If your transmission pan doesn't have a drain plug and you want one , you can get a universal transmission drain plug from TCI . I got the TCI 805800 and all you have to do is drill a half inch hole and install. Easy to do yourself I ordered mine from Jegs.
@RockinProfessor2 жыл бұрын

Is any adhesive or fluid necessary to properly apply the gasket... Or is it really that simple...just slap it on there and screw it on 🤔
@MechanicLife3 жыл бұрын
With that style of gasket it was that easy. With a rubber gasket I always use a thin layer of rtv in addition to the gasket.
@mr.e-barsmathtricks24902 жыл бұрын
I saw that you didn't use any kind of glue paste to the pan before placing the gasket. Is it necessary? I had mind done by a mechanic who comes to people's homes to do the jobs. My car is still leaking oil. I didn't see him setting the wrench to a particular pound amounts, as you did yours to 12 pounds. He also changed my regular motor oil gasket and the pan; he also used the glue paste, and it still leaks; he actually changed that motor oil pan and gasket 3 times, it still leaks, not as much, but still does from one of the corners. I don't want him to go through the same thing and change the transmission gasket several times. I'm just going to look for a different mechanic. It appears that he doesn't know what he's doing. I'm not a mechanic nor handy, but his results speak for themselves What do you think, or anybody else who is nice enough to read my post? Thank you all.Blessings.
@MechanicLife2 жыл бұрын
With my configuration and gasket additional RTV wasn't required and in some cases can cause a leak. Every pan has specific torque specs and a pattern to put each bolt on. You can over torque or under torque them otherwise which will cause a leak. I think your correct in your gut instinct. It doesn't sound like they know what they are doing. The oil pan is no different. It has specific torque specs for each bolt and a pattern to put them into place.

You don’t have to wait to add fluid when you use a gasket. There’s nothing curing. You can add fluid immediately. It’s when you use sealer, you want to wait 24 hours. Some people say 12, but doing this daily, I’ve learned thats usually too early.

My trans pan has 18 bolts and the owner's manual calls for a threadlocker. I purchased new bolts from the dealer cause the old ones are completely rusted. I thought the new bolts would come with a dry coat of blue threadlocker pre installed but they didn't. I have two options, loctite 248 stick or loctite 243 liquid. If i use the liquid form, isn't that going to go all over the place. I feel like the loctite would just leak down onto the gasket and ruin the seal. If I use the stick, I only have about 5 min fixture time. Would I even have enough time to hand tighten 18 bolts and then torque them to spec in a criss cross pattern. I read that if you hand tighten a bolt with loctite, it will immediately start to cure but if i then torque them 5 minutes later it could ruin the bond. I'm working with a floor jack in a tight space. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@stevosteve Жыл бұрын
He couldnt drain the oil because the 700R4 OEM pans do NOT have any drain plug. You can purchase after market pans that doo have a drain plug, but dint hut a pan with a drain plug on the bottom because they get get knocked ofc by road debris, if you feel the need to have a drain plug only buy a pan with a drain on the lower SIDE edge.

Yes with the vehicle off. Make sure that you add the proper amount of fluid. Turn the vehicle on and then run it through each gear. That will force fluid into all of the components that need fluid. Then check the level on the dipstick with the vehicle in park with the vehicle running.
