My country, Ecuador, has been using the traffic light system on food for over ten years now, and it has definetly contributing in lowering sugar consumption, since a big Coca Cola Bottle now comes with a big red HIGH SUGAR label. nice to see it go to other countries as well.
@CoxJul2 жыл бұрын
Been standard in the UK and Europe for ages too... it was the "sugar tax" in the UK (for example, makes full-fat Coke $approx 10% more expensive than Diet or Zero) made the big difference to changing behaviour.
@L33tSkE3t2 жыл бұрын
In many progressive states and cities in the U.S. we also have pretty high sugar Tax on Soda which I’m all for. I do keep a few of the small 8oz Cokes in my fridge to enjoy in a glass over ice from time to time as a treat but I would love for the U.S. to administer the traffic light system. Although soda consumption with Millennials, Zillenials and Gen Z has gone down significantly, as well as alcohol consumption really going down as America has become more health Conscious in the past decade or so and in States with recreational and Medical Mariana being legal in many states, shows a correlation of decreased alcohol consumption which I’m all for. Alcohol is one of the worst drugs, it’s kills so many people, poisons their liver and results in increased violence and dangerous actions while intoxicated or driving under the influence which is truly deadly. I went to the Shambhala Festival in Canada for the first time and it’s an alcohol free festival and although drugs are technically illegal, they have drug testing stations with reagent tests and even spectrometers to ensure what you have is safe and what you think it is and isn’t laced with dangerous and deadly fentanyl or one of its even more dangerous analogues. i had some molly, they tested it for free to ensure it was MDMA and had not been laced with Fentanyl and I had a great time. They also had one of the most impressive medical and security staffs and had chill out zones for people that may need a rest and who might be having a bad trip and one thing that I really thought was cool is they had an area for just woman so if they feel uncomfortable because some guys are acting disrespectful, they can escape from that which as a guy is something I never really thought about before as a guy we don’t have to deal with that kind of unwanted harassment and because I was raised to have respect for woman but, yeah.. it was a really cool comforting and safe festival and Ill probably go next year. Oh and another cool thing is they had a place for sober people to chill so that those in the program like AA or NA could go to the festival and not have that same pressure or temptation I guess that could cause them to relapse and they could go to that area and speak to a certified addiction counselor or sponsor, I also though that was also really cool. They really thought of everything for everyone to have a good time.

In case you want to know: The recent study wasn't actually on the effects of coffee on longevity: we've known for quite a few years now that black coffee contains powerful anti-inflammatory agents that can reduce the swelling in (among other things) your veins, which reduces the likelihood of plaque build-up that leads to heart attacks and strokes.. as long as you're not drinking so much coffee it's giving you heart palpitations. _This_ study was to find out if adding sugar or sweeteners to coffee made any difference, or if the same effects applied to decaffeinated coffee; and, it turns out, none of that matters and you can still expect the benefits no matter what else you're doing to your morning cup of joe. The sugar and sweeteners, of course, can reduce the effect because they add their own complications, but overall it's still a net benefit.

I only stepped forward when I realized that I was making the line extend outside the building. I'm fully vaccinated and boosted, and I don't have any health conditions that put me at risk, so I really shouldn't worry. And yet, I do. To underscore the truth to Stephen's statement about neuroticism increasing during the pandemic, it made me cry. I've got autism and the pandemic only enhanced the struggles. He has his tough times too, of course. But it seems he's most content when he's focused on learning, memorizing, drawing, or reading. When my own "monkey brain" is tormenting me, I really admire my newphew's ability to summon up focus and determination -- giving his mind something productive to work on. It makes me want to be more like him.

My sister and I were diagnosed with ADHD last year. It would explain our flailing about in our younger adult years, and it got exasperated when the pandemic started. Since starting meds for it, I **think** I might be fine, despite having meltdowns on rare occasions these days due to certain stressors, but not everything needs to be perfect. Sis, on the other hand, I worry for her some days. She has ADD-innatentive, so she's not as hyperactive as I am (lethargic most days,vreally, but a slow, methodical and careful thinker), but I have a feeling she might also have some underlined autism, since she can't handle ANY kind of stress due to essentially being overly sensitive. So, yeah, mood, man. Not sure what can be done about it from our end, but your idea of finding a friend group would probably help with your situation; just having people to talk to, be it in person or IRL, can be beneficial. Come to think of it, I've been playing an MMORPG and made some connections since the pandemic, so I think that's why I haven't gone, um, "neurotic", but it doesn't have to be video games if it's not your thing.
@StandingMoonlit2 жыл бұрын
I feel that. My ADHD diagnosis came out of a complete meltdown at the start of the pandemic from loss of routine. I also haven’t had a proper break for too long. Our lazy embrace of Colbert is a testament to our own impoverished comic standards. We have come to accept coy mockery as genuine subversion and snarky mimesis as originality. It would be more accurate to describe our golden age of political comedy as the peak output of a lucrative corporate plantation whose chief export is a cheap and powerful opiate for progressive angst and rage. What Stewart and Colbert do most nights is convert civic villainy into disposable laughs. They prefer Horatian satire to Juvenalian, and thus treat the ills of modern media and politics as matters of folly, not concerted evil. Rather than targeting the obscene cruelties borne of greed and fostered by apathy, they harp on a rogues’ gallery of hypocrites familiar to anyone with a TiVo or a functioning memory. Wit, exaggeration, and gentle mockery trump ridicule and invective. The goal is to mollify people, not incite them...

To be fair, they weren't actually contradicting themselves. This new study says coffee helps you _live_ longer, not make you healthier. Coffee can screw with your insulin production, increases the heart rate, give you the runs, and a whole bunch of other unhealthy side effects... but while doing so it's also reducing inflammation which can help you avoid a life-ending heart attack. Same with the Great Egg Debate that started in the 80's and is still going today, eggs are both healthy for you (compact complete proteins, improves liver function, helps growing brains develop) and bad for you (mega-doses of fat and the worst kinds of cholesterol). So every time the medical community gave us new information, it wasn't actually contradicting the earlier reports.

So you end up with legit research where the findings highlight the desired results and other factors are down played. Give the exactly same results to someone else they can easily show different conclusion. Whats weird is remember when people first saw other people outside? All they were was relieved.."I havent seen you", " how are you?". Some still are like that, but lots of people have gone to nasty outbursts, etc. I think you can gauge from that the people willing to sacrifice for the greater good and see the big picture and relieved to be alive from the people who resent not getting their way. We all wish it were 2019 (or even better 2010) again..sigh.

All I did was to take some basic precautions and get on with my life. I certainly don't feel anxious or neurotic.

LOL, Trump Is Still the Democrats' Daddy. Donald Trump isn’t merely living rent-free in Democrats’ heads, he’s building condos there and having the time of his life. The Dems haven’t been able to enjoy one single moment of their “victory” in the 2020 election because Trump is still out there, smiling, and teasing a run in 2024. They wake up thinking about him. They retire to their beds of shame, thinking about him at the end of every day. The House Soviet Select Committee on Daddy Issues, also known as the J6 Committee, exists solely to make up reasons to keep Trump from running for president again because they know that they have no one who can beat him in a fair fight and without a generous assist from a pandemic. Monkeypox to the rescue.

That’s only because you’re building a physiological tolerance to caffeine which IS bad for you but while also consuming all the other ‘good’ stuff in coffee such as antioxidants. So the more tolerant you are, the less caffeine is impacting you biologically. At that point it’s only alleviating your withdrawal.
@lysanamcmillan79722 жыл бұрын
Unless you're like me and the caffeine is more of a neurotransmitter enhancer. If I don't get my caffeine, my depression is terrible. I've tried discussing this with my psychiatrist and she just shrugs. I sleep normally and don't get jitters or heart palpitations, but that's been true for decades without me doing over 1200mg a day in different forms.
@Ryan888812 жыл бұрын
@@lysanamcmillan7972 That's called withdrawal. Slowly taper off and space at least 3 days between 'caffeine days' if you want to get the full effects but still *must* use it long term. And of course you avoid dependence and withdrawal this way too. When you're dependent on a drug you're not balanced without it. You sleep normally and don't get jitters or palpitations because you have a tolerance. At this point, 90% of what it's doing for you is probably just countering your withdrawal to caffeine which is why it's having a 'positive' effect. For people without a caffeine tolerance or dependence it tends to be a very unpleasant and scatterbrained drug for us so we can't relate to the pleasure aspect. It only seems to cause peripheral euphoria at most. Theobromine is a much better buzz.
