Love to see Carol train dogs. It is so encouraging that she mentioned that any dog can learn. So many online trainers make videos with young dogs or their already trained dogs. I have rescues. They are behind the 8 ball in training when I start and really don’t need to be reminded that they missed their puppy training years. I am always looking for new ways for them to learn and have fun. Great job Carol.

I play the find it game with my dog all the time, but instead of the toy I used me lol and I think it’s helped bring more value to me toward my dog! He loves in when I tell him to wait by a door or something and then I close the door and I go hide, and he waits for my sister to open the door and tell him “ go find Melanie”

My first GSD Max used to LOVE Playing hide the ball...Id tell him to go hide and he'd go in the other room and sit while I hid his ball.....Id say ''OK. Come find it'' and he'd come running in,....,he'd always look in the last place first...and would remember the order in sequence. Carol is a GREAT trainer!! I love watching her train. Thanks McCann Training, for putting out these free videos...Youre really helping alot of people and dogs who cant afford a trainer!! Much appreciated!!

My English Cocker LOVES to play hide and seek....it is her favorite game. When she is bored she will rehearse her favourite hiding places by taking the toy she is playing with and hiding it herself in the shoe or on the shelf or bathtub and "finding" it herself...over and over. Over the years, it has become quite sophisticated....if duplicate toys are present she only ever chooses the one that we are playing the game with and I try to find places to hide the toy that require two steps to complete....I hide the toy in a hide-away cover....like the little squirrel hidden in the log and then hide the log, or put it someplace that she has to find the toy by jumping up onto something and retrieving it from beneath a blanket or out of a box. It is absolutely her favourite in the house game and saves my sanity during the long cold winter months.

We play “Easter Basket” every morning with our Mini Aussie. She gets her bkfst meal in a Kong-like ball. She waits in the kitchen while we hide the ball somewhere in the house. When she finds it, she rolls it around & the kibble occasionally falls out. We’re retired, so we spend a lot of time playing games with her.

My Lady thank you so much for these joys... my dog just loves them...we have been overtraining on obedience and I recognized a mistake...and needed to retrain myself that training should be fun...the hide and seek is really exciting...started really easy in room like you...now 3 bedrooms and hole house is a seek and find...she is a labrador and just this alone has far exceeded any field exercises we have done...and never seen my pretty girl respond and enjoy anything more...awesome instructions, thank you for helping us have fun.

Instructor Carol here. That’s awesome. Yes - if we are fun we build great relationships with our dogs. Then things come so much easier. And I look to train obedience the same way. My older dogs would rather heel at my side then chase a squirrel. Because they are all behaviours. Whether it’s a fun go find it or heeling or a stay.

This was the most useful dog game video I've seen. My dog is an anxious rescue who doesn't play at all and doesn't care about toys whatsoever. For once someone gave some suggestions on ways to get difficult dogs to interact. Thank you so much! The treat thing is a challenge. My dog won't take kibble at all as a treat...and she wont eat plain kibble period. So I have to mix in wet food and bits of chicken breast for her meals...sigh...which makes it impossible to try to use her meal as play time reward. Any ideas? As I said...she's not toy motivated at all.

The main issue I’ve had trying to train my 2 dogs….they are not food driven at all and won’t eat any training treats…I’d literally have to cook a steak and cut it up…. So how do I reward? Same problem with mine
@ccitnavrae4 жыл бұрын
Go back to basics. My dog pulled on its chain. I told it to sit as soon as i feel pulling. I got the desired result in one session. Treat it with something ie toy or treat when it do not snap and a firm NO and sit command and a jank on the choke chain on NO might work when it does snap when it snap - no treat - Follow up with a heel and sit with praise if done correctly (YES Good dog) and a treat It will soon get the idea NO means no praise and no treat YES means all of that praise and treat Hope it will work - let me know At first have it on a chain And teach it the basic commands Heel Sit Down (lay down) Stand Wait amd Stay Some comment on stay and wait Stay teach stay and wait on seperate occasions since both involve the dog stay at one place bit your dog may get confusrd so Stay - let tje dog stay and return back to it Wait - let the dog wait until you instruct it to come to you or eat its food
@ccitnavrae4 жыл бұрын
If you look at agility contests the trainers use yhe wait command before they go and place themselves at a spot and then the dog gets its instructions to move

@webmasterprofiled76114 жыл бұрын
You need to condition your dog to accept food without snapping. Resource guarding or grabbing can become a real problem later. Try to offer a treat and withhold it with a simple “ No” till her gently takes it from you ands to that with a very happy Yes or other marker and more treats - enough reps of this should get results

I have a 10 week old Golden. In 2 days he’s picked up on ‘sit’ and ‘stay’. Not perfect, but it’s kind of amazing. And yet treats didn’t play a role. I use treats to get him to get used to the cage, but that’s it. These dogs that have been trained with lots of treats remind me or a crackhead following their dealer wanting just one more hit.
