Man I'd have loved to see the alternate universe version of this game where Sully got to Blair and played the Marionette card on her before she heard and revealed the Dom info. Not sure if it's enough to sway the game but it might have helped. Or at least if they had committed to daisy chaining the claim and having Blair tell Tilly she was her Marionette for the sake of chaos haha. I swear these BOTC games get better every time

It totally could have swung the game. Everyone for the most part believed Blair was good, so if she was convinced by Sully to lie and say someone else for her final night of info, Dom would have been much more safe and they would have had an easier time swinging the votes elsewhere.

It's hard not to feel like Ben had a vendetta against the evil team. If you look at all the clues he gave in the game he really backed the evil team into a corner with no means of escape. Maybe I'm just being salty, but it feels like a massive misplay by Ben with the clues given this game, almost like he wanted the good team to win.

I have to agree with this, sadly. Giving a drunk Savant absolutely gamesolving info (with both statements, which also benefits other members of his team passively) at this point in the game, when his team was already on the path to victory, is just not good storytelling. No matter how you look at it.

@@web_angel1099 I don't think it was a vendetta against the evil team, I think the evil team had a lot of advantages from the setup and Ben was trying to rebalance the game back toward 50/50. Three Village Idiots with two of them drunk can be crippling because if they compare notes, they're going to think the drunk info is the correct info. Ben knew this, he even said multiple times that he was backed into a corner and had to do it because the demon was randomly sat between 2 Village Idiots and one of them had to become Marionette -- which is not ideal. It's also fine to give a drunk Savant a bunch of true information because they're going to think half of it is false. Dom & Laurie correctly read the board that Blair was going to solve the game, they hatched a plan, Sullivan botched the execution by not talking to Blair soon enough with the 2nd Marionette bluff to try to compromise the Balloonist info. The fact that Dom was in the Balloonist 4 and people were trying to target outside of the Balloonist 4 was damning that it was an attempt to get the demon off the block.

No one even believed Sully was a VI at that point, ironically, despite the fact that he technically was and the person they accepted over him was completely lying.

@@web_angel1099 Nah, Ben did a great job of balancing the scales all throughout the game. This was a nail biter through and through. The only reason why Dom got outed as the Demon was because he happened to be the first to be nominated by Beccy, who was the only one certain of her info, and even she started doubting herself after the fact. Had it not been for Ken keeping the good team disciplined not to tie the vote, they could've easily lost this one. I honestly can't imagine a better way to do what Ben did given the circumstances and I feel he did great, and the game was saved several times from being pure guesswork and staying true to it being a convoluted puzzle.

End game spoiler: Dom got a lot of flak for losing the game for evil, but honestly, he stressed to Sully that he needed to pull the ‘Blair’s your fake minion’ plan IMMEDIATELY, and then Sully didn’t until it was too late. Blair getting her info out was the worst thing that could happen for evil and was what sealed their fate.

It's a good game overall but fair warning for some madness-breaking that Ben let slide because they were new players; if you're the kind of person who gets really annoyed by that kind of thing you probably won't have fun with it.

It's so hard to get an intentional Evil Politician win because you have to play so loudly and your loud play has to swing the game. I think a better approach is to try to play for Good and only switch to Evil if you've somehow gained enough leverage (like in a key vote) that you can swing the game in a single unilateral move. Otherwise it's just too hard because your loud play is going to make everyone suspicious of you and therefore cautious about following your plan.

​@@Phyrre56 true, but consider: it's very fun to be intentionally useless. it is also very iconic that Ivan got in a double claim with BOTH Minions independently. I will also say, it really depends on how the Storyteller runs it, whether it's more a "you have to be the single central piece of this win" or "you contributed in some meaningful way". If they're very lenient it could even be "you clearly played for evil & it helped them out at some point, so I'll let you turn evil". Like, with Politician, different ways of Storytelling them favour different approaches to the character. Yet at the end of the day, nothing makes for a better politician (and game) than a player just choosing to have fun with it imo

I'm very amused by the happenstance of starting Day 1 with confessing everyone's roles, in a game where one minion knows every role in play, the other minion already believes they are something else, and the demon has their bluffs. None of the evil team actually needed to take any chances with their role declarations.

They got 6 votes because Dom voted for himself, thus making him seem super good, cause why would you overvote as the Demon? I think it was the only way evil could have won, and they were (kinda) close. In Day 5, Ivan would have played as evil and maybe Dom would have been safe enough to avoid execution.

Becca and Ken nailed it as MVPs for good team. Ken especially clocking himself as getting false info and sticking with it even with other VIs giving false info. Amazing YOLO play from Laurie and Sully to go for the Marionette gaslight, would have been fun to see even more. Most of all thought great to see a Leviathon game show itself to be so entertaining. I think it's really underrated as a demon and this game showed why.

Very sad Ivan didn't realise he could tie the vote on the final day (he did vote on the very last nomination tho but the opportunity was already lost at that point) I think if Laurie was even more reckless with his widow information and convinced the politician into a truce they could have definitely carried Dom into the final day They've learned how to play on a good team very well, their deductions and strategies weren't half as good in the first season. Ken played really well, but he also convinced Jon not to follow Holly on the day he should have, then threw another huge wrench into the good team's play next day (forgot the details). They were the right thing to do from his PoV, but they happened to be hurting the ood team a lot.

I have watched every Blood on the Clocktower episode of NRB, and this definitely has to be one of my favorites. So many twists and turns, where they are ALMOST there, and suddenly there's another swerve. Excellent play by all, no blatantly silly plays by anyone. FUN FUN FUN!

Maybe I'm reading the room wrong, but Ben's Savant tip about the correct Alsaahir guess felt kinda wild. It's not like they had been guessing differently every day, there was only one day's worth of guesses that could be talking about. So if Ben was telling the truth then they just swap that day's guess and win. If its a lie, then at most they miss out on one night's worth of guesses which isn't a massive loss considering they only get information if the roles are guessed correctly. I guess maybe Ben was trying to fake pull off some of the heat from the Dom, Sully, Blair trio? Or emphasize the chance that Chris wasn't puzzledrunk? Either way it felt like a super risky play that could straight up end the game if the Alsaahir's decided to play along. And I'm pretty sure they would have ended the game right there if Ben didn't started pushing for nominations before they came to a decision.

I think Ben was definitely trying to do a “everyone thinks Chris is puzzle drunk, so I give true information” I think the other part of the downfall was giving Holly to the puzzlemaster. Holly was never seen as evil so giving a player who was one of the more trusted as the demon just makes it even more likely that dom is a demon and chris is puzzledrunk. I think if the name given was Sully, Blair, or even Laurie, evil could’ve definitely tried to build a world where dom is puzzle drunk and demon is elsewhere

I think on pure info alone Holly is a pretty good shout, as it's easy to imagine how the alsahir philosopher claim could have been an evil bluff. But since no one had cast suspicion on her, people weren't as inclined to seriously consider that worldview. Hard to say who would have been a better choice though. Blair?

it's interesting, i feel that Dom would probably not been nominated the final day if ben hadn't given the Savant the information he gave the final day, i think giving the Savant so much truthful information ended up backfiring for evil in the end. normally it isn't a bad thing to do with a drunk Savant but the truth that was given mixed with people attaching to the truthful information even tho the Savant was drunk and having a bunch of general confusion ended up leading good down that path. was such a funny mess of a game, loved it.

Man, Dom's self vote really caused a lot of confusion and carried some weight. Becca was a delight, to no one's surprise. Made me realize how much I'd love to see some Dropout cast playing this game. Brennan spouting some Tom style dramatic lines would feel right and true. If the two of them were together, I would be scared. And Holly stealing the new role's ability in a game where the new role is practically guaranteed to be there...Such chaos, and so very Holly.

It shouldn't really. Unless you're a politician, you have no reason to vote on yourself in that situation. So that vote guarantees he's evil (he could still be a minion of course). You don't overvote yourself as good on a Leviathan game.

As major he had to be passive till the round where it counted. In the only other Laurie victory that I remember he was made mad to be the mutant the whole game. Still declared ecstatic he alone was responsible for the victory (when in reality the evil team killed itself due to snake charmer pit hag interaction). As a minion or demon I can't remember Laurie winning. Ever.

It feels weird to say he can only win when he's essentially just idle because it assumes his losses are always somehow his fault when oftentimes they're not, it's just unfortunate/funny coincidence

Ben giving Ivan the Politician the info of the Widow in play was the best possible narrative decision and its insane how he managed to perfectly slide the line of playing for good and evil to the point where he would have basically won the game no matter the outcome - keeping the Widow knowledge to himself to leave both minions open and hide someones poisoned - not telling Laurie hes the Politician and maybe even decuding hes the Widow expecting him to come out and actively work with evil - bluffing as the 4th Village Idiot so he can back up any of the other Village Idiots that fit his goal - And having the chance to get the Demon of the block twice, with the follow up plan of trying to convince Becca she is his Marionette and playing martyr for the real Demon Ben maybe held the Grimore in his hands, but Ivan was the holding the entire game in his hand.

I feel like Ivan won despite himself. As a Politician he already wins if Good wins. So he only has to "do the most" to win with Evil. But he was obviously trying to "do the most", but not for Evil. Him backing up Becca's good information based on nothing can't be called strategic. It was just randomly pushing hard on something in the hopes he'd be seen as "doing the most" to make it happen. Which, again, he didn't need to do to win with Good.

Admittedly, I don't know how good he felt about the accuracy of the information he decided to cosign, but that ambiguity is the problem. Crafting an elaborate series of lies to swing people only helps you win with one team, unless you get really lucky and the BS your pushing (and it is BS) just so happens to be exactly right. That's why I say he won despite himself. Because all his machinations were only necessary if he was trying to win with Evil, so I don't buy that he was at any point deliberately helping Good with his lies. He just got lucky in that his lies turned out to be in support of someone who was exactly right.

@@JCPRuckus Let me reiterate, it's that exactly what makes the character work. That ambiguity is INTENTIONAL. Again, regardless of the result, a Politician's goal is to have a hand in both sides. Just because they don't have to do the most "for good" like they do with evil doesn't mean they don't have to play for good. In fact, that plausible deniability is exactly what the character NEEDS in order to work. Otherwise, it would simply be a fourth evil character in the form of a glorified marionette that isn't restricted to the demon's neighbor. His goal, as a character, is to help both sides and pick who he thinks has the best shot of winning right at the end.

But based on his actions, I don't believe he thought he was actually working for Good with what he was doing. He was clearly setting himself up to be "doing the most" for Evil, and it just so happened that the "chaos" he chose to sow in order to accomplish that accidentally turned out to actually be backing the one Good character who was on track the whole game. Hell, his lack of voting on the final day was what put the nail in the coffin on the Evil team, since everyone knew it was Dom. I know these are experimental characters and we are seeing some changes, but is this proof that the leviathan needs something to discourage the "sit back and wait till day 4" attitude. Like maybe give it one night kill, or one chance to poison 1 night of info. I mean I suppose the good team do deserve the win for piecing it together in spite of the weirdness with the drunk savant and balloonist seeing 3 village idiots which could easily have led them to a different conclusion, but the evil team can go literally nothing other than give fake info themselves in this set up - they have no chance to get rid of someone with dangerous info

One thing I've learned from this game is that playing widow in person is so difficult. Surely you recruit the politician and get them to help evil? The politician was trying to screw town and indirectly was helping them.

Sure, but you can't out everything to the politician because they can turn on you at a moments notice. Laurie should have outed that he was the Widow (he had to know Ivan was sitting on the ping) but AT BEST he can only tell Ivan who a good person to push on is. If he outs the whole evil team, Ivan can just decide to stay good and out everything.

Recruiting the politician is always a risk. Politician only wins for evil if they are the single player MOST responsible for their team losing. It’s a bonus win condition for them, but the easiest way for them to win is still on the good team. A storyteller could conclude that even the act of the widow recruiting them made the widow as influential, if not moreso, than the politician, even if the politician goes on to tank for the good team. If the storyteller concludes that the politician probably wouldn’t have lost the game for good, if not actively recruited for evil, it’s very possible they wouldn’t switch the politician anyway. Plus, any blunder by another good player, even unintentionally, such as a drunk player belligerently insisting on their info being correct, or even something like a philosopher accidentally making a key role drunk and then fumbling the use of the power (eg, if Holly had actually permanently made John drunk, and he guessed right, while she continually guessed wrong) can prevent you switching, even if you try hard to tank for your team. If Laurie recruits Ivan and tries to convince him to play for evil, the best course of action for Ivan is still to our that info, and still try to win with good. If Laurie has lied to him, and he leads the charge to try and execute a good player Laurie has told him is evil, he probably wins with evil, whereas if Laurie tells him the truth, he probably wins with good. Ivan’s most interesting play may have actually been to effectively pick ANYONE in the circle, say have a private conversation with them, say “they just told me they were the widow, that they knew I was the politician, tried to convince me to play for evil, and I said I would… they told me the evil team, which I’ve confirmed with them, but I want to win with good. Here’s who we need to execute. The only thing I’m not sure of is if they are lying about their roles. But we can safely execute all 3” if they buy it, it’s highly likely he switches roles, and on the off chance he guesses right, he still wins with good.

​@@lukehbwhile those are certainly viable, I will say that personally I feel like it's always more fun to be lenient with the Politician and reward a conserted effort if evil wins, because if you're too stringent with allowing a Politician turn it just discourages the temptation to try in the first place. But then, I just overall prefer to enable players to make use of their ability if possible, so that's just the kind of Storyteller I am. You're absolutely right all of those reasons *could* be used as justifications against the turn, and at least some I could see Ben using. So y'know, your point still stands.

SPOILERS!!! Ah, bad luck evil team - they played a good game. Laurie was basically confirmed as Ogre, Dom had virtually no suspicion on him until that final day, Sully had the suspicion of a the village idiot bluff, Ivan drew attention to the village idiots and put suspicion on Sully, and the ‘Blair as a marionette plan’ was such an excellent plan that would’ve worked amazingly if only it had happened the day before. Unlucky, good game.

So it could be townsfolk, outsider, townsfolk, minion, etc. Also means it can get information past 4 nights, if it lasts long enough.
