That DeOxit solution is AMAZING stuff! I drove myself crazy chasing down an intermittent cruise control issue on my 1993 S-10 Blazer. Finally decided to clean all the electrical connections with the magic sauce and BINGO the problem went away. Been working fine for almost a year now. Visual inspection of all the contacts never revealed any corrosion but they sure must have been. You get the credit for salvaging both my cruise control and my sanity.

The first time it only made it 5 miles before the code was triggered. Returned and code was checked and cleared. Left and only made it 4 miles and code returned. Hood wasn't opened on the first trigger on a possible throttle body issue ? Maybe a "Oops" moment. But, no parts required and that's how we like it. Wish I had half your expertise Ivan. Your the man.

If they were in in a rush because they were stuck in traffic, I can see an oversight happening very easy. Many years ago, my brother's alternator died on a highway in a construction zone (very little shoulder). Cars whizzing by at 70mph makes you not put everything in it's proper place under the hood. Today's impatient, distracted drivers are worse.

Great diagnosis and repair again Ivan! Had a similar 06 Mazda 3 brought to me by a customer a month back, had disintegrating connectors at the coil packs but was way worse than the connector you worked on and had to change all 4 of those. Yup, the battery cover likewise didn't want to latch in, as the side covers were warped along its side, seems like a thing for these models. Cheers!

The transmission control module (TCM) is also a common failure on automatic models. ( BK & BL series) Unfortunately Mazda decided to mount the module on the transmission case, causing the heat to damage the module . You will get the AT light come on the dash along with the check engine light.

The flat duct draws fresh air to the battery to cool (hence the battery cover) the battery, air exits battery box on the side to cool the ECU.

I was expecting a rub through on the harness. I figured with the pressure of the plastic pushing the harness up against a engine that's vibrating it would damage the wires.nice find. it seemed like a stupid problem but i can see this easily happening to anyone .

ack! that noise was a click or spark? lol... all I heard was spark. was fixing a few vacuums for my daughters business last night. one randomly turned off as you swiveled it. I starting that exact same thing you did to the wire going from swivel base to motor... on off on off on off, I couldnt figure out which wiggle was causing on off. wiggle into motor, or into swivel base. then Bzzzzt fire POP. LOL. the wireS were frayed mid jump wire! lol. they shorted briefly, instant red hot, fire then POP which blew out the fire all while I quickly went for the off switch lol... took it all apart and replaced the jump wire. so seeing you do that caused me to think ivan stop stop! LOL... I would have zip tied that battery cap down loosely in one spot towards engine by poking 2 holes. because I would be worried it would fall forward.

Great solution! I have recently changed the spark plugs( was aftermarket normal ones) in my mazda 3 2006 but now feeling the performance has gone down 😞 When i try to shift to gear 2 the engine seems to be losing power and the throttle cones back to 1000. Any idea what could be the reason? Is it the spark plug? I did not have this issue before.

Haha, well to give them credit if the honda died of a dbad alternator it ran the batyery 100% flat. Most inexperience people don't know that you have to leave the jumper cables on for a while to charge the battery a bit before you can sometimes even start the car, nevermind giving it that extra 10 mins or so to get the extra charge in there to make it to a destination.
@Garth2011

Seems like a lot of problems are a result of car owners getting under the hood or into areas of mechanical stuff where they shouldn't be. In other countries a lot of repairs are performed by the driver with parts that are laying around the point of breakdown. You know, whatever is there to improvise. I imagine they were in a hurry to get the car out of the intersection and mistakenly closed the hood on top of the battery cover and never opened it again while having problems. Some folks are better off paying their auto mechanic to go over their vehicle more often to keep them in good condition/operation to cover the fact that they have no experience or knowhow and should leave their car issues up to mechanics vs DIY. I'm sure the battery cover got broken when they were in a hurry to access the battery with jumper cables so that took care of likely a $90 part. At least they changed to a decent car, they should be taught to leave the auto maintenance up to Ivan and let him at least do an inspection of it and catch any issues ahead of time.

Why do they insist on putting those stupid covers on everything these days? That cover over the battery probably caused 90% of the corrosion by holding the acid fumes in there instead of letting them vent off. Before long they'll be putting pretty little lace doilies on the alternator.
