McGuffey Fourth Reader Step by Step

Here is the third in a series of going over the McGuffey's readers lesson by lesson; this time it is the revised fourth reader. I am creating this for moms who are often times too busy to pre-read the lessons, or who want to become more familiar with the lessons in order to better help their children. I am hoping each installment will include three or more lessons in the different books (I am only covering the original second reader and the 4th and 5th revised readers).

It's so funny, I was listening to this while I was cleaning my kitchen and I was kind of feeling bad not giving it my full attention (but I have a lot to get done this morning!). Then at the end you mentioned listening to it while doing dishes. I guess we are just all that busy. 😆 My preschooler loves the way the McGuffey Readers look. She can't read yet, but since she thinks the covers are pretty, she constantly pretends to read them or uses them in her imaginary play. We used them last year, but I haven't got around to incorporating them this year. She had them out the other day and I kept thinking I need to start using them again. So your video is very timely. Thank you for doing these videos. They are so helpful!

Thank you for this. I've started using the fifth eclectic revised reader, so I can't wait for you to get to that book. I'm going on your past videos of how to use the books, but I've found this one very helpful. You answered my question of what to do with the introduction.😅 But my daughter and I have found it quite interesting. We have not used the books before this year except for an occasional reading, but I've had them for several years. I was lost on the 'how to'. I think a part of the problem was thinking that it wasn't enough. But, even then I still struggled with finding a system we could follow while working through the lessons.

Loved this! Sometimes I get stuck with Mcguffies, do you have any advice for dictation? I always struggle with this

It depends on the ages, but at first just a word or two, then working up into a sentence, adding one sentence after another until the child can do an entire paragraph.
