My gaming hyperdrive mode regenerates my cells at such an insane rate that my residue has gunked up tens of controllers. My sheer presence heats up the house and degrades every surface I contact, staining it with my residue. Don't let me in your house. Ever since I switched to my Eswap X Pro I've never had to deal with a gunked up button again. The microswitches are just as clicky as the day I got it, and I do game pretty regularly. In contrast I would have gone through several Dualshocks in the span of time I've used the X ESwap.

Dude I bought the wolverine ultime years ago now, it was mostly because of your reviews, and damn did that controller become my favorite controller ever really quick, I've oppended it up several times to mod it, used a metalic tape to get rid of the pre travel in all the buttons, took the vibration motors off (and put them back on months later lol) and replaced the thumbstick caps because they wore down as time went on, hours playing have been spent on it, time past and sadly it has started to fail, stickdrift, some double click issues and the rubber is falling appart. I've had other controllers since then, but none of them come close to the feeling I get from the Wolverine ultimate, the responsiveness of the buttons, the smooth roll on the original thumbsticks and those 6 extra buttons wich are so comfortable for me, even the size is so fitting, I've now gotten some thumbsticks to swap the old ones, got some griptape to cover the part that's falling appart and I'm only missing the surface mounted switches but to be honest I am worried that I might screw up the soldering, I've done projects like this before even in controllers too, only that time I didn't care about the Razer Raiju molbile (it's so uncomfortable when it has a giant brick of a phone on top) and man all I wanna say is thank you because you pushed me to get my favorite controller ever with your videos, and honestly I couldn't be happier that I got so much enjoyment out of it. I'll try my best to firstly overcome my fear and then getting it into good condition, because there's just no controller that I've seen that comes close to it... They don't make them like they used to anymore.

@richardhunter97796 ай бұрын
They are just copying what Nintendo does without understanding. Tact switches have no overtravel - they are metal dome switches, when the dome collapses, it actuates. So Nintendo puts a rubber dome on top to make it more tactile, provide overtravel, dust protection, and more reliable clicking. However, microswitches (as found in mice) already have overtravel and more reliable clicking. Adding more just makes the button press heavier and mushier.
@xaytana6 ай бұрын
Conceptually, there's a few hypotheticals, where actual implementation otherwise is a success or failure. One seems to be adjusting switch weight, which can outright be seen and is less of a hypothetical; and really switch weight is a matter of preference, some people like heavier and some people like lighter, there's also argument for momentum but microswitches are a bit short for that. Stemming from the previous, pre-actuation and full-travel distances, given a spring or membrane will make an otherwise very short switch a bit taller; and this again is a matter of personal preference, and again is a bit less of a hypothetical as this is seemingly what some companies are intending to do. Another seems to be for stability, which seems to be hit or miss, FlyDigi's design seems to be solely for stability by utilizing material properties and surface area, and theirs seems to be one of the better implementations; you even reference mice yourself, but you didn't reference how the plastic buttons over the switches are massive paddles that are almost universally stable in design, I have yet to find a mouse that has a wobbly left or right button. Stemming from the previous, they're used as a better return mechanism than what the spring-back of the microswitch itself is capable of; again referencing mouse main buttons, those paddles are also a return mechanism, quite literally what they're designed for since any lever advantage is nonexistent or minimal, they're just one big flexure to return a button press to button neutral no matter what the spring-back of the switch under them is. The final one I can think of is to add a tactile event, microswitches aren't tactile in the slightest outside of the psycho-acoustic effect the click provides; which at least tries to emulate what Razer does with their mecha-tactile switches, though Razer does use a different assembly entirely from what I remember seeing in what sparse teardowns exist for the controllers that use them. Then of course, dust protection, etc., which could be hypothetical or objectively utilized, dust ingress on a controller is next to none unless you have years of skin cell shed jamming the buttons via side friction; over-travel could be an interesting aspect to look at, in all of theoretical design, implementation, and preferred feel of switches, but I don't think most people would notice over-travel especially when these buttons are already being mashed on, though switch protection and/or longevity could be an interesting point to look at here. These various aspects have even been seen in what Gulikit did with their springboxes, though those were on top of a carbon contact rubber dome, but the same points still apply; and I only know of one controller that went as far as using keyboard MX style switches for these purposes, the Sunwaytek Syozen Z2, and we all know how keyswitches already provide a solution for this entire topic. There's argument to be had for a company, or even a designer/engineer, looking for a specific switch feel, though more often than not the final implementation is just jank at best or its overcomplicated assemblies, or the combination of the two; for an analogous example to this argument, look at the keyboard switch market and the variety it provides, though that comes down to personal preference more than it does the designer wanting to put out one specific feel. Though I do also have a few thoughts extending from the use of keyboard switches and the wider market, but that's an entirely different conversation. Though arguably it'd be a fix for what all of these companies are trying to attempt while also simplifying things, having wider options, and being more economic long-term with likely quick returns if it catches on, which it otherwise should especially with how influential the customer and reviewer bases are now. All via borrowing keyswitches and minimizing their footprint, 2D footprint is the major concern considering we already have LP and ULP switches on the market, to better fit gamepads, mice, and non-traditional keyboards, while also still being usable within traditional keyboards. Plus consumers could have their preferred feel, rather than companies doing dumb things that may or may not work and may or may not make sense to do. But market shenanigans just don't make sense to me; but also imagine taking what the custom keyboard market has done for the hobby community, which is now quickly becoming more and more mainstream and with cheaper offerings, and apply that to the gamepad community- we've already started seeing this with mice, we've even seen hotswap mice for a good couple years, I think it's time for gamepads to have their moment in customizability.

As everything is getting taxed in my country right now and standard ps4 and ps5 controllers are way cheaper than any trust worthy Gamesir seller unfortunately, missed my chance of buying the t4 last year and now is like 30% more expensive than the original ones. But my question is: is it worthy at this price still?
@vCuda6 ай бұрын
If the sellers aren't trustworthy, a warranty claim may be more difficult to come by. Since the manufacturer, in this case GameSir, usually asks where the device was purchased and if there was a receipt. Sometimes, people are denied warranty claims based on the location purchase, I'm not $100 sure if GameSir does, but it could happen. That, paired with a +%30 price hike make it difficult to recommend since you may not have coverage in an emergency

I find I too easily push through it compared to my battlebeaver mouse click triggers which feel amazing but the hall sticks of the apex 4 feel great. Also wish the apex 4 had the same back buttons as battle beaver / HYPR controllers. the apex 4 back buttons are not great placement wise imo. Thanks for the great videos! super helpful as always.

They use software deadzones to be "anti drift" take it away and we have what vCuda has already defined as stick drift in previous vids. Sadly, there will never be a "perfect" controller by my standards. It would have to have a D pad like the one Razer uses, good read buttons/paddles, and support for PS5 style resistive triggers/haptic feedback. Playstation only allows for that in their first party controllers, and they will never have a Razer style d pad dish, so it'll never happen, oh well.

A custom peripheral is also an option, though wanting DualSense features makes this a ballache as you'd have to borrow the DualSense's microcontroller. Everything would otherwise be borrowed, would it not? Essentially a kitbash of controllers.

Xbox is supposedly releasing a controller with "adaptive triggers" and should have rear paddles as well...I don't think you'll be getting the razer style d pad though lol
@xaytana6 ай бұрын
@@UONeal It's unlikely that Xbox and PlayStation adaptive triggers will be cross-compatible, at least not until they decide to standardize the haptic ecosystem. I also doubt that third party solutions, like what FlyDigi does will be included in this, again at least until things are standardized. I'm not entirely sure if HID has the overhead for advanced haptics like this, at least for generic devices that don't point to a supplementary driver for advanced functionality, I haven't really looked into that portion of HID; though the Steam controller did have an early haptic engine from ALPS under the Cirque pads, Cirque themselves recommended the haptic engine on earlier revisions of their circle pads, and the SC was a fully generic HID software-composite device, so there may be hope that the future of advanced haptics is just dead simple to implement. It could be another couple generations before then, we might see a patent troll or two skin to what late gen6 and early gen7 experienced. Though what's wanted here won't happen for some time, and by that time Sony will likely be a few implementations ahead of Microsoft once again.
