I'm only 1:48 seconds in and it sounds like it was the parents who told him the urges were wrong and it made him hate himself each time he had them and internalized it which built up to a point where it affected him mentally. Like, puberty will do things to a person, that's just natural biology and it is the parents job to explain to him what he feels is normal and to deal with it in an appropriate and healthy manner. It's parents like that who allow children to become dangerous to themselves and society.

happened to me I too cried out for help.dad in my opinion didn't want children loved mom till the end,helped my oldest brother a little some my middle older brother and me absolutely not just enough that is was is actions.in the end the oldest succeeded middle one did too with everything including starting a family and retired...me NO luck in 60 still doing work as a truck driver with no retirement in site and 2 oldest brothers and a father that helped themselves only and me with disabilities

That’s the problems. Parents don’t think that their have a say in just because they are kids. If a kid says they are depressed or need help, the parents don’t do anything because they take it personally that their kid is not happy because their methods of parenting comes in question and it attacks them so to not face to that vulnerability; they want to be seen as good parents. In doing so, since parents take it personally that their kid is depressed or in need of help, it’s the kid who ends up having to make the parents feel better while at the same time the kid remains depressed or in need of help with no help provided for him/her. People think that the parents don’t have involvement in the depression a kid feels if they aren’t 18 or above.

This is crazy. In another episode, a fourteen-year-old girl, with her parent's consent, is married to a forty-year-old man, and, because she is married the law states that she is able to make her own medical decisions regarding treatment without the consent of her husband or parents. In this episode, we have a male minor, around the age of fifteen or sixteen, who isn't married but is unable to make any medical decisions without his parent's consent. The law in some countries/states is so messed up & contradictive.

It depends on the state. In some states if a minor married an adult, the adult spouse is now that child’s legal guardian. The only emancipation is medical similar to teen moms. The teen mom can make medical decisions for her child but she is still legally a minor.

His sexual impulses became so strong from being repressed for so long from his parents' views that sex is only for procreation, and since he couldn't get the temporary chemical castration, by trying to cut off his testicle he was essentially following Matthew 5:29-30: "If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. Also I think extreme cases of self harm like this are from mental illness brought on by many host of life/family problems/false dogma not the idea of sex is just for one thing it self. I think Most men who get Chemically castrated are those who do so for cancer reasons self hatred or sexual deviancy. Oh, I found out there's a term for it, chemical castration...well, there's other terms out there too. Puberty blockers, for instance. Just because it's referred to as something with a potentially inflammatory term, doesn't mean you have to be told that term. If the effects of the drug are explained, with risks/benefits discussed, the doctors have absolutely fulfilled their duty. It would be like if you had to warn people that oh by the way, in addition to the actual description I just gave you for how it works, you should know that nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas. Or nitroglycerin is also an explosive. Or ketamine is also known as "special K." It provides limited value, if any value at all, to the conversation, and distracts from the important points that should've been emphasized about how it works and the actual risks of taking it vs not taking it.

Wow, that was really thought provoking! I saw a documentary about a psychiatrist who believed that pedophiles were mentally I’ll and should be given treatment early on before they act on their perversions. And without being made to feel like a monster but rather someone who is ill. They interviewed several offenders who claimed they fought hard to resist their urges and hated themselves for the way they felt but were too scared to tell anyone.

I heard a podcast where there are groups of folks who say they want help, they gather online to explore options to get treatment, and hold all members of the group accountable if they violate stated boundaries/rules before they act on their urges. The folks brave enough to discuss this seemed rational and well-meaning.

@@shesadg1 there should be more help available and treatments. I imagine one of the biggest issues is mandatory reporting. If someone were to tell their psychologist that they had a fantasy about their neighbours child for example would they have to report said child to protective services as a child in danger? Perhaps an anonymous letter could be sent to the parents stating ways to help keep their child safe. It would be terrifying to receive such a letter but I’m sure most people would rather know. And just knowing the parent is aware of the risk would likely be a deterrent.

Yeah this exists in other countries. In Germany we have a movement called "Nicht Täter werden" that means "to not become an offender". They offer therapy and support groups. But in the US that would probably be hard to implement because you don't have free healthcare and who would pay for this.

As a therapist myself, I honestly don't think I could keep my cool like Dr. Charles does if those parents asked me "What did we do wrong?" After having told them what the right thing was given what their son wanted and them refusing, and especially given the drastic act that he was willing to commit to accomplish what his parents weren't willing to do for him. This is why people need to talk to their children. My ex had these issues with controlling his sexual fantasy even though he promised himself and god that he wasn’t going to do it. His parents would often get mad at him for the things he would do. They didn’t let him take Sex Ed because they wanted to teach him themselves. He was often critical of women that sex outside of marriage. He repressed his sexual thoughts so much that they came out little by little. I remember an argument we had when he wanted to fool around in the backseat after a date. Simple groping. He went home and cried and begged for forgiveness. He told his parents so they would forgive him. It also doesn’t help that he’s autistic and we have strong sex drives. It’s still not an excuse. I feel for the kid that his parents would not listen to him.

You gave him religious trauma that told him any sexual urges are wrong when they're natural so they manifested to the point of fantasizing over rape and peeping because he had to be secretive over his desires, then when he wanted a chemical castration to control his urges, you said no and that god would take care of it and continued to use religion to try and suppress his desires so he decided to take it into his own hands. Not always. It's psychological. If patient will fully understand how bad their behavior is, it can straight up lead to worsening of the situation, as well as forcing them to go to the police. Some people can be extremely sensitive to this kind of things.

I dont know if it was just me, but what I got from the body language was an interesting story. Taking out the religious aspect of this, the dad immediately shuts down at the mention of castration (chemical or otherwise). He doesn't like the idea of his own son not having high testosterone, because he views it as cruel and unnatural. But it looked like mom was hesitant. At the mention of rape, she looked like she wanted to favor the chemical castration for the sake of other women, and her own son. It's sad to think about, but knowing how it works in super religious homes, Mom wouldn't have any say in her own thoughts against her husband.

The reality is in super strict homes like this, the family is taught that the husband is the head and the wife is submissive and isn't allowed to have a say. It's very common. I went to youth group since I was a young teenager, and I saw many respected couples. But this is not one of those couples.

Obviously the parents never read Song of Solomon...that is some spicy stuff and clearly shows that sex is for procreation and enjoyment. They picked and chose what they wanted to the point of damaging their child. Repression to that point is so damaging and goes beyond just self control. Throwing verses at a kid who is struggling doesn't solve the problem at all and can make it even worse because the parents denied that there was even a problem.

For years I was told that it was my husband fault of me dealing with depression. We both feared getting the diagnoses of bipolar for fear of being look down upon by the church. They convinced me tha God hated me. Everyone in my family has either bipolar or manic depression, so we know its hereditary. My husband finely told me that we had enough and went to the doctors and as we thought had a diagnosis of bipolar and started taking meds. My husband went to school to be in the ministry. He was to be a pastor in our church but the other pastor, and he told the other pastor what's going on with me just for some support. Right then I was never good to be a pastors wife with that pastor of our church. When my husband saw how the pastor and his wife treated me he had enough. What was being taught at that church was not the gospel. We left and we were not the only ones. 3 other family saw the abusive teachings how he treated others and the fact that the gospel is not even being taught. Now were are at a church were the pastors understand mental illness and don't put any guilt about it on us, they dont judge us. They even said to my husband that because I'm dealing with this illnes dosen't me he is disqualified to be a pastor. They told him that actually going through this will help others. Once we heal from our last abusive pastor they hope to put my husband on as a pastor. I get upset when parents dont talk to there kids about mental illness and heck going threw puberty and what their going threw is something the everyone goes threw. We just cant let it control their live. Were are not perfect and God doesn't expect to be perfect.

Bipolar runs in my family too, I struggle with anxiety and depression and finally we are at a church where it’s not seen as a symptom of ongoing sin. Or something they just look at you dumbfounded like they don’t know what to do with you. The person who has it is more unipolar so they lean more towards one side then the other so they were diagnosed later then most. I have physical disabilities, mental illness is just a disability of the brain, a chemical I’m imbalance it doesn’t excuse bad behavior as the person with it would say themselves but it CAN affect your behavior. Through Christ we have the power to overcome sun, but those with mental illness just have to fight harder to over those issues. I don’t envy what they go through.

I had a classmate that was going to do this in front of the student body during changing class time but a teacher saved him and us. We did not know why we had to remain in class until we were told we could change class. He was very picked on for being gay. He was taken out of school and was homeschooled.

Children can be extremely cruel. I dealt with these patients. They have low self confidence, a lot of suicidal thoughts to the point where they don't want to live just to end this constant bullying Teens and kids can not fully understand most of the time how harmful their words are for other kids.

Had these thoughts for about a year, when I was 16-17, during which time I had started ADHD medications, trial and error type where you switch doses and or meds if they don't work, similar to depression meds, anxiety etc. They actually caused depression, obsessive thoughts about girls I liked, suicidal thoughts which were strengthened by the fear of hurting one of them, etc. Now I'm past that, and am 100% back to normal I realize that just because you get thoughts doesn't make you a bad person, it's how you act on or react to them that does.

I have always said if people like this boy, were given a safe space to talk about urges that worry them, perhaps they could be treated and some, future victims, may be saved from bad events in life. But sadly having 'unnatural' feelings is seen as such a bad thing, these people are shamed into being silent until the day they can't control it and go too far. In my province at age 14, you have control over your own medical choices. Your parents get no choice in the matter, they can counsel you if you so choose but can not act or force you to or not to do a medical procedure. In my third year, we learn about vaccines which is the year we turn 14 and the year we are to receive crucial vaccines to help against major illnesses and may receive ones missed in childhood if you're parents disagreed (for free + schedule an appointment if you need more than four). I got my first covid vaccine through my high school but my second I received in another province where the age of consent is 18. I was 17 at the time and my mother had to consent for me. Nothing has ever made me feel so violated in a medical setting before, I almost had to leave as I was feeling so nauseous. I can't imagine what that poor young man must be feeling.

This is why men have a high sex drive (women also have testosterone at varying levels for sex drive). For criminals their "sex drive" is usually inspired by the need for violence and domination, and this desire may not be turned off with chemical castration.
