button to make it FEEL sporty, not to have people coming in for hte first 2 years asking for a new engine covered by warranty.

2016 CX-5 GPS PROBLEM Does any body know when Mazda will resolve the real-time "traffic update" feature on its new (2016) NAVTEC GPS for the CX-5? The option doesn't work (it is gray), so alternate route(s) are not displayed when traffic delays, congestion, accidents, detours, road construction, etc. are encountered on a planned route.On the previous CX-5 models (2014; 2015), the TomTom feature was called "traffic alert" and it worked (most of the time).

+OriginalCrazyBonez5 Try the new Hyundai Tucson, it's a bit bigger and did very well on the IIHS crash test however, I do like what Mazda did with the Skyactiv technology . The 2017 Kia Sportage is much better than the 2016 due to a redesign structure.

The Sport feature is to make the car more sport! not fuel efficient. Meaning that it will down shift the gear sooner and up shift later to get the most torque out of the engine to the wheels. Asian engines usually generate the highest torque in high RPMs (above 5000) compared to European models. So, it will hold the gear longer to increase the acceleration in cost of lowering MPG. The sport mode is not for long cruising and urban use, but only for high acceleration and high performance demanding situations.

d2zl I decided to go with the CX-5 GT. The Rogue wasn't as spacious as I thought when compared to the CX-5. Driving dynamics, there is not comparison, the CX-5 destroys the Rogue. Don't get me wrong, the Rogue is a nice car, but I wasn't willing to spend 30k in a car with an engine from 2007.

+Ray Zong Oh please how can you compare a turbo to a non turbo? Only the Subaru xt has more power and it's because of the turbo the regular Subaru only has 170 hp which is less than the CX5. Don't worry Mazdas new 2.5 skyactiv turbo produces 250hp and 310 ftlb of torque at only 2000 rpm. It's debuting in the new CX9 and will probably trickle down to the other cars in the future

I have driven both the Mazda CX-5 Akera and the Hyundai Tucson highlander. I hate to say this but there are so many reasons why Hyundai Tucson is a far better compact SUV. The five main reasons in my experience is: - no rear air vents - boot space is small - I hate how they still have stop/start, it's so annoying - you can't fold back the rear seats - no automatic tail gate?? What a joke?? Here in Australia is cost $58k for a new Mazda CX-5 Akera and $51k for a new Hyundai Tucson highlander. Now Mazda has to play catch ups, well done Hyundai.

The interior and exterior look and feel like a $35k car if you buy the top trim. It's a low end luxurious car with great handling, so don't expect power-folded side mirrors and powered gate. The only down side is the acceleration, it feels slow and heavy, and doesn't match up with the exterior and interior look of it. This car definitely is screaming for a 240 turbo to 320 HP v6 engine.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson looks more modern and attractive than the 2016 Mazda CX-5. This Mazda's design looks really soft and weak. It doesn't have much personality and lacks dominance. The handling is very numb to the touch which is not a good change from the 2015 model.
