My 5-month old Border Collie pups' favorite treats are: For all-food rewards: 1)Cut-up steak or chicken 2) Cheese or Purina Puppy starting Treats 3) Peanut Butter (served from a soon or from a squeeze bottle). 4) Fruits and veggies (i dice them up, mix and freeze to save for future training) 5) kibble. Generally, i trick train with kibble or veggies, unless it is a hard trick, then i use cheese. After i had the foundation of recall which i did in a low-distractions environment, i use treats or cheese. However, i now usually make a game of recall and have a game of fetch or tug, which is probably her favorite motivator. For nail-trimming or tricks that i cant keep going to my pocket fro treats, i use peanut butter. Favorite motivator: 1- tug rope, in some cases might be substitutes by steak. she is very distracted by anything that moves, so she sometimes wont see the toy if she is staring at a deer! In those cases i lure her with steak 2- Steak 3- Peanut butter, cheese, treats 4- My excited voice 5-Veggies, Fruits, Kibble P.S I find your videos very helpful, i trained my pooch all with the knowledge you all gave me . Now she is perfect, responds to recall unfailingly ...almost, except once with a flock of deer in our backyard, however i was able to make her be right,anyway with a long line i attach to her at all times. She hasnt been using her crate much for a while, and is very well behaved in the house. i am preparing for the teenage phase. Many thanks!

I have 2 rescue dogs and they will work for any food. They get just as excited for a piece of banana as they do for a piece of chicken. They are not picky eaters at all. They both were in situations where they had to find food to survive and I wonder if that has something to do with their lack of "pickiness". They were in a situation where any food they could find was eaten to survive and I wonder if that mentality doesn't carry over to treats in general because they think food might not always be available. Not sure if that made any sense.

11 week Golden Male, favorite is any food. least favorite but works sometimes is his favorite toy (short pull rope). Favorite activity sleeping followed by chasing our other dog (pomeranian) and the cat. reliably knows drop it, leave it, and sit. Working on come, not biting and potty training. He is my 4th golden, first male dog and the most challenging dog to train that I have ever had. My first 3 female Goldens were potty trained in 2 weeks and puppy biting was easily corrected with a stern ouch vocalization. This rock head is going to take some patients.

@@wendymoran6759 Ollie is now 10 months old and 80 lbs. He is in his teenage phase and sometimes does not come when called off leash, so I use the go get method. ie if he does not come when called I go an get him every time, it seems to be working. I live on a golf course so I walk him every night on the course and I let him run and run and we play fetch until he is tired, (a tired dog is a good dog). He is well trained, knows come, sit, stays heel, bed, leave it , drop it, roll over, hush and settle. His favorite game is tug and we play alot of that, we also play hide and seek (I hide and he finds me) and find the treat (I hide 5 treats and he finds them). We are working on learning different objects like phone, tv remove, shoe, toy, tool etc... It is all about working his brain and keeping him stimulated... Oh, most importantly, we are always working on manners, he must sit before being fed (I will not put his food bowl down until he sits), he will not go out a door before me, (if he does we do it again) he will not jump on me, he will not bark or jump on people at the front door... etc. So I think he is doing great, if you are worried about agression work on manners and loose leash walking, and make sure he understands that all good things come through you.

I am just starting to train my 5 month old dalmatian, so I don't have 5 treats yet. But, I can say her favorites right now are chicken flavored training treats, squeaky toy and then kibble. I am going to try some of your other suggestions and see what happens.

Every dog is different and the high value reward system backfired on me for a bit. It helped develop a resource guarding instinct and he would misbehave just to be corrected to get a treat. He would do the action as jump on the counter and then immediately go to a spot and sit waiting for a treat. I broke him of the resource guarding by controlling all resources and they only come from me. Meaning I had to hand feed him and he only was given the resource when calm.
When is the next train staion live? Lowkey found you guys a couple weeks ago and been waiting since watching lots of videos and got a few questions. Getting a puppy in September super excited also congrats on 1M 🍻🎉

My puppy can be pretty picky with the treats but chicken is definitely his favourite. Cheese, scrambled eggs, ham, steak etc go down equally well but I’m happier to give him chicken more regularly to train. You just need to have a little waterproof pocket to keep it in.

Any tips specifically for headstrong breeds? I got a dachshund puppy recently and I've heard they are very stubborn and can be harder to train. I'm starting early and he has learned his name and sit but I do notice that when he is distracted or just doesn't want to listen, I get completely ignored even though he has shown he understands the commands. Any tips to combat that independence and headstrong attitude?

My puppy is 3 months old and I've had her home for 1 week now. She has been a superstar about going to bathroom outside and telling me when she needs to go. However, after she has done her business, she goes absolutely crazy. She will run around in circles and bolt off in any direction while pulling the leash. Any suggestions on how I can fix this behavior? Should I use a high value treat when she is done and just focus on training here? Thank you so much!

So my dog is ironically allergic to all animal protein (we have tried them all), is there any high value reward you could suggest that doesn’t include meat/animal protein (cheese seems okay but just can’t have too much)? Anything I’ve tried just doesn’t quite cut it for higher distractions in environments where I can’t necessarily avoid them

Have you seen those videos where they'll have dogs try different foods to see their reactions? You might have to try that with things like bananas, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, etc. Should be pretty obvious what your dog likes and doesn't like.

If you take cooked chicken or beef with you when you go out for a few hours of training then how do you keep the food from going bad?
@resqk9dog222 жыл бұрын
It's not going to go bad in a few hours. When you cook up a batch of meaty, high value treats to use over several trainings, you can store them in the freezer in small baggies or containers with enough for a training session, so you can grab them as you head out for a training session.
