I have a 30 Luger that was made in 1914. It was changed to 30 at the end of the great war. I have to say that the Luger has always been a favorite of mine. It's become my carry gun.

Late comment. I'm in the firearms industry as a gunsmith and machinist and I was a general machinist before that. The reason there are no reproduction 32 round snail drums is cost. It would require a substantial investment to create the dies to make them and to reverse engineer them. Probably hundreds of thousands of dollars at minimum. The cost of the magazines would probably be close to if not more than originals. After a certain cost is reached for an item, the market will no longer bear it and sales are too limited to make it a sustainable venture. The demand for the magazines is fairly limited. That's why they're not being made.

I've been using two Mec-Gar mags in my Luger, and they have worked extremely well. They even drop free, unlike the three original Luger mags I've used.

I use the edge of the shooting bench to help load my Luger magazines.

I got two MecGar Luger mags for my DWM and they both drop free just slightly from the mag catch under recoil and I get failures to feed and have to re-insert the mag each shot. Im going to have to take a close look at the cutout on the MG mags, because the factory mag works perfectly. But it's a wooden base w/ matching serial number so I really hate using it since the gun is all matching.

I am not a great luger p08 fan but I have one made in the interwar period and it likes hot ammo. American ammo in 9mm is weak compared to original 9mm euro military ammo. Luger designed the pistol to work with what was feed to it. Strong steel core, steel case ammo. The p08 is one of those firearms that has two faces: a dependable military pistol with hot ammo, and a pain in the butt with weak ammo.

If you want a reproduction with an aluminum bottom then look at either gun parts corp or apex gun parts. I haven't bought one yet and the only draw back is that it only fits with 7 rds, but Im guessing that is because the spring is so strong. My toggle isn't catching an I'm pretty sure its either the hold open latch or the spring. But it could be the magazine as well. Hopefully I can get it working great.

for reloading magazines, try use universal tool for maitenance. when original magazine is in good condition, reloading is hard like on new one

Have you considered swapping the original hold open spring with a repro one?

They make reproduction 32 round snail drums, they come up on Gunbroker occasionally about $700

From my own experience when I used 124 gr. ammo the toggle would usually lock open after the last round. When I used 115 grain ammo the toggle would usually not lock open after the last round.

I tried 124 grain bullets. They didn't hold back the toggle either

I have an all matching numbers 1939 Mauser made one, and I shoot the crap out of it and even sometimes use it for my EDC. Why? Because it’s mine and I can. Don’t worry about the Mec Gar magazines holding up or the gun either. They both will. Unlike many modern guns and even the beloved 1911 the Luger doesn’t have a lifetime round count number. As long as the springs are good it will keep shooting forever. One of the advantages that the Luger had in the trenches was if you got mud in the barrel and fired it the barrel would bulge but it would still continue to function. If the same thing happened with a 1911 it would hopelessly lock the slide and you were left holding a scrap iron club at best. Many of the original Swiss Lugers made almost 120 years ago are still in regular use. If your worried about it get a replacement spring set including new mag springs for the original, replace them and preserve the originals.

Ottokis Legacy nice, does the weight ever bother you? A all steel frame Luger is a lot heavier than modern plastic firearms.

Why carry a valuable, borderline irreplaceable gun and expose it to body sweat, salt and general day to day grime, when you could carry a modern polymer gun that carries more ammo, is infinitely more reliable, and a hell of a lot less expensive? I love my luger, but I don't want it going to handgun hell sitting in an evidence locker for years should I (God forbid) actually have to use it.

LeadTheBore that’s why you pay for conceal carry insurance but that’s a conversation for another day but in my case I live in California and I carry my Luger too, now I personally carry it because I can shoot it a thousand times better than my sig which is a shame I do like the sig and I wanted to carry it but it didn’t feel right, but the Luger it naturally fit my hand like a glove like it was made for me, so I went with it instead and I never regretted the decision.

The issue with not having the toggle hold open on the last shot is probably the hold open spring is broken or worn out. Or the hold open is missing. It is located just above the magazine well in the receiver.

The original magazine floor plates were made from wood, plastic isnt too far off from original.

Original mags were made with plastic as well. Started around 1941 I believe.

Buddy of mine has a couple of these magazines and it seems they don't want to properly fit in the mag well. They get stuck about 2/3s the way in and cant go in any further. Anyone know anything about that?

Hey on my po8 those mecgar mags will unlock and fall out under recoil do you have any idea if that is a problem with something with the gun or the mag?

Do these magazine work for .30 cal as well? I can't find any magazine specifically listed for .30 Cal Luger.

YES THEY ARE A BLAST TO SHOOT. I THINK THEY DON'T MAKE THEM (pistols) LIKE THIS ANYMORE, SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL AND A MECHANICAL MASTERPIECE TO MARVEL AT. MINE LOCKS BACK EVEY TIME WITH MY MEC-GAR MAGS.
