I remember that someone wrote on the Yugioh Wiki Card's Tips for Larvae Moth "If you successfully Summon this card, your opponent might forfeit out of sheer incredulity." and it stuck around for over a year. Definitely one of the most important tips on that wiki.
@Vapeurss2 ай бұрын
If your opponent actually summons Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth via Petite Moth and Cocoon of evolution, you are required by law to concede the game. I can't think of a harder summoning condition in the game than keeping that thing on the field for 6 of YOUR TURNS. That's like turn 13 if you summoned it on turn 1. Even in the early 2000s that would be less plausible than getting out three Gate Guardian pieces and tributing them. Hell, I legitimately summoned Dark Sage once or twice back in the day.
@HopUpOutDaBed2 ай бұрын
@@Vapeurss they couldn't even do petit moth the decency of being able to switch to defense the turn you equip cocoon of evolution, meaning if you normal summon and equip it immediately it it's still stuck to fend for itself at 300ATK until the next turn where you can switch it to DEF. (and 2000 DEF is still decent in old yugioh). I remember summoning PUGM being an achievement in one of the video games, and it was actually harder than almost every other achievement in the game. The only way I could do it was to basically lock down the game and get to a position where my opponent had no cards and no way to attack, and then just wait around to draw what I needed. At that point I was actively going out of my way to not win the game too soon, making the entire combo pointless.

A lot of cards in “worst cards ever” discussions (particularly ones like Fine, An Unfortunate Report, Pot of Generosity, etc) give a distinct Duchamp’s “Fountain” vibe. They’re obviously bad, have no use case, and everyone involved in designing them knew that, but that’s kind of awesome. It’s like dialogue/an in joke between designers and players that other cards can’t provide. They’re also a hell of a lot more memorable than the worst 1-2 cards in every archetype released in the last 15 years.

If it had no restriction, it would be absurdly good. Placing any monster from deck into the backrow is, at this point in the game, basically the same as foolish burial, and potentially even better given that it can also trigger any effect that requires a card to go from field to grave. Definitely didn't need a restriction this harsh but it needed something.

@@Squidtoken I just kinda wish it required something like "While you control a Monster as a Continuous Spell Card" or even just the classic "At the Start of Main Phase 1" I don't think it'd be that good generically since unlike Foolish you'd need a 2 card combo to do anything with the Continuous Spell Monster, unless that Monster inherently has a Continous Spell effect, which just means the card is supporting what it's intending. Magical Labyrinth is so awful that I kinda adore it. It's an equip spell that can only be attached to Labyrinth Wall, has NO EFFECT when attached to Labyrinth Wall, and then you can tribute it and Labyrinth Wall to summon from the deck (and only the deck! Not the hand!) Wall Shadow. A 1600/3000 monster with no effect, but that can't be summoned by any other means. So... You tribute a monster to summon Labyrinth Wall, attach Magical Labyrinth to it, then tribute it to get a monster that you have to PRAY you didn't draw, and the upside is... A Labyrinth Wall that has a relatively low Attack stat, but that you're probably still going to keep in Defence mode anyway...

The other is Shadow Ghoul of the Labyrinth (since in the anime and manga, wall shadow was a fusion of labyrinth wall and shadow ghoul). Shadow Ghoul lets you discard it to add a "labyrinth wall" card to your hand, and while you control a labyrinth wall card, you can banish ghoul from your graveyard to destroy an opponent's battling monster.

Jam Breeding Machine is an anime import. It's use case was generating free stuff for a tribute summon. In the anime the summon restriction is just not there. The machine will only SD if marik summons a "Non-Jam" monster. Marik also has Revival Jam on side of the field. He is using staling card to get 3 tokens and summon slifer. Also yes, this means that JBM is an archetype card, at least in the anime. The card was simply overnerfed when ported to the IRL game. Revival Jam's anime eff is something like "If this card is sent to the GY because it was destroyed by battle or card effect, you can special summon it from your GY."
@BrandonSwinney-j2vАй бұрын
yeah, Revival Jam also revived immediately after it was destroyed, which made it pretty much a better marshmallon because you can still use card effects to get rid of marshmallon (I chose marshmallon in particular because of marshmallon glasses being an equivalent to jam defender). the funniest thing about this series of cards is that they're _so_ useless that ude judges gaslit themselves into believing they were more contrived and bizarre than they actually were, just so they could theoretically have _some_ utility. like if you look at the rulings at the time, they say that you can use the effect _before_ any of your monsters actually bite it, and then just choose to apply the effect whenever that turn ala last will but like. nope. they're literally just basic-ass ignition effects that move a card from the gy to somewhere else, but the card has to be _specifically_ a monster destroyed by battle _that turn._ that's it

Only decks off the top of my head that really benefit from this though are Reptilianne (if you drop all enemy monsters to 0 attack and have Serpent Suppression active) and Lyrilusc (get Assembled Nightingale on board, then Recital Starling, put the extra attack on Nightingale from Starling's effect, opponents turn use Nightingales effect to protect from battle destruction and life point damage, and then something to force battle target Recital).

The Water BES was level 5 and had an effect that could actually do something, albeit minor (switch an opponent's attack position monster to defense), and was like the third strongest level 5 Water monster at the time, so it could have had some utility in A Legendary Ocean decks of its time.

Fun Fact: Despite being a bricky and low-power archetype, Laval has a few Level 1 Pyro targets, giving the archetype some Snake-Eye synergy.

To this day I still wonder how you can normal summon boar soldier, even though it destroys itself on normal summon. According to the card, you can only summon this card with a flip summon. Edit: nvm, they errata'd it.
@Dw7freak2 ай бұрын
Here's an oldy. Solomon's Lawbook. A normal trap that makes you skip your next Standby Phase. As it released back in Pharaoh's Servant, the obvious synergy is to use it to dodge maintenance costs on cards like IO and Mirror Wall. There's only two problems with that. IO wasn't mandatory yet, all the other maintenance cost cards at the time kinda sucked, and Life Points don't matter except the last one. It also just does nothing if it's not being used for that reason. I guess nowadays you could use it with Mystical Refpanel to make the opponent's DPE fizzle, or for yourself to avoid Lava Golem damage. The card's trash.
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire2 ай бұрын
3:21 I mean that doesn’t sound BAD strictly… Especially the battle effect, since this card effectively can’t be destroyed by battle anyway, so crashing it to get that special summon could be worthwhile.

I had an idea long ago about a Archtype that revolved around the turn count ..... the higher the turn count the better your cards effects gets....... sadly this idea died went most games started ending by turn 3.

technically that DOES exist, because fortune lady's. but sadly its not the total turn count, its just the turns that have passed since the specific fortune lady card has been summoned

I have no idea why they gave Jam Breeding Machine, a card that was used in the anime/manga to get tribute fodder for gods, a summon restriction. Even worse, the anime/manga made the card go to the grave after you summoned anything instead, which was insanely good because the manga only had 5 total zones (there weren't any distinction between Monster Zones and Spells/Traps Zones), so you would _want_ to lose the card after a tribute summon for more space on board.
@colossaldonut51902 ай бұрын
The even more confusing part about Jam Breeding Machine is that it was used in the anime in a Slifer the Sky Dragon deck and didn't have the summoning restrictions there because, y'know, it was kinda made to summon a monster. Why does it have it now? When we knew the card was gonna suck balls anyway?
@marchmelloow2 ай бұрын
What's weirder is the card instead left the field if you summoned another monster, which was actually a _positive_ for the card. Especially in the manga, where there were only 5 total zones in the game (Marik's combo revolved around getting 5 specific cards, so he really needed JBM off the field for his combo to work).

The problem with Sweet Roommaid is that Foolish Return exists, and even that barely gets used when you have things like Called by the Grave, D.D. Crow and now Spell Card: Monster Reborn as alternatives that essentially either do the same thing faster or more effectively. But hey, collectible cards don't have to be useful as long as they have nice art, and this at least has that going for it.

So, The Grand Radience at 6:39 is a level 7 Light Dragon, making it a target for the Starry Knight cards, which can special this guy out upwards of 2-3 times in 1 of your opponent's main phases. It's just a small use case, barely noticeable. But one that I leveraged over my friend group for about 2 months.

Flock Together: Based on the text, it does count cards on both sides of the field. It's not as outrageous, but still requires a goodly bit of setup. Maybe a tech piece for Crystal Beasts.

For the bit on Sweet Roommaid, there are two other cases of this happening that piss me off. Stars Align Across the Milky Way, a Ritual support Trap card with Shinobird art and Shinobird relevant effects, the grave effect in particular being able to ritual summon during your opponent's turn and spin a bunch of their cards... but it was not archetypal. And this card was iirc released randomly on its own between the first wave of Shinobirds and the AGOV stuff, the latter of which has the field spell which searches this card explicitly. CLEARLY this was supposed to be an archetype card all along and they just... named it wrong as a prank? Apply everything I said above to Million-Century Ice Prison but for Icejades, and without the new wave of support that searches it. Which also makes me very nervous Konami will center whatever the next Icejade cards are around this turnskip effect instead of printing good cards, but what else can we expect at this point?
@drowsyCoffee2 ай бұрын
For me, i think the biggest example is Dark Spirit Art Greed. Like, at base, having essentially Allure of Darkness, except as a Trap, and requiring the Dark Monster to be on field to work is already an ass card that would be forever doomed to exist only within limited aaa formats like Prog n shit. But then they added "oh yeah btw your opponent can *reveal* (not even fucking discard) a spell card to negate the effect". Why. Like, even if it were a discard it would be the world's middest Spiritual Art Aoi ever, given lack of hand knowledge and optional nature. But a fuckign reveal??? Literally what is the point, it isnt like you'd be able to achieve anything impressive after jumping through that massive hoop/downside
@driftwisp27972 ай бұрын
"Tribute a mon to draw two cards" at fast speed is good because you can use it to get rid of a mon that was about to die anyway and just draw two for free. It's just that "Trap card that draws two cards" isn't nearly as playable now as it was ten years ago.

The original Earthbound Immortals are all ass, but as far as I’m concerned Earthbound Immortal Cusillu takes the cake for “worst card ever”. It can't be targeted for attacks, but its effect only activates when it would be destroyed by battle, so you're supposed to, what, run into an opponent's monster with more than 2800 attack??? And to require a tribute for that effect just makes this thing beyond worthless
@Felnal2 ай бұрын
What makes it even more baffling is that Cusillu's effect does technically result in more "damage" if the opponent had more than 5600 LP since it halves their LP, so you can see some reasoning behind it. The thing is that it still takes 3 attacks from Cusillu will end the game, regardless of whether its effect gets used.

I think Holding Arms is one of the most underrated monster cards ever printed. It basically acts at the same spell speed as an equipped spell and it can shut down an opponent's omni negate like Baronne/ect. I've used this card in my stall deck with Exodia Necross stall deck focused on Obliterate trap and when you have a full back row of traps and floodgates it can't be set as back row by sinful spoils Snake Eye and can't be destroyed by Yubel and when Gravity Bind is active Yubel can't even reactivate and I won locals 2 times with a Jank pile where my only out was back row and DPE fusion destiny even without Verte being legal. Sadly loses to shifter unless they blow up back row Waking the Dragon and I stop special summons with Last Warrior from another planet...

Golgoil basically is a monster, that revives one monster from GY or banishment, when it or another illusion or machine battles. Also when itself gets banished by an opponents card, it comes back. Also there is a sinful spoils card, that summons level 5 or higher illusions from deck. So this is a different and maybe better version of call of the haunted. Not bad.
@olvynchuru16632 ай бұрын
There is actually an easy way to summon Golgoil: Sinful Spoils Subdual can Special Summon it from the deck. And while Golgoil is certainly not an amazing card, it isn't NEARLY as bad as some of the other cards mentioned here. Its ability to Monster Reborn something every turn is pretty cool. One potential use for Ursarctic Megabilis is that it's one of the few level 8 tuners in the game. So you could use it to summon Bishbaalkin. Maybe it's not the best way to summon Bishbaalkin, but that is a use for it. Regarding B.E.S. monsters, the level 9 one (B.E.S. Blaster Cannon Core) is pretty good in a rank 9 deck. Machina Metalcruncher is a 1-card rank 9 when going second if you Normal Summon it and add B.E.S. Blaster Cannon Core to your hand.

Hatsugai because I thought it was going to be Gift Card #7-9 for Nurse Burn, but your opponent can choose not to gain LP, thus making it completely worthless in that regard, but even if they did, it gives you one of their cards so there is no incentive. They can get burned for 3K and lose one of their cards to you, possibly picking up one of their handtraps or board breakers in the process, or they can just say no. Big balls on Konami also making this card a UR in Master Duel just to add insult to injury (no pun intended)
