McKenna is a odd choice. I feel they're going with a younger coach because they feel he won't make demands on picking transfer targets he wants. It's a big gamble. It's either genius or comically clueless. Time will tell. But since is Boehly I'm predicting it will be a massive failure.

Some crazy comments about Mckenna not being good enough. Took a mid table L1 side to prem in two seasons, lost 10 games in 2 seasons got nearly 200 points in 2 seasons. Lost 1 game at home last season with what was almost same squad from league 1. In a championship that had at least 5 parachute payment sides inc Leicester, leeds, and Southampton. This was all on minimal spending. Omari Hutchinson came to ipswich raw and in one season is being priced around 20 to 25m. Wes Burns we got from Fleetwood for 75k is now a prem player and Welsh international. Lief Davis couldn't get a game at Leeds and is now being talked about for England and valued at 20m +. I could go on. Don't wanna lose him but hearing ppl say he's a laughable choice baffles me

League 1 and Championship manager. This is the guy who is replacing an experienced PL manager who finally managed to get the squad and team working together. Also, Sam Hutchinson will be sold at Chelsea. He is being bought in to develop youth so we can sell on as profit to cover our p&s.

It doesn’t make sense to include Tuchel, Lampard, or even Potter, when talking about mistakes that the board have made in regard to managers. Lampard was never meant to be a permanent appointment and Tuchel was already here. More importantly, Poch is the only manager that has been chosen by the board thus far. Our current board members were brought in after Potter was appointed.

one of the reasons I don't want Mckenna is that managers from the uk haven't had great success in terms of winning the prem. Apart from Ferguson, Wilkinson was the last uk manager to win in the top flight. Also what respect will the players have for him as he hasn't won anything, especially when things start going wrong.

I love Terry but he contradicts himself all the time about United. He talks about RDZ and Brighton with regard to defensive weakness "RDZ should adapt, play more defensively but that is not what he does...". Wasn't he killing ETH for the same mentality? He spoke about Arsenal and Holden ruining their defensive structure last season, weren't United forced to play 20+ variations of their defence this season? Idk I just don't understand how concessions are made for people who don't have the job and yet those same ones are not afforded to those in the job.

The issue with ten hag is he has no style of play and it looks chaotic and results gained are in spite of him, whilst de zerbi has way of playing that needs tweeking at times.

@@DaveElcock I get that to a certain extent but I would counter that with Brighton's squad may be of "lesser quality" to some but they were also brought to the club with a RDZ style of play in mind. Despite ETH bringing in a lot of players - for multiple reasons United's squad feels way less cohesive making a style of play difficult. For example if RDZ does take over he will have to oversee a radical squad change as his first task because I don't think this current United squad could play like Brighton.

After seeing the rise of Arteta, Xavi and Alonso in recent years, I do not understand people’s desire to immediately write a manager off because they are new to management. McKenna has showed a lot of promise with his Ipswich side. Is his name not exotic enough to be given the benefit of the doubt? I have no idea how it will turn out - I’m praying that it works - but I’ve seen enough from the aforementioned young managers to say that it could be a better signing than people expect.

For every Arteta, xavi, Alonso there is a lampard, Rooney, Gerrard who have failed as managers at the highest level. There is a risk involved, and if he fails that will be another lost season and the risk of disgruntled players who may leave. Why should a club the size of Chelsea take the risk, they've already done that with Potter.

Arteta was a former Arsenal player and worked under Pep, that's why he was chosen. You also failed to mention he was on the shortlist before we brought Emery in. It wasn't just out of the blue. Xabi Alonso is at a smaller club in the Bundesliga and Xavi managed Al Sadd before Barcelona, and again is a former player and Barcelona legend. Are you really trying to compare a rookie manager with no previous links to Chelsea with these former players? People need to think before posting comments.

McKenna will stay at Ipswich for a ton of reasons. 1. He's not stupid. 2. He's having fun 3. He has the potential to build a legendary legacy at Ipswich, over the next 1-3 seasons. 4. Less stress 5. Less media intrusion 6. Settled, confident playing squad 7. he's not stupid. There will be other reasons Ive not thought of, but these are the main ones.

These clubs are making a mistake looking at novice coaches. The main ingredient for a big club should be 'winning at all cost ' mentality and track record. No room for experiments otherwise you end up with a potter, Gerald, , Poch, solstier etc I would be at least looking at emery, Rogers, inzaghi etc managers who have at some form of record. Manager who can carry the weight of expectation at a big club

I’m quite happy with McKenna- my worry is about the (online) chelsea fanbase accepting him. The younger fanbase only has memories of chelsea as a club that appoints the alpha dog manager in the market - that a) wasn’t always the case and b) is not generally what the European powerhouse clubs do. Look at Barca’s managers recently: xavi, Enrique, even pep. Look at Bayern. Look at Milan. They all generally hire the young up and coming guy not the established guy. My worry is that if McKenna doesn’t start winning a lot very quickly, the fanbase is liable to be calling for his head within months.

Don’s idea of management and team dynamics is football manager levels of insight. Actual players are people. People with different personalities, resilience, work ethic, leadership, personality attributes that can either work well with others or not - or work well with certain individuals and not others. Just because a player has certain physical and technical attributes doesn’t mean he will fit in seamlessly with a manager who favours those physical attributes. Why? Because maybe their personalities clash. Maybe the player is fantastic on the ball - when he’s up for it but is too often not playing with the intensity the manager wants and needs. Why do players like Gallagher keep getting picked over more technical players? It isn’t because the chelsea managers don’t like technicians. It’s because his effort and work rate is unrivalled and unquestioned. Managers like that. Maybe because when the manager asks him to do something he does it and doesn’t need persuading. Why did Jordan Henderson kept getting in every team both club and national for years and years? Because he did what was needed and did it well.

Why we fired Poch for a championship manager when he steadied the ship of a brand new squad and got us to 6th...I will never know, the obvious reason is because he probably wanted to keep Gallagher and some stability going into next season. Arteta was backed after finishing 8th, as Arsenal finally moved on from their Invincibles standards, and have become a problem to City a few seasons later. United fans are starting to let go of their Fergie standards so the club can move on and are begging for a reset. But us Chelsea fans, for some reason, don't like to connect our standards under roman with his cheque book. The disrespect Poch got this season, after progressing from last season, is just embarrassing. The fans at the ground I barely heard poch out, but, these online plastic armchair football managers think we are still operating under Roman. Top 4 and a trophy was our standards under Roman. The quicker we move on from that and give managers like Poch or Potter to really build, the quicker we can avoid the Arsenal/Man Utd delusional limbo they were in post Invincibles and post fergie. We need new standards, and sacking 3 managers in 2 seasons with no trophies to show for it is banter club standards.

They spent 2 months looking for a suitable candidate, found Poch to be the best fit, and a season later after he progressed us up the table, he leaves...now the same directors are iin search of a new manager. One thing that gives me pause around the whole United managerial position is that INEOS or club higher ups have let a lot of noise be generated from media etc, all season long. It just feels like INEOS are either too cautious or not sure of themselves. Idk maybe there were taking time to make a decision but I don't see why if they wanted to sack ETH they couldn't have done so months ago. They had enough evidence that sacking him wouldn't have raised eyebrows.
