Those programs changed my life . Supermarkets where different places back then . People cant deny that Jamie changed people's outlook on food and now me and my mates are all parents we will show our kids how to cook. Cheers Jamie .

Jamie Oliver is a living proof that a person may have a person to look up to, that are younger. I met "The Naked Chef" when I was 34, and I never looked back ever since. On my shelf are 97 cook books, and 12 of them are Jamie Oliver (one duplicate, as I have"The Naked Chef" in english and my own language). No points for guessing which author I keep coming back to :-) Cheers Mr Oliver. I 'll be there in 20 years to congratulate you on the 40 year anniversary. Love from Denmark.

When he talks about how it was uncommon to get balsamic vinegar and sun dried tomatoes in the supermarket, I genuinely think Jamie Oliver WAS that change. Its hard to overstate the effect he had on British food culture and IMO our overall culture in many ways. Look back at TV chefs at the time and it was people cooking complicated or stodgy British food or impractical dishes with fastidiously measured ingredients. Having a young kid with a positive attitude talking about a bit of this and a handful of that changed the game completely. Sharing simple and replicatable chef tricks without pretentiousness or fussiness which he brought into our homes made it accessible. Give it a try, doesn't matter if it goes wrong, stick a bit of that in there, if you don't like that then leave it out and happy days; brought people into the show and him into their kitchens. It just wasn't how people cooked on TV before Jamie. Then later the school meals campaigns and education about sustainability etc.... just an incredible contribution to this country's culture. There's a reason EVERYONE has or has had at least one Jamie Oliver book, everyone. I thank you Jamie from the bottom of my heart. Watching The Naked Chef age 13 is the reason I love cooking and I am in awe of your pure love of food, curiosity to keep learning and sharing it all with anyone and everyone in the world. You are a genuine national treasure and I hope they give you a knighthood. Try to cut down on the chilis though hey, save some for the rest of us.

The Naked Chef books are still the ones I use the most. The recipes are always something I can do and yet there is always something in it that I would not think of and that makes it so much better. Usually that bit has to do with the seasoning, I think Jamie is a master at that. Hence I am not surprised by the nutmeg story.

My food journey started with that television series and that book. Still got it, it's a little worse for wear, but still love browsing through it. To this day, the pork belly, couscous (salad and spicy), slow-cooked lamb shank and pickled chillies recipes (or versions thereof) are staples in my house. Legendary in my eyes. He got/gets a lot of stick but, honestly, he must be one of the few chefs that really turned the world of home-cooking around.
