To be honest, if we take the type of protag, the useless/dense protag paired with a charismatic/sensible character has been around since the 2000s but not normally in a pure romcom form (mostly for self inserts). I mean Shana s1 and 2, Ah My Goddess, Tenchi Muyo to name a few with easily self inserted MC. In the mid 2010s though the MC self insert changed to the edge types like Hachiman or Ayanokoji. Then we are going half circle back with sort of growing protags backed by active females. I mean in Uzaki he gets less dense, in Nagatoro builds up confidence, Takagi has a spin off that solidifies this trend where self inserts feel better since they mature with them.

Id say the primary difference is how mainstream anime has become and in turn the narrowing of the genres intent: Otakus and japanese teenagers gushing over cute characters vs a direct demand for substitute/fantasy lovers. You see this demand on KZbin, twitch, and of course, onlyfans, huge amounts of content being generated to sate chronically lonely people. A sad sign.

More than trope, those 4 are RomCom or Romantic Comedy, althought you could say that Nagatoro, Takagi and Uzaki are following the same trope, of Annoying/Loner dynamic in diferent degrees Takagi being the lightest and Nagatoro the hardest, while Komi it's also a RomCom(kind of) it's highly different than the other 3. That'll be in comparison with let's say "shonen" Dragon Ball, Death Note, Shokugeki no Souma and Haikyuu are similar because those 4 are part of the "shonen" demographic. That being said, Romcoms are definitely not for everyone, and some are betters and some are worse, some are more annoying than others, Uzaki was highly annoying to see at least for me, but Nagatoro was alright, nothing special but it was ok while Komi was highly entertaining, and their highlights are actually the parts when they're not focusing in "love" but in friendship, but as any genre there are good and bad apples, and there might be something that you can like and something that you despise I know that this is probably a joke, but the amount of job done by OLM producing Komi was astonishing, that it's kinda sad that it's actually being dismissed by some people actually believing that's just a "loner bait" I guess you can call it like that, but you can hyper summarize pretty much everything and make it sound bad in the process, at least try something before dismiss it, anyway sorry for over extending in this trivial matter, I just wanna point out these, for absolutely no reason other than express my opinion.

Everytime this tweet mentioned there's always that one reminder. The other three Shows are the girls that the one for no reason attracted to MC ("bullying" MC i guess) and loving them and treat them with so many things, meanwhile komi-san is just silent girl that has communication disorder. Can't even approach people normally. The anime all focused on the journey of her Getting rid out of her disorder, making 100 friends. Just a wholesome show. The Romance not even that heavy like other three (not even close). So i got mad when people put komi-san in a same trope as those three. I don't have hate to other three, just clearing some misunderstanding. Also facts, the other three MC feels like "useless" (just do blushing all the time), meanwhile the komi one dude actually has extremely good room reading ability and makes Komi becoming brave person. People can self-insert to those but not komi. (You'll surprised at how many Times people tries to self-inserting to komi Show and ends up mad or sad, meanwhile the other three is extremely great anime for self-insert and makes people feel awesome. Its because the loneliness and friendship aspect on Komi is being told really different. "I'm a lonely person like komi, but why i don't have that many friends, why i'm not popular, why i ...." its Kinda curious, I've seen 3 of those shows, and a lot of the fans be it those who consider the titular anime girl as their Waifu or not, always seem to forget to mention how the Man who the titular anime girl is chasing, is in some way or another a chad (except maybe for Komi san can't communicate, but they mention it mostly because it's a meta joke in the series itself).For example: the senpai in Uzaki's anime is a Buffed up, handsome and preety respectable, standing his ground as he works at a place he loves, after working out in the swimming pool for years before college, and the fact Uzaki asks him for help in her college homework; then we have Nagatoro's senpai, who seems to have both the patience of a saint, and so much talent in painting he can make something that could be considered photorealistic in his world, ant that's not even considering his hospitality and kindness. In short, reasons for the aftermentioned anime gurls are in loved with their ojectives.

In the 2000's and early 2010's all the protagonists of harem and trashy-fantasy-fulfilment anime had going for them was that they were super kind and like half the time they weren't predator-level pervs. (At least of shows I watched). It really is insane how low a barrier they made the bar for guys to envision themselves as desirable in these shows back then. My main examples would be stuff like To-LoveRu, Girls Bravo, Rosario Vampire, Haganai, MM!, Mayo Chiki, etc. The main characters are all guys who are swarmed by women because they are super nice and a little less creepy than other guys in their world.
