Bob Mintzer; your music is a 'special gift' to those of us who enjoy excellence. I can't wait to pump these musical pieces through my new system. Please keep the harmony growing and the overall sounds and chords 'flowing'..

Great Band. Why hasn't anyone mentioned how fucking crispy clean the trombone player's language is? Who is he? He's a beast.

This chart... It could only be appropriately described as "The Shit". It's like taking a sonic journey to a skanky-ass, classy-as-all-hell, modern swing Nirvana. 10/10. And I'll give special recognition to Dave Taylor, the great raging bass-boner of our time as far as I'm concerned. I love how this chart showcases him through interplay between him and the rest of the band.

great sax solo. Reminds me a little of Eddie Cleanhead Vinson. Very sophisticated too. Who is the sax player?

Does Mintzer really need to hire someone with the sole purpose of making him sound better? I always thought Mintzer had an incredible sound and great individualistic style.

Tenor 2 yawns during Alto 2's solo at about 4:40. Haha. Still a good solo and an excellent band, though.

@scione I appreciate that these guys are monster players, and that they can play rings around me and all but a couple hundred guys in the States. The point isn't "can they play well, or better than me," but rather, what things could you do to appeal a wider audience that doesn't represent a "sellout?" Most people experience music with their ears and eyes, and pretending this isn't how people you'd like to reach experience it is naive; it's called "stage presence," and theirs is lousy.

I'm going to have to agree with DrewDawg, I don't know why Bob Mintzer picked this guy, maybe just to make him look better perhaps.....

Excellent musicians and ensemble, playing a chart that does interesting things for 3 minutes, and the nothing else for 5-1/2 minutes. This is the sort of self-indulgence that might fill out a set with only 5-6 tunes, but lulls me to sleep. Look at the stage, it looks like a bunch of strangers waiting at the gate to board their plane to Miami, this is the sort of "we're too cool to put much effort into the visuals" that makes even really good groups like this appear amateur.
