Thank you for the knowledge. I’ve been out of the hobby for about 15yrs but just bought a 300 gallon acrylic tank (I totally blame you😂). We spent about 4 hours sanding and buffing out any scratches. It’s reef ready but we’re staying with freshwater and I’d like it to look like your 8’ tank. I really appreciate all the advice.

I’ve been watching you for years and have been checking in now and again. Last month I caved and finally bought a tank. I now have 2 tanks and I’m working on my third. I used to have 2 tanks when I was about 14 but it didn’t go very well. Probably because your channel didn’t exist yet :) I had no real direction back then and felt quite defeated so thank you for reigniting my passion and teaching me the many things I wish I knew when I was 14. I’m 21 now and I think this really is a lifelong hobby

A good tip when they have babies is to leave them with the parents, but make sure there is always a little light on around the tank, also at night. i usually have my light set to 1-2% brightness on at night (blue light only) This means that the parents can see their own young at all times, so you avoid them eating them themselves. and that they can defend them from other fish. when they have reached a good size, you can turn off the light again at night. that way, I always get a lot of babies out of it when my fish have babies.

7:00 you did great. I used to be obsessed with fine finishes on things I built (I worked in joinery for years), but these days I think the best thing you can do is just build. You did it, and a lot of people didn't. That's a huge success in and of itself. Even better though, you did a nice job. I always tell people: you won't get good at projects like this without trying first. I'm sure you had some ideas that wouldn't work, or have tried building stuff that didn't work. That's what it's all about. Wood working KZbin might convince some of us otherwise, but it's a total mess. You do a great job of showing people you can do things without being pretentious or over-the-top about it. I mean, some of your scapes are crazy, but you keep it real for most of us a lot of the time. You might not realize it, but showing people a cabinet you built might be even better inspiration, and more realistic inspiration at that, than a ton of builders on KZbin. 9:35 what kind of stones are these? Did I miss it? I can't seem to find you mentioning what they are. They look great. 10:11 Soak it with glue? In this economy?

22:45 plecos are not just chewing on algae but in fact on wood!! it seems not essential but it wouldnt hurt either. just place it under/behind rocks where only the plecos can access it and you cant see it (to keep the rocks only scape)

I bet if you put your aquasoil/root tabs in a mesh bag so the acara can’t disturb the nutrients even if they excavate the sand on top it won’t be a huge problem. Could put s line of mesh bags in the back for stems and then just rely on epiphytes in the front and pothos to fo the heavy lifting for nutrient export.

I noticed you use white paper towels. As much as we all hate the crappy brown industrial paper towels at restaurants (because they are awful), in your tank builds might be the perfect place to use them. Hopefully cheaper and easier to hide the brown towels, than the white. As they also aren't bleached and have no dyes.
