McMaster U. MELTDOWN (with Subtitles) - SJW insanity vs Jordan Peterson's monk-like calm

Jordan Peterson offers incredibly important advice on the appropriate way to respond to tense situations with disruptive protestors - advice that was quite literally lost in the noise of the nonstop protest that shut down an event focused (ironically) on the subject of political correctness & free speech.
Other topics were touched on, both during the official event and the unofficial talk he gave outside. I've omitted much of that, partly because they've been covered in his other talks, but mainly because I wanted to focus on the strategic issue of how to deal with protests/silencing/no-platforming, which doesn't get enough air time.

@@Remington3222 Boyan, I never said his protractors won the debate, I honestly couldn't hear either them or JP, but at least the protestors had a very clear message. They obviously don't like it when bigots come to their campus and try to tell them how to think. And that is because each one of them are a thousand times smarter than JP. And they have a perfect right to talk over him which is called Freedom of Speech. NO ONE stopped JP from speaking, he went outside so people could hear him better and continued his whine-fest outside and only made a fool of himself. But I DO Agree with JP on the Law in Canada that he is against. I think it's CRAZY to criminalize speech even if it is bigoted or racist. I think it's better to allow people to say what they want, so that when they say racist or fascist statements, we can see who they are and beat the living fuck out of them for making bigoted statements, which should be done in each case. @@Edisius95 I wouldn't say that the majority of the left is driven by this idea. That's more of an extreme-left, where state governs whether you piss your bed at night. Mass-media has fed you the small lie so that you would readily swallow the big lie. As Peterson stated, just because you've claimed to represent a group does not make you representative. An idea does not bind a person to it, and a person does not bind themselves to an idea. One bad apple does not spoil the bunch, and to accost a "left" line of thinking based solely on the fact that it is left-leaning is... intellectually dishonest. The foundation of left-leaning thought is neither inherently bad nor wrong. I will say, however, that political extremists have twisted the population's perception of the ideology, but again: one bad apple does not spoil the bunch. If you cannot sit down at the dinner table and discuss politics with someone who doesn't agree with you without getting angry, perhaps you need to review how you see other people. Would you rather be inside an echo-chamber where all thought is the same (or it is seen as inherently wrong)? Or would you rather be open to civil discussion where all ideas and viewpoints are available to be considered (to allow others' thoughts to potentially change your own)? Labeling someone as a leftist and calling it a day is disingenuous. If you do not allow yourself to listen, you have effectively cut their tongue. And if you have cut their tongue, then you have disallowed them speech. If you have disallowed them speech, then you have forfeited your own.

Christianity doesn't teach that the stories are literal, people do. I mean c'mon how can Christianity teach anything without someone being its representative? That's why traditions cared so much about the integrity of the messenger, because the messenger is a representative of the school of thought they claim to belong to. Then there's orthodoxy, which tries to restrict what kinds of things can be associated to the school of thought by declaring certain thought heretical, and certain thoughts sacred. Within orthodoxy, if there is moral ambiguity, there is no orthodoxy at all, only tyranny. And that is why organized religion fails most of the time.

@quixxo Yes, sadly, that's true. He was also simply drafted by his church to take a stand in the politics swirling around Rosa Parks. As I recall, the church elders had a meeting about that and other problems, at which they decided he would be the best man to publicly represent the local black community. The whole thing was thrust upon him, whether he wanted it or not. But once appointed, he took the 'movement' all the way to Washington, D.C., and made it a serious force to be reckoned with, in the process. I don't think anyone would deny his charisma and oratory skills. His steadfast insistence on non-violence was absolutely the right thing to do, as well. That's the only way to do it, in the end. Just look at how the world has responded to the violence at the U.S. Capitol last week. I can't imagine plagiarizing someone else's work. It's hard to square that, and his extra-marital affairs, with his legend and his accomplishments. But so, OK, he was an imperfect human. Surprise! Who will cast the first stone? Ultimately, his (many would say, 'unsolved') assassination demonstrates just how influential and powerful he had become, and how inconvenient that was for an establishment that just wasn't ready for the political shock waves he set off. He is a towering presence in American culture to this day, and will be for the foreseeable future. His are big shoes to fill, which is why no one has been able to do it for black Americans since his death. That includes Obama, who has achieved quite a lot, thank you very much. It also includes Malcolm X, for example, who I think is worth remembering. Legendary people are never perfect, sometimes not by a long-shot. And, we won't necessarily agree with all, or even part, of what they stand for. But their cultural influence is undeniable. So which are more important, MLK's weaknesses or his strengths?

This is coming from someone who takes natural estrogen boosters to have full spectrum power... My soul has nothing to do with my body. My body doesn't define me and does not change the fact that I am in a male body on this planet with gender roles... If you listen to Jordan Peterson his not transphobic. They decide how to interpret the information and if they don't agree then great but you don't restrict someone's viewpoint because it doesn't serve you. that´s not the right way to look at it. Intelligence is like a tool to percieve your surroundings and try to enact the best possible outcome in the present and future, but they utilize it to further a value using the mask of morality, a wish that is supressed so then steadily grows, and manifests as their primary value in the world. And because of this, their alternate trait values don´t flourish and don´t create an interesting well-rounded personality. For example introverts should develop the tool-kit of an extrovert, cause that´healthy for their growth. The reasoning of these people are consumed into their tyrannical relationship with order, and their intelligence is only utilized to fufill their deep wish. They haven´t formed a unity with their spirits, which you can look at as sub-personalities. The attainment of self is through something like authentic primordial human experience, that the soul knows to be true, and only the spirit experiences which I percieve as subjective meaning. But as Peterson said it must run it´s course; it must be spoken into existence and manifest to being. The self lives in the infinite, and there´s an element of vulnerability to it to that, We´re self-conscious of finite flaws and uncomfortable in the unknown. Although those high in openess or extroversion have innate trait values towards exploratory behavior, if they don´t poke their head into chaos they´re sickly animals. Removing free speech is fundamentally restricting exploratory behavior. These ideologs have supressed traits which try to further a wish of resentment. They are undiscovered parts of themselves. One must gaze into tragedy to create beauty, one must look more honestly into the human experience to be at peace with one´s paradoxical nature. It seems to me like the flourishing of primary traits often manifest through the interaction of their opposite. Basically intelligence serves to manifest oneself in the world, fufill one´s wishes and needs and how to orient themselves. From my experience, wishes of trait values seem to be conceived in dreams. It may be properly acted out when it reaches the conscious, our action and exploratory behavior puts the unsconscious to work, and give birth to new fantasies which appear in the conscious the next day. The best way to manifest one´s deepest wishes and truths seem to be self-relization, as creatives who become obsessed with their work, have ideas which occupy the unconscious with all their questions. And after a lot of practise and a deconstruction of the false sense of self, the ego loosens its grip and allow for the collective unconscious to pour out truths of the self onto paper or whatever, in rare blissful moments. Contemplation of what would nourish one´s traits occupy the unconscious mind as it has found a duty for growth, which would be the creative´s flourishment of conscientiousness as I see it. A duty to use creativity to grow and be reliable for others. At these universities, their intelligence gets manipulated to serve as mouthpieces for a collective hivemind that is their marxist ideology. Where they have to bear no responsibility but enacting justice, which is vulnerability disguised as moral superiority. These people haven´t become individuals. It is truly sad as writing, reading and speaking freely are what manifst us into being, this is a disservice to their intrinsic value as individuals, where they do really become victims to themselves. For the soul has advesaries and they cannot be faced by ego-centric convictions and self-deception. If you wondering why I have time to write such a long comment, I´m a writer and just got really into it and couldn´t stop

This video is unbelievably inspiring! I will definitely rewatch this to be reminded of how we win the battle for the souls of our nations. As an amateur historian, this event frightens me! I’ve read to much about the beginnings of radical revolution to simply see a bunch of dumb people, and I think Peterson sees that to. That is why we must not engage them the way they want us to. The more we push back physically, the stronger their worldview gets. And radical idealism like this has only led to death and suffering for millions, who were sacrificed in the name of progress towards a better tomorrow. Please don’t take us down that path. Peterson and others like him are hero’s for resisting this, and we should follow their example!

godofwar078 Humanities departments have a lot influence over university administrations, and those departments are overwhelmingly leftist -- almost categorically so. I'm sure many of the professors of those students are proud to see this. For these people reactionary moral outrage is more important than intellectual understanding, never mind that they barely understand themselves what they're doing.

It is really sad. I was in a discussion with a woman talking politics (hazardous pass-time). I mentioned Dr. Peterson and the conversation screeched to a halt because she didn't want to get into an argument about Dr. Peterson. So I said, "If you have not personally listened to or read any of his messages you might be missing something". Nope, she just said "I'm non-binary and have lots of trans friends and I don't want to talk about Peterson"... and walked out of the room. It's crazy how closed minded some of these people are while demanding that the rest of the world be openminded to their differences...

Good point. All they are doing is attracting peoples attention as to what he's saying and why it's so "controversial". His message is being heard by more people than if these "protesters" weren't attracting so much attention to him. In essence... by attempting to "shut him down" they are actually doing just the opposite.

There's more to it than meets the eye. Those young people were clearly encourage by someone else to behave in this fashion. Have you noticed the two young people a tall boy and the girl were behaving. They weren't afraid if the consequences of they behaviour which means that some influential third party supports them. Another professor perhaps? Maybe Dr Peterson grew too big too fast? Maybe some other colleague wants to take his position? The troublesome youth are just puppets. If it was at my uni it would have been their last day, appalling!
