McKees Rocks Part 2 - Island Ave.

Part two of a three part series highlighting roads and bridges in McKees Rocks, PA.

and consists primarily of films photographed by Raleigh D'Adamo and Russ Jackson during the late 1950s, with additional footage by Charles Dengler, Art Ellis, and Richard Kehm.

That was a very exciting 21 minutes . I am 59 and remember a good amount of Mckees Rocks . I lived in West Park right in the middle of Town on Broadway . There are so many memories seeing this video . I cannot express how happy I feel watching your Videos . Thank You !

I like how I could go to work from Brighton heights to Robinson and take 5 different routes and still get to the same place. All paths were through the rocks and surrounding areas

At 16:00 the Red Head Gas Station was showing gas for 24.9. In 1969 or '70 there was a "Gas War" and I got gas there for my Corvair fro 18.9 . I was unhappy because I had heard it was even lower the day before.

Thank you for your videos. I love how you show the old photos and videos, then show how it is today. You are the premier Historian of Pittsburgh! I was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area; (North Side, and West Deer.) then moved by myself to NC when I was 18. (1971). I miss Pittsburgh more than most can understand. I would love to see you do more videos of North Side. Marshall Ave. Sorrell Street. Oliver High School. East Street. West Deer. New Kensington.

Great vid...as usual...I was a junior in High School when that gas tanker hit the PAT bus. I remember that the tanker was going around the bend at approximately 55 m.p.h. and couldn't make the bend running head on into the bus!!

Oh, man - I completely forgot about the Musmanno house! Makes me want to go back and do it again. And yes, now that you mention it, I should have included the Davis School on the McCoy Rd. section. Of course, I didn't include Mother of Sorrows either. My main thing there was wanting to show those pictures of McCoy Rd. that would never get included anywhere else. I didn't include Sts. Cyril and Methodius either. Maybe a "Mckees Rocks Churches and Schools" vid?

Hi Tim. Grew up there. What street was Isley 's on? That same street traveling toward Coraoplolis have a White Castle and a Jenny Lee Bakery. I can not remember the name. Traveled that road into Pittsburgh over the bridge to downtown. It's a long time ago and I can't remembered

Hi! The Isaly's store and the White Castle was on Chartiers Ave. down by the Roxian Theater. The may have been a Jenny Lee there as well but the main Jenny Lee (where the bakery was) was up on Island Ave closer to the McKees Rocks Bridge.

Western State Penitentiary was right across the river from McKees Rocks.
