MBDA Albatros NG / CAMM-ER naval air defence system

MBDA was showcasing for the first time the Albatros NG, a brand new CAMM-ER based air defence system, at SEAFUTURE 2021.

Albatros NG is a new generation Naval Based Air Defence (NBAD) system, based on the CAMM-ER, which is the extended range variant of the Common Anti-air Modular Missile (CAMM) family already delivered to customers around the world for both ground based and naval air defence.
In March 2021, MBDA announced it has been awarded a first contract for Albatros NG. Under the terms of this recent order, Albatros NG will be in service in 2024.

the unknown customer of camm er is Pakistan navy for BABUR(Milgem) class corvettes .In my opinion jinnah class frigates( based on milgem class corvette design) will also use same camm er , as its quite a new generation SAM missile in town .

Hoping the PN will push for the CAMM-ER or Albatross NG for there Future Corvettes instead of the VL-MICA. The advantage of CAMM is it could be stored in quadpacked in a single cell VLS like the ESSM and a slightly longer-range compared to the MICA.

Slighlty longer DISCLOSED range. CAMM (let alone CAMM-ER) has a larger rocket motor and less drag than VL-MICA, so I highly doubt the relative ranges are even close to what has been disclosed.

Though the Royal Navy is using its own launcher solution,can the CAMM-ER system be quad-packed in a Mk.41 launcher or tri-packed in a Mk 41 ExL launcher?I would appreciate the feedback!

Yes, it is possible. However the Royal Navy🇬🇧 uses the CAMM. The CAMM-ER is the Italian licensed version with a longer engine designed by Avio🇮🇹.

Usually at trade shows they'll have discussed what they would talk about (and things they can't talk about) before they film the interview, I'm assuming that at defence trade shows that's even more true than with consumer tech. So since this is a common question, it suggests MBDA didn't want to talk about it (at least yet).

@@fantasyfleet the Type 45s don’t have CAMM installed yet, the Type 23s do. And on those the VLS is definitely not space-saving. And do you have a source which proves it can be quad-packed into Sylver launchers? If so, it still hasn’t actually been physically done yet.

@@TT-hd3zi For reference the 32-cell Sea Ceptor launchers on the Type 23s take up just over 50 square-meters of deck space, whereas a single mk.41 with the same capacity for 32 Sea Ceptors only takes up 6.6 square meters... Almost an order of magnitude less space. Three ExLS 3-cell launchers (that seem to be almost tailor-made for CAMM) with a capacity for 36 missiles, might be an even better option if Sea Ceptor is all you're planning on using with it as they're main selling point is being light weight & compact designed for small, cheap ships.

ESSMs were already upgrades. That's what the E stands for, Enhanced.

There’s no need with the US because all of their VLS is designed for hot-launch and so there wouldn’t be any space/weight savings by using a cold-launch system.
