No, you don't have to. Only the wall plug has to be on but the UPS does not for the batteries to charge.

How long do you get to work using this UPS ? I'm curious as I am looking at a standard pc with wifi router.

Hi, you will likely get 2 hours, maybe up to 3 hours of usage out of the UPS (depending how much power you use) when it is new. However it has lead acid batteries (same as in a gate motor or home alarm system), which don't have a very long lifespan unfortunately. You will likely only get about an hour uptime after 2-3 months, and even less uptime after that. Remember that this is a UPS and not a power backup system. 1 option is to replace the batteries once they have reached the end of their lifespan, with 12v 7ah lithium ion batteries as they have much better lifespan (I'll be doing this in a future video soon).

I have the same one put 12x7ah batteries on it and it runs my 40 inch tv smart box and internet for 4 hours then it's pretty much dead.

If the ups is on charge should there be any LED lights displayed ?

Hi, if the UPS is on then yes. If the UPS is off at the button, then no lights will show even if there is power and the UPS batteries are charging.
