Mazdaspeed3 teardown continues but there is a big problem! | Engine Swap Series Part 4

In today's episode I go about transfering everything from one engine to the other but I find some unexpected damage !

The exhaust, intake manifold and throttle body gaskets are all metal and reusable as long as they aren’t damaged too much!

The oil cooler (on top of the cracked oil filter housing) can be separated by removing the single bolt on top. Plus, yours looks like it might be the newer design by Mazda and not the crappy FoMoCo oil cooler that originally comes on the car (which is black in color).

I reused all the metal gaskets when I did my swap

Reused the exhaust manifold, turbo and down pipe gaskets. Changed the others as the black section ripped in a few areas. Thx guys !

can you put a second gen engine into a gen1 ? my gen 1 motor is going out very soon.

I would think so but some plugs, sensors and mounts may be different. I’m no expert in 1st gen cars so you should do a bit of research or ask others who may know more. Thx.
