We went to the cafe in 1992. Waitress totally didn't get it. My wife and daughter were dying suppressing their laughter. Then a Japanese tour bus showed up. Twin Peaks was phenomenal in Japan. A woman asked me where I was from. Instead of saying Portland, I told her Japan. Eh? I showed her my Japanese driver's license and she was dumbfounded. Or astonished? English is difficult.

I was a teen when Twin Peaks came out, and (as is common in teenagers) I felt awkward and weird. David Lynch’s strange worlds made me realize that everyone (real people too!) is weird. We all have our quirks, and that’s to be celebrated. It was a transformative experience for young me.
