One that I wish I had submitted involves the voice actor for Jaden from GX. For years he was easily the least invested of any main voice actors. Rumors swirled that he was burned by the negative response to the GX dub. Through duel links he was slowly worked back into the fold by voicing the various Jaden's, but he was then set to voice a live duel between himself and Aster Phoenix during the time pote released to promote the new neos cards. There was a concerted effort by yugioh fans on Reddit who were attending the WCQ to show him support and that he was beloved in the community. Watching replays of the duel are genuinely heartwarming as he gets to see first hand people unabashedly love his performance and get so into the event. Not one that's mentioned often but it warms my heart

I like GX and Jaden even though I didn’t want to. It’s just too funny and they put effort into the spirit of the dub. There’s references and shitpost like writing all over it and it’s beautiful. There are things about it I don’t like, and I miss the classic Geek Squad, but GX isn’t nearly as bad as people used to say. It’s a fun show and Jaden is a good guy with a cool voice.

A good moment coming from a bad one: YCS San Bernardino 2009 had an incredible amount of theft. Everything not nailed down was getting swiped. A woman came on the PA begging people to find her 9-year old son's deck, a starter deck with small modifications that had been stolen. The deck couldn't be found, so people got together and built the kid a new better deck out of their collections.

That "We can break this" is hilariously relatable since the majority of rogue discords I'm in don't even get mad that we use normal decks, hell half of the deck building tips I get aren't from actual archtype discords but from random rogue discords that has literal gods who has knowledge of all the niche combos and symergies
@skeletonwar44453 ай бұрын
Yeah I love trying to optimize niche strategies. Friend of mine wanted to play World Legacy since he liked the story of it, so we got to optimizing it and it turned into Spright World Legacy eventually (Lee is a 2, Crowned is a 2, Keyblade Lib is a really strong Link-2) with one of the funniest plays being Gigantic Spright summon Eidos the Underworld Squire to get an extra tribute summon to bring out World Chalice which can either stay on the endboard or be linked off to summon two more 2s from deck.

To be honest, I used to think he wasn't anything special, like, an old guy that plays stun? What's so wholesome about it? Since Twitter is now banned in Brazil, I would have to write my achievement here: When I got added to Hasher Brown's crew. To keep it simple, I just enjoy helping when it's possible, especially during tournaments where I would edit the tables' numbers so people can find them more easily, as well as taking notes on Wins/Losses and other side notes - I had a lot of them. I started doing that for the fun of it, sometimes multitasking between it and actually playing said tournaments, and there was a moment where Hasher called me in DMs to help him as a proper Moderator. I got promoted from Chatter to Moderator in the next day, my first work was in a big content creator tournament and I've been helping him "professionally" ever since - even though I lost those privileges due to my account being invaded once, and the hacker showing up again to nearly nuke the entire server. In the next day I made sure that French guy would be terminated for good - not being xenophobic, I can see where they accessed my Discord from. I still judge myself as the culprit and felt like I would never be accepted ever again, but I'm glad to be wrong and still be part of our boner lord's community.

My own personal story was back in my teenage years. I started playing locally at a card shop and everyone there was pretty welcoming. There were some oddballs but it never felt like I was uncomfortable or unwelcome. What really stuck with me though was that there was a man who must've been in his 60s playing in the Yugioh bracket as well. Whether it was fate (or some seeding idk) I usually got to play him and he would always ask how I was. I distinctly remember one weekend near Thanksgiving he gave out goodie bags to the entire store. And looking back now he was piloting an unorthodox burn deck really well - we were in the thick of the XYZ era and Dragon Rulers and he was still playing cards like Marshmallon and Secret Barrel and could still win games. Shout outs to that guy, hope he is doing well.

My GF had come with me to this locals and was taken aback at how about 7 of us all swarmed this one table giving him cards out of our binders and tweaking his ratios. So I have two OTS nearby-ish but one is (For me) 2 hours by train then a 15 min bus ride while the other is an hour or so by train. But over the years there was one more Locals scene nearby me that just never quite hit enough consistently for OTS status, the TO retired with Covid and well, that's it. Except that wasn't it. A local player started renting the same room, bringing prize support and we helped him to organize and run the tournaments. It was stressful for him but we were all thankful just to have somewhere local to play, but then he had to stop for personal reason so that's the end of it. Except no, another guy started running tournaments back in August. The locals venue is legit 15 min by train and a 5 min walk from my town so it's close, he offers good prize support, runs the ship well and plays too. We've got a fair crowd coming down every time it's on and I hope it sticks around. Point is, come hell or high water, rain or shine, armageddon itself. When I first got back into Yugioh I was 18, I bought a Blaze of Destruction structure deck (this was in like 2012, so it was old and bad even by those standards) and I was STALWART about playing Pyro Burn as a dedicated strategy. Any player could have walked up to me and told me the deck is shit and doesn't work in the current game and ended any budding interest I may have had at the time in the game, but instead, everyone understood the deck I wanted to play, and gave me tips on how to build it more effectively. They told me to drop some of the worse cards, play more copies of the good ones, one guy even gave me a playset of Kickfires because they worked in the deck but didn't come in the structure. I would go 0-4 every weekend, but there was this one guy who had a Mokey Mokey deck who would sit and duel me during my by rounds or after the tournament was over and we had a blast.

Everyone in my travel group who came with me all immediately dropped out and spent the rest of the day with me to make sure I wasn't alone. My family told me to stay with my friends for the weekend and not to rush coming home. All I wanted to do to distract myself from the pain was sort cards and build decks. I built this really whacky stupid deck that for some reason I was just absolutely dead set on and took it to one of the win a mat side events the next day. I have that mat framed and hung up on my wall as a reminder of my mom and how Yu-Gi-Oh helped me at my absolute lowest point.

Before Covid my OTS was filled with toxic and unfun players but since then they have made it a place where any player of any caliber can play and have fun and learn.

It feels like the original goal and lessons of Yu-gi-oh! have rung through the people who truly love the game and I don’t think we could ask for anything more then that

Met some covid friends whom I still talk to to this day in the Crush Cards discord and couldn’t be happier that they’re a part of my life even when some are a full country away ❤

I met my best bud of 9 years now because of yugioh, was working in a factory and he came up to me and asked to learn to play as he heard I was a nerd, handed him a banish dinosaur structure deck and I just rebuilt his battlin boxer deck and modernized as a symbol of being a good friend to me, that’s why I still play off and on, that’s why I love yugioh

One of my favorite stories was when I went to locals and round one played a guy with an illegal deck. After I went through the deck with him to pull out the illegal cards 5 people came over to give him cards that were legitimately good for his deck and allowed him to continue the tournament.

So my buddies on my PlayStation play a lot of different card games. But let me tell you, we love watching each other play yugioh and seeing how the duelist react and sometimes comment over each others duels. It is a lot of fun

I transitioned 2018 after coming out of and being shoved back in the closet around 2014, yet I have been playing Yu-Gi-Oh since I was six around 2003. My favorite deck is always Destiny Hero with a mix of chaos.

5:09 “Sir, you have a bicuspid valve where you should have a tricuspid valve. We can do surgery but there’s a decent chance you will die.” Duelists: Don’t bother. I activate the Magic card “CHANGE OF HEART!!!”

So when I got into the game proper I sucked, as all new players do. But the local group walked me through how to upgrade my 3x ice barrier structure deck (Eventually moved onto a 3 of albaz through much recommendation). Somehow through all this I became ingrained enough that I started hosting separate locals games on a different day to regular locals for new and mid range players to play. We mostly focused on deck testing and jank idea decks we had come up with, it was great and attracted enough attention that the store even gave me access to the prize cards and stuff to issue out to players. Sadly after not too long the store that hosted us closed and while there were attempts to relocate our games to another store, my group of players just couldnt take root anywhere else and the group fell apart. Haven't heard from then since really, been about 2+ years now. They were honest some of the coolest people and most welcoming people I know, and I honestly hope they're doing well still.

Shout out to my LGS being my one way to interact with people back when I was dealing with extreme depression and loneliness. It would have been a lot harder without them

I also want to shout out all those vendors and players that see forgotten decks/mats and keep them safe until the owner returns.

tbh im pretty much a MD player only because theres no "locals" or anything yugioh related near where I live (hell, i dont even own cards because theres mostly no point) so I've never felt like a part of the community and its kinda hard to make friends in a game without a chat, this was a nice watch though and the stories here are really heartwarming

Recently, my deck got stolen at a regional but the squad and my locals helped me rebuild the deck. Kinda hit different because I never had a group or community in my life until that point.
