Mechabellum - Overlords Back in Town?!

I'm drn and this is our fourth game in this week's tournament! We're off to a solid start with tanks and snipers as a scaling comp bolstered by Giant Specialist, can we stomp our way to victory with the big boy mechs?

Agreed, it’s the best mechabellum analysis I’ve found so far. Most of the more popular streamers seem to prefer meme builds, likely as they’re fun to watch and easier to talk about

People say this. But AA marksmen pop them so easily. And you can drop 3 level 2 marksmen for 600, 500 with elite specialist. They're a good spam response to them.

@@erikvale3194true a very good response, everything has counters of course but good chaff really delays marksmen and Overlords can bring their own with mothership

Stormcallers definately shouldn't be up for sale. Empwould disable the Melting Point range and disengage the beam, allowing your overlords more time to carry. At least. They would if your opponent had more time :P

True, was just worried if they got Crawler Production online on them then our Stormcallers would never get to hit the actual Melting Points but I guess their fire would help in that situation anyway. Was just glad we ended it before their scaling got out of hand. Lesson of the day for me: Never give your opponents time to catch up, if you have lethal - go for it!

Drone, I see you're Mechabellum videos go back to what I believe were the "good old days". If I may ask without creating a mild flame war with other viewers, what are your opinions on the mid match unit deployment cards? Additionally If you're positive toward them I would also like to ask as to why? Don't worry I'm not looking to pick a fight, just genuinely curious as to opinions of the better players in the community as well as those that have a reach/voice.

Think the free unit cards were crazy strong when they were first introduced - see my "Level 9 Rhino?!" video from the day the patch landed. They caused a massive meta upheaval which I can understand upsetting folks and quite agree they defo needed a lot of balancing. Throwing them onto Live the 2 days before Chinese New Year and then scarpering for two weeks was a bit irresponsible, even if the idea was for a bit of holiday fun by the devs they were insanely strong. Don't think they were really aimed at the top of the ladder players but they do seem to favour high skilled players. Where those players can identify both what their board needs, and what their opponent's board needs from the limited choices. Think the cards were introduced more to encourage newer players to try units out that they didn't really use much, and to prevent people just blindly following the same builds over and over. Which had become quite common with War Factory rush and Overlord blitz styles at the time. For me they're a fun addition which kept the game from feeling stale after playing for so long. It was a big change so can totally empathise with people who didn't enjoy them, particular for those first few weeks where their power level was off the charts, but being honest I quite like them. Sometimes I just need that hail Mary unit drop when I'm getting beaten badly! :D

At 8:50 in the video you drop another overlord citing that he hadn't countered them yet, but isn't that what the melting point unlock was for in the last round? any insight for a newer player is appreciated!

The Melting Point was there but I did't really see it as a hard counter to our Overlords until it was backed up by range and solid chaff clear. Otherwise the Overlord can just cruise on through killing everything in their way far faster than the Melting Point does. Late game 4-6 MPs will probably outscale 4-6 Overlords but will still struggle with chaff that the Overlords wouldn't have a hard time chewing through by comparison. Hope that makes sense!

The starting Sledgehammers have finally come out of hiding and out to play! Two games in a row with starting marksman and tanks, i know verity is good, but so is that opening. Too good to pass when it comes around in a ranked setting. With the draw round and that last one being as a tick or two away from melting points hitting the breaking points, i disagree slightly, it was teetering on the tables turning for a round, which would have bought a turn and allowed the oil to come back online. Don't know if it would have been too little too late but could have give them time either get the melting points more chaff or something else on the board get them on your Overlords quicker. Another great game! Always loving it. Edits are on point, never felt like I missed something. Commentary and talking your thoughts out was perfect. Always aiming to be humble. Thanks! Felt like a much closer game than the score line suggested at the end, really did feel our opponent was getting closer and closer to getting to the scaling pay-off point.
