One of the few games focusing on the Federation side that does not include a Gundam of any sort. Just an elite squad of pilots in GM-type suits. I wish they had done this more often... GMs rarely have a chance to shine like this.

@@kitexz4727 In theory. Usually it gets thrashed like in Gundam 0080. It is my favorite mobile suit, but aside from the White Dingoes Sunrise just loves giving the poor suit the L over and over.

This game has a surprising amount of effort put into it. Usually, this is reserved for Zeon centric stories but we sorely need more Federation representation.

This was a great review and showing of this game. As I have no easy access to playing it myself, it was great to see the game and story summarized here. I loved this game when I was still playing the Dreamcast. That GM Cannon MP was so dang good. Those dual MGs does respectable DPS and the dual cannons are great when your enemies are distracted, stunned or down, dealing a lot of damage to them. I also liked the characters, they actually dealt with issues in a professional manner and didn't have that teenage drama problem that comes with most gundam stories. They dealt with the intelligence officer issue quite well too.

If you like this game, I highly recommend MS Sensen 0079 for the Wii. It’s effectively a refined take on Rise from the Ashes with the wealth of content found in games like Encounters in Space. It has campaigns for both factions, each with two different routes, on top of an Ace Pilot mode, Survival mode, Versus mode, and co-op mode. I’ve been playing it for the past few weeks, and it’s a gem for Gundam fans.

The BIO Weapon was carried on the sub from California Base and the stolen Feddie Beam Cannon on the train. If you let it escape it will be equipped to the Rhinoceros. The Doms that attack Torrington Base are part of the Zeon team that has the BIO Weapon.

My dad somehow managed to secure a Japanese Dreamcast and a copy of this game late in 98 or maybe very early 99. It must have been one of if not the first exposure to any Gundam media I had. I remember being 5 or 6 years old and absolutely loving this game, despite the fact I had no idea what anybody was saying and the controls were pretty unforgiving. Sadly as I got older I had to make the painful choice to exclude my father from my life due to some toxic behavior, but I often revisit this game to remember the good times we had together when I was young.

One thing you missed out is that by letting the train go would give the rhinoceros the beam cannon, if you destroyed it then it wouldn’t have that but a normal cannon.

This game! I have been cursing out almost all gundam games since for not having the feel and effort put into them like this had. Too many make the MS feel floaty and light.. this has that heavy mech feel.

I’ve only played Gundam games on the PS2 and this game reminds me of Zeonic Front. I like the cut scenes in this game compared to Zeonic Front though. Thank you for the thorough review of this game compared to other review videos I’ve seen over the years. Oh one last thing. SIEG ZEON!!! ✊

Easily the best gundam game purely for being first person. But it's also a good game beyond that. Wish there was a Zeon version too, I know Zeonic front but that's a very different game.

@@Wzrd8 There actually is, but they never exported it. MS Sensen 0079 for the Wii has both a Federation campaign and a Zeon campaign, both with two different routes depending on how you perform. It also incentivizes further playthroughs by allowing you to capture enemy MS by headshotting them after you beat the campaign once for that faction. On top of this, the game has an Ace Pilot mode, a Survival mode, a Versus mode, and an Extras mode to view MS, listen to music, and check your records. In short, MS Sensen 0079 is an evolved take on Rise from the Ashes with point-and-shoot controls and a similar amount of content to Encounters in Space. If you have not tried it, do so.

My first and favorite gundam game to date. I can beat the game in less time than this video runs. Looks like you didnt learn to dash into the side or rear of the enemy ms to tip them over. You can get 1 or 2 saber slashes in while they get up. Never mentions that in the game. You can tap fire with the vulcans to speed their fire rate up. You wont swap weapons if you jump, so you can use that as an evasive move and fire while jumping and pulling back. When locked on, you can lightly tilt the analog stick to lead the target. On the 3rd mission, it does not fail if you miss the gaw. In fact, after it leaves the area, you can cross the white boundary to end the stage with a different cutscene. The ending will vary if you shot down the gaw or not, and if you cross the line to end stage or whipe the 3 zakus. A few stages have variable endings 2. Train stopped or not, visch shot down or not. 3. Gaw as mentioned, crossing boundary 4. Media cargo saved or not 5. Helicopter 9. Hlvs Not to mention, cutscenes will show your unit+weapon choice and any damage done. The game wnd will also be effected by these stages and player choices. Fun fact, like blue destiny, there were 3 games originally planned. 2nd game set after the beginning of 0083 as part of the torrinton reinforcements. The 3rd set in the zeta/zz era. However due to the short life of the dreamcast the games were canceled and development shifted to the ps2. The original Japanese version had internet functionality. Could download the ex options the usa version had included, but also contained a leaderboard. Sadly its long shut down. There is also a bonus disc for the Japanese version. Its not too hard to find, but you need a save from the jpn version. There is also the bandai best version, which has the vs rx 78 but lacks the galleries from the bonus disc. That jpn version also has the ex options included on disc, so probably the better option if you arent stuck to playing the english version. Do note, the english/japanese version saves will overwrite each other but are not compatible, so use a different vmu slot to save them. The voice actors should be familiar to some. Fang 2, 3 and oasis are still in tons of anime dubs to this day. Wendy lee and steve blum did this before they did the dub for cowboy bebop. Visch donahue is the va for sanders in 08th team.

*4:19* in my opinion, these two are the equivalent to a T29 Pershing (RX-78), and M4 Shermans (RGM-79). Maybe its because i think its more appropriate to class them as ground units, though, its a pretty nice take :)

Just a general thought. Gundam is full of giant, towering robots, mobile armours and spaceships, I wonder why we still have infantry in the series? Honestly, what the heck can they do against all those huge enemy combatants?

It is pretty easy once you figure out the basics. I sometimes would put the game on hard difficulty and do melee only just as a challenge.

this game, of all the gundam games i've played from this era, has to be the worst. the controls are the biggest issue out of anything. a good gundam game, granted, released later down the line, is Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam.
