What's the difference between McMillan A series, U series, and Z series? I know the military uses the A series but I haven't figured out the difference with the U and Z stocks other than molded in thumb rests...

I like McMillan, I like their service they've had with my Marine Corps, but believe it or not, my Magpul Hunter 700 stock shoots more accurately on the same rifles than my M40 McMillan stocks did. I've also used the HS Precision M24 stocks and hate them. They're flimsy foam filled crap with flakey paint that just chips off way to easily. I would love to try out the various solid aluminium chassis systems on the market.

I’ll second that on the HS Precision stocks. Nothing but issues! My barrel channel delaminated due to heating with the proximity to the M24 profile barrel.

Is it me or just my phone making it look like the bipod pic rail is not centered at all? Looks like it’s way off. I’ve got the Bergara B-14 HMR in 6.5 creed and I plan on getting a McMillan stock and proof research 22 or 24 inch barrel in a Sendaro size.

James Grant contrary to popular belief, all precision rifle stocks should be bedded. It will improve the fit and function of every stock, whether fiberglass, fiber/aluminum (think HS-precision) or even chassis style all aluminum units.

They do not require glass bedding. We shot the A3-5 on a 700 match rifle for over a year before I sent it off to be bedded. The difference was well below most shooter's ability to tell. Glass bedding MAY give you a more consistent cold-bore shot, depending on the individual action, recoil lug, barrel and the style of bedding (chamber pad, full free-float, etc.)

How do you install the stock to the action?

There are a few screws on the bottom that hold the action to the stock. If you remove those you can just pull the stock right off. Installing a new one is just the opposite procedure.
