I would be so confused if I didn't know. This is terrible marketing. It's literally only for people who already know about it, rather than doing what a trailer is supposed to do: inform the uninformed. There is nothing in the trailer, nor the description, to indicate that this is a musical. It mentions "a new twist" in both places and then never shows or explains what the twist is.

Not a remake of the original movie, they aren't trying to beat the original movie when they're doing a different approach similar to last year's Matilda and the new Color Purple movie. I mean, I could see the scenes that were supposed to. be a comedy, but... it's just how I am, I don't laugh, I don't find comedies funny, I just watched it for it's plot but I still really like the original. this... well, I think it's gonna be a big, fat 0/10, based on the fact I thought it's gonna be a parody, and apparently ITS A MUSICAL, which honestly... I don't know which is worse. it's probably gonna be both. I will definitely not rush to the theater. I mean, I never do, but I won't even wait for it to be available to download online somewhere.

This is exactly what happened with Hairspray. Most people don't even remember that was originally and non-musical movie from the 1980s. The musical completely overtook its originator, but I don't really see that happening here because the 2004 Mean Girls has had so much more staying power than the original Hairspray.

You are saying that very few people should be exposed to the musical because it should be some elite experience for special people like you who had the means and opportunity to see it on stage. And obviously to see it on stage in New York for hundreds of dollars, years ago, during the specific period between Taylor Louderman leaving and Broadway shutting down for the pandemic because those are the only people who should ever see Rene Rapp play Regina. Ever. She is not on the cast album and obviously you think there should be no soundtrack recording so her World Burn should just not be on an album. Everyone is in awe of your grandeur but meanwhile a few million ordinary people would like to see the girl who voiced Moana sing I'd Rather be Me.

I hope to see it on stage in person some day and I think it works fantastically in that medium, but I would rather have seen a filmed stage production over this.
