@@genli5603 I've been working in laboratories for decades and I'm always cautious around mercury. Eating elemental mercury is surprisingly not as dangerous as one may expect. Evidence for this is in the dental use of mercury. Mercury is most dangerous when it can get into your blood. Pretty soon there will be billions more people really polluting the environment making cattle not a big deal. Also, when humans throw food and other things away methane is released in dumps. I always think it’s hilarious environmentalists bring up cows and methane, but never mention that humans produce a huge amount of methane as well. Clothing is a huge user of fossil fuels. Yea.... Mercury is notoriously toxic. Since it IS a liquid it evaporates at room temp and if breathed it's very toxic. It can also seep into your skin if you hold it long enough or have a cut. It does irreversible damage, and once it is in the body it ends up in your kidneys and brain, if it was not already expelled through urinating or defecating... And it will never leave your body.

You can absorb some mercury through skin contact, but not much, and generally not enough to be a problem. It is mercury vapor that is so toxic and if they were handling it like this in an enclosed room they would certainly be having problems. If they heat it they would increase the problems for health. However, since these men are apparently handling mercury regularly they are at increased risk of skin absorption. Stepping back when the nitric is added probably isn't enough distance. If you can smell it you have probably inhaled mercury vapor too. I don't know if mercury affects sperm, but pregnant women and children should not be living in or around mercury vapor.
@Metal_Master_YT4 жыл бұрын
You mention all these hazards, except they aren't doing many of them. they aren't in an enclosed area, they are outside, everybody I see in the video is not a pregnant women or child, they aren't heating the mercury either. if it wasn't for the nitric acid I think they would have been fine. if they step back from the nitric acid, its probably adequate. Mercury does not absorb through the skin very well, in fact, its so slow that you could touch it for hours, even days and you would be fine, these people have water and dirt on their hands, the mercury will have a heck of a hard time absorbing through both the water, dirt, dead skin and then the living skin, much less make it all the way to the internal organs. the water covers the mercury, suppressing the vapors almost entirely. not to mention mercury makes almost no vapors in the first place. and you cant smell mercury metal vapor, its odorless. the only real thing worrying me here is the nitric acid.
