Bedding in new pads *properly* is key and the reason many people think they have warped rotors
@kkuenzel568 ай бұрын
I wish technicians didn't smear all of that antiseize on hubs and rotor faces. Ii it unnecessary and makes a mess. Just lightly coat the inside of the wheel pilot hole.

did you bother to check the runout on the hub itself? its prolly out a few thou
@bibleboywonder554710 ай бұрын
So correct me if I’m wrong but that much anti-seize on the hub and rotor can cause the rotor not to fully seat when you put the wheel on and torque it bc it’s supposed to use the friction/clamping force to prevent the rotor from moving in between the hub and wheel, I’ve been told that if you’re gonna anti-seize the hub you only put it on the inner ring of the hub where the rotor seats on to it. It just seems like a safety concern for me

@@cefb8923 no dude.. I habe been line technician for more than 12 year.. brake jobs on book hour are max 2.0 hrs.. costing around 250-300 when it's a complicated car.. You can't lose 1 hour just scrapping rust like the last video.. you can not lose another hour just che king if the brand new rotor the provider gave you is straight... Im not convinced. Why only use 3 lug nuts? Were they impacted on before, or just tightening?
@CarsandCoding10 ай бұрын
Small rotors like Honda civic will warp easily if wheel lug nuts are overtorqued. Audi not as much, but can happen.

I see 3 thou but hey still better than throwing Chinese rotors on. I recently did my wife’s car with drilled and slotted rotors from eBay. They lasted 2 months and now are wavy as all hell already.

Unless you're married to Danica Patrick I'd stay away from slotted and definitely drilled rotors.
@njmxjunkie312810 ай бұрын
@@hotprop92 no. Drilled and slotted rotors absolutely help performance. They keep things MUCH cooler. I drive her car often, she may not be Danika Patrick but I certainly drive much more aggressively than your average driver.

Too bad today's rotors don't take well to a turning, especially on German cars. They might be good for a couple thousand miles, but end up warping soon after. I had the stealsrship turn the fronts on my '13 Audi S7 when I bought it due to obvious warping (plenty of meat on the rotors, never been turned before), and after a couple thousand miles, they're as bad or worse than when I bought the car.

Wonder if the results would be different with the 5 bolts installed. Any clue on what the torque is with the impact? Wonder if you hit them gently all the way around, then hard at last, If that makes a difference.

Have never had this problem on my ol' 72 Chevy C-10... Has big castle nut in the center to tighten down the rotor on the bearings, one inboard, one outboard. The spec calls for 100 ft lbs on steel wheels. Since I run American Mags, I torque no more than 80 ft lbs per lug. 5 lugs x 80 = 400 ft lbs total clamping pressure. That's more than enough torque for the big nut driving it! 😳
