As someone who walked into YCS Hartford playing Therion cards (which came out the weekend of Hartford), sat down for 8 rounds and had 7 opponents ask what my Therions did every time I played a card which led to like half of my rounds almost reaching time despite playing at a high pace myself, Gage saying time rules get screwy on release weekend is definitely a take I can agree with. Literally had people reading Regulus like 4 times a game despite it being a pretty straightforward card.

Yeah, I'm surprised that Gage got flak for that one. Like, it's literally a meme that Yugioh players don't read their cards. He gave the most basic take in history, and Farfa was acting like he was talking nonsense.
@kindklan8020
@kindklan8020 2 жыл бұрын
well regulus has some weird quirks to be fair, like how it can actually send itself for cost... usually cards effects and costs can't send the card thats activating them, and also it's not a negate destroy it's just a negate. when equipped to another therion that monster now has regulus effect. Although that card is using regulus effect it's still a Hopt because it counts as regulus effect, but if that monster is negated it's technically the monster activating it and is therefore still negated (for ex imperm) also idk why but for some reason if a therion card is negated by like an imperm or droplet the equipped cards are unequipped i believe(I literally have no idea why)? Regulus effect just requires it to be able to target a therion so if Chain 1 Regulus Chain 2 called by on regulus special summon target regulus is still special summoned. Also regulus can only send monster cards for cost, not therion cards. Keeping in mind as well if you don't read thoroughly you might be cheated; in case something like negate destroy or send a therion card and not therion monster for cost matters... but i mean once you know the above you are set!... for this card alone LET'S GOOOOO
@tickledeggz
@tickledeggz 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you need that forth of fifth look at a card before you play into a board, I remeber whe dogmatika was first released I had loads of people loose to me because they didnt read fluerdelis properly and thought that the summon and negate where two different effects, or that I had to control the extra deck monster myself.

You get 40 mins for a match. When you reach 40 mins, the game ends at the current player's phase. Some have moved to 45 mins like mentioned in the video. So let's say this was that duel between Yugi and Pegasus. 1 and 1, best of 3. Under the new rules, Yugi gets to finish his attack. Phase ends, game ends. Let's say that the attack is not game, then what? The battle phase ends and the player with the most lp wins. This is why cards that improve your life or burn your opponent are now good in time, since those small bonuses could make the difference.

Heard this in another video about time rules. Keep the rules as they are currently, but the time limit changes from 45 minutes counting down, to a timer counting up, with the actual time of the round predetermined but hidden from players. At premier events, it ranges anywhere from 40 to 50 minutes. As soon as the timer reaches the hidden value, time gets called and you do end of phase. Obviously, it doesn't resolve everything, but it forces players to continue to play at a reasonable speed because they don't have a fixed goalpost.
@Dominator150395
@Dominator150395 2 жыл бұрын
The sad truth about the current time rules is that they're partly a consequence of how much shit you can do in a single turn. 2022 was the year I started going to tournaments (locals in my case), and a lot of people there complain (rightfully) about the current time rules, and say that the old ones were better. But when they told me what that time rule actually was (5 extra turns), my reaction was "no fucking way you could get away with that now, that's a whole duel right there". Keeping in mind these locals start at 18:00 and usually end between 21:00 and 22:00. I like playing Yugioh, but I also like getting home before midnight. Something like "you finish your current turn, then your opponent gets one more turn" would probably be ideal.

@@scuffleshadow in chess there is a button that switches between the two timers so if a player activated a card the turn player clicks it and after the card resolves it would be clicked again. for example I activate rageki break on my opponents turn and while i am choosing the card to discard and the target for the effect my timer is draining. After I select the card I want to target I click the timer for my opponent in which they could respond or let it resolve. If any card is being moved the player picking up the card would have their timer on to avoid stalling the opponent's timer.
@scuffleshadow
@scuffleshadow 2 жыл бұрын
@Bear-like-duck Bld i am aware with the system you speak of in chess. However, in chess there is always a move by white, then black then so on, but this isn't the case in yugioh. This would mean players would constantly have to press the button after every move they make, and the opponent instally pressing it back if they have no plays. More so you would come to the problem that a player might activate a card in an opponent's time, without flipping the switch and so on and such. What happens if i want to think on my opponents turn when they activate something, im not going to know instantly if i want to respond or not. The problem with yugioh, is that at no point ever in the game is it possible to discern who is playing, regardless of turn. And this is why i think it is only possible in online simulators like edopro and master duel, where thinking, responding can be measured to the nano second without bias. Moreso, on these platforms it gives the players options to toggle on and off chaining, which would be impossible to do irl as there is no policing a player saying they activated a card, and the other player saying they were toggled off, or didnt flip the switch, which would open another whole can of worms for judges.

The time rules comes from the era of not surrendering, encouraging players not to go for game when they open a good hand and take advantage of the opponent bricking. It's a way for Dark Magician to be better then Blue Eyes. Players did not want to see the game this way in the TCG and eventually OCG also stopped due to the Cyber Blader match winning lockdown deck. I personally like the no surrender time rule concept, but the style of play it creates is much more advanced and draining that it becomes difficult to go through a gauntlet in a tournament.

I think that Master Duel and other online simulator's using a Chess-Like timer that ticks down on the respective player's turn is the only way to fix it truthfully. There's complaints about the timer in MD buuuuut, most often the timer doesn't matter, games only take so long because it doesn't tick down during animations. In real Life you could increase the timer as well because it's harder to perform actions in real life, and people would have to manually press a button whenever they want to respond to an opponents action or "Take Priority" BUT i think overall it would be the best fix for several issue's and 15-20 minutes for both player's is probably enough. Player's can no longer "Psuedo-Slow Play.", this is referring to players purposefully stalling JUST long enough in their combos to waste as much time as possible while also not being caught for slow play. This can take extreme's as well, you can, and some player's have/do, build decks with long combo's so that you can waste as much time as possible going first. If successful, this can mean your opponent only get's 5 minutes or less for the MATCH to beat you, in less severe cases, this can give your opponent 5 minutes per game but none the less it's definitely not fair. Your opponent play's the game for 30-35 minutes and you only get 10-15? Why's that okay? If time for each player is separate, this means that player's can't slow play anymore, since it doesn't affect their opponent and only hurts them. Another big problem that this could fix is, player's AREN"T prepared when they enter tournaments. Often times people complete a meta deck day's before the tournament, haven't play tested enough or just simply aren't good enough. This results in a lot of Low Ladder matches ending in Time, this also means that less skilled player's who play decks with long combo's can take full advantage of time rules to climb higher in the tournament because they simply make the excuse that "They're thinking.". By giving each player their own timer, this incentivizes player's to actually learn the deck before hand and punishes people who go into tournaments unprepared(which should be the case.)with the best deck, and PLENTY of player's do. What I think would happen in this case is that a lot of player's who enter tournaments with the intent of climbing out of those lower brackets by exploiting time, would simply lose to player's who are playing lower tier decks that take a bit longer to win with, but their experience in the game and the lower time to execute combo's could help them take more wins. Ntm, actually splitting the time in half for both player's is far more fair than just having to deal with your opponents 15 minute combo and hope you can OTK them on your next turn. Then have to deal with another 15 minute combo in game 2. Going first is WAY to powerful in this game and time rules do help make it that way.

Things established this episode: Dogshit takes =\= imposter Someone’s point being defeated =\= imposter So we’re going to have to look for the person who 1. Doesn’t seem to understand his own argument 2. Doesn’t seem interested in making any points

Tbf, I do agree that lp costs are basically free outside of time rules. If end of turn applied, I’d 100% fire instant fusion, take my 1000 and otk with Tears. As is, I side it out going into time.

I feel like the time rules on a local level have done quite the opposite. We barely ever get to play game 3 at all because we all just play rogue garbage and with the plethora of handtraps on the game and side decking combined with the inconsistencies coming with average skill lvls and non meta decks alot of games are dragged out quite a bit. Sure not all but many and it makes me dislike competive yugioh not because im losing or winning in time but because no match is ever played out unless someone gets completely stomped or gives up turn 2 because of how hard they bricked. It's very unsatisfying having time being the match ender almost every match. Like if its a 1 1 and i or my opponent wins to time it doesn't mean the same person would have actually won. Winning or loosing to time isn't a real win. It has nothing to do with skill in the game. And then you have to think about what matches go to game 3 of course mostly the even ones where both players are on a similar level and where the game is the most fun to play. Getting that denied by time just doesn't feel good ever...

Coming from chess i just dont understand whats wrong with chess timers. I get some decks need more time to play but if you choose to bring a more complicated deck its your responsibility to play them quickly. If it about resources any phone can be a chess timer. for precedent master duel is already just yugioh with chess timers. If its a hassle to do for every game then just have it so that games that go on too long gets set up with a chess timer with 1-5 minutes each. I just hate the idea slowplaying being a legit way to win a game.

Tbh, the idea of chess clocks is growing on me. I wasn’t a fan at first because I thought they’d end up being more toxic than the rules we have now, but as I’ve thought about it I’ve kinda realized that even the worst implementation of it (just a turn timer, no swapping for responses) likely isn’t worse than what we already have.

Not gonna lie, after having a player ask to read NATURIA SUNFLOWER like six times at locals after talking about how he went to YCS Minneapolis, I am partial to Gage's point re: the general illiteracy of YGO players with new cards.
