Finally a reaction to one of the most beautiful song of Nightwish! Underrated but so, so good!
@Piia20233 жыл бұрын
This is Tuomas mother's favorite Nightwish song. Tuomas in one of the greatest ballad composer's thereis, they are all so very beautiful. Check out Eva also with Anette, so so amazing.

Great piece of trivia, Pia, one of my favorites as well...thanks you!

This song is a bit experimental with the gospel influences but its a really good song. Anette was the singer before Floor. She is often forgotten since she maybe wasnt the best live singer. But several of Nightwish best songs were written during the Anette Era. And The Dark Passion Play album is a killer album. Btw this comment is written by a true old nightwish Tarja Era fan. However i like the newer singers as well. Nightwish will always be my true love no matter who the singer is. Im gonna miss Marko though but his health is more important.

There's a concert from Serbia uploaded from 2008 where Anette is really great!
@1981juhis3 жыл бұрын
@@stephsteph4574 and overall I think Anette did very good job with "her own songs" on live too. It is just sad that she is often judged because she struggled with some songs from Tarja's era. She said in an interview that they were little bit in a wrong pitch for her and those were impossible to change because of all the recorded orchestrations... So it was a bit unfair for her to even perform those songs live but it's still great they did🤘

Starting as a nice little folk song, taking a little metal ballad detour and ending like a Wagner opera with some soul thrown in. Amazing!

Thank you for this. Meadows is so beautiful song, I wish it could have more attention. I get chills every time I listen to it. ❤️ Anette has left behind when people are ranting about Floor and Tarja, but in my opinion the most beautiful slow songs of Nightwish are from her era. And she sings them perfectly - at least on albums.
@mnewm213 жыл бұрын
Her live singing was questionable and the change from Tarja to Annette was too big a leap for fans at the time. I was only ever a 50/50 with Tarja songs as I just didn't find a lot of them worked for me and even I will admit the leap at the time was huge as the vocals are not even remotely similar in style or sound! The only similarity is Emppus guitar work and Tomas haunting keys! I do think the musicianship grew in leaps and bounds in the Annette era though as I find the songs on the two albums much more consistently good and now Floor is able to bring the two eras together :D
@annukkas3 жыл бұрын
@@mnewm21 Yes, I agree. With a band like Nightwish you have to be able to sing great live. And the change was drastic and confusing - even I was confused and I wasn't a fan back then. I remember thinking that "that's it, now they will be compared to any other female lead band". I was afraid they could lost all of their originality. I am glad I was wrong. Instead they had two masterpiece albums with her. I think Tuomas got a great studio singer for his new vision, but the problem was live performances and the capability to sing the old material. I agree that they have now a perfect singer for all of their work.

@johannessilver86533 жыл бұрын
I think this one of the best slows songs too...and maybe the greatest by Anette in NW. She really shines in here and again Tuomas designed it perfectly for the singer, In the end I suppose there is a gospel choir helping the voices too.
@mardroidmk139311 ай бұрын
I'm two years late commenting: but yes they have a gospel choir backing and doing their bit at the end. I have seen a couple of live performances by Annette where she actually goes into full gospel style mode at the end herself, and she smashes it! She is brilliant!

*This is from the 2007 album "Dark Passion Play".....and this is the studio-version [Anette-era]. The problem is that most Nightwish reactions are live-versions. The live-versions with Floor or Tarja are killer, no doubt at all....BUT no one will EVER get the FULL awesomeness of the Nightwish -- songs, if the reactors don't know the studio-versions too......because the live-versions are not always arranged in the same way as the studio-versions....best examples: "The Islander", "Last Of The Wilds"....*

this song is so different and yet is so very Nightwish and is one of the few songs I have heard played by random people who have no idea who Nightwish are. Once it was being used at a funeral and I smiled and got a "look" from a woman and so I later went and said to her that the smile was because I was surprised to hear a heavy metal band song playing at a funeral and she twisted up her face at that and I thought oh there is that reaction to metal from those who don't listen to it! To her credit though she went and listened to Nightwish and I think is now a little bit of a fan of their "quieter stuff" and that is my Meadows of Heaven story :D
@jeffk14823 жыл бұрын
I hear you! I love the shock factor too, when I play a Nightwish ballad or more "folk" song by them for someone. Then that "someone" who wouldn't give metal music the time of day says "Wow, that's really good! Who is it?" Then when I tell 'em it's a metal band called Nightwish, they look like you hit them in the face with a frying pan or something! It's fun.

Floor had done this song live in first year on tour with band. There is a you tube version out there. Annette is very good here. She has a great voice for some of Nightwish songs even though Floor and Tarja are more versatile.
@ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD3 жыл бұрын
Much of what you react to by Nightwish isn’t “new stuff” (other than the album that just dropped). It’s live versions of them playing old songs, Floor basically covering songs originally sung by Tarja or Annette. Meadows of Heaven is from the same Studio album as Poet and the Pendulum, The Islander and Amaranth.

She literally does not sing the chorus line "Meadows of Heaven" the same way twice. The first half orchestral is truly pastoral then gets both Celtic & symphonic, it's hard to compare to anything other than "The Gael" (the theme from Last of the Mohicans), or maybe Wagner. The guitar solo is up there with Roger Waters' best.

Marko still had tongue-in-the cheek about Tommy Iommi (Black Sabbath guitarist since beginning of band) It's better that Marko has enought strengt and sisu to make this solution of sabatical time with his loved ones. My deepest respect to him and hope he has time so find serenity and give will to make comeback! I rather to read these headlines, than orbituarys like, Gary Moore, Paul Gray, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston etc. had. And the always joking my favourite actor Robin Williams. Stay safe and take care and remember to ask your family and friends "How's the Heart?" "

I don't know why Anette sounded "good" in studio and so awful and painful live. She isn't the greatest singer but her songs were nice and Tuomas composed great albums. It's a pity he doesn't compose anymore strong and heavy songs like the ones in Dark passion play...
@thegameshark89663 жыл бұрын
There are some great singers who just can’t take touring and Anette was sadly one of those singers. Despite this she does have a few really good live performances on KZbin
@markusstutzmann82163 жыл бұрын
I think Tuomas creats the sound of the band in a way that it fits to the singers skill. With every new singer the sound of the band changes. Floor is the best singer so far, but the best songs were writen in the "Tarja-age" (and Floor is not able to create these vibes (another singer, another feeling)). Not only Tarja left the band, their spirit also left......... but they are still insane great and overskilled. It´s a "shame" that Marco left the band......my heart is bleeding :(
