For all it’s limitations, it has proved to be an invaluable learning tool for me. Many years after its introduction the 1008 as far as I know, is still the one and only unit providing this utility anywhere near this price. In 4+ channel scopes at around $12 USD per channel, can any other manufacturer touch it? Great choice as a introductory scope. It’s not the end of the world if you blow it up…I have been lucky to own a range of scopes. I am still partial to the 1008’s simplicity. In reality most users will seldom use more than 2-3 channels, let alone 8. But nice to have when called for. Cheers Darren. Good Vid 👍

Yeah I can’t argue with that, it’s a great place to start in the world of scoping. 12bit vertical resolution. Maybe they could have sacrificed 4 of the channels for a bit more sample rate, they would have been on to a winner! Especially with HScope. Was interested to see how it handled 8 channels! Cheers 👍

I work in automotive design and have access to really good scopes at work, but for my home use I bought it as it was good enough to read PWM frequencies, Duty cycles, and mine came with 2 current probes. It's definitely not for professional use, but for people working on their own cars, a really good bargain, and a way to learn something while troubleshooting some basic stuff. Can't imagine running it on 8ch at the same time. Usually single, sometimes maybe 2. You getting what you paid for.

Enjoy your channel. If you got a chance there don’t seem to be many videos on Hantek’s 4 channel auto scopes. The 6104BE at 100mhz, 1Gsa/sec, for example, I think would be a good one for you to review. Especially if you could try it with Hscope or an open source software. Yeah it’s way more money than Hantek’s 8 channel but when you look at its bandwidth and sample rate I think it might be a better deal. Of course Pico makes a 4 channel 100mhz scope, but they get a bit spendy.

I have a Ver good question for you ......the hantek 1008 is rated for 400 volts max aside ignition coil testing .. taking that nothing else on the Gas or diesel engines exceeds 120 volts which would only be injectors that exceed 20 volts as every thing else is in the rage of 5-18 volts to taking in the max input on the 1008 is 400 volts why would I need to use a 20:1 attenuator ??? I have actually connected mine up to all 8 diesel Pezo injectors at 110volts each to test trigger voltage with out the use of a 20:1 or any special probe so why do I see every one using the 20:1 ........ and the snap on otc Autel Thinkcar Scopes they are all rated at 200-1000 volts and with them never needed any special connection for voltage either they don't even sell or mention a 20:1 or there Automotive scopes the only time we need to use any thing special is for ignition spark voltage which can get up to 30k volts or an amp probe/meter for amps over 10-20 amps depending on the scope any ways just looking for better knolledge so why in testing any thing automotive that is under the rated 400 volts of the tool would we need to use a 20:1
@MechanicMindset Жыл бұрын
Quite right, if your oscilloscope can measure the range of what you’re testing, an attenuator isn’t needed. I don’t remember the Hantek going up to 400V though, I’d have to check. I thought it was 50 max. Scopes also show an input protection voltage which is hight than what it can measure. For example, the PicoScope has 20V max with 100V input protection.

Good test, that is about the result I expected from the specs that scope has - but I haven't seen anyone else do that test on this scope. I did initially consider a 1008 when I was looking for a low cost storage oscilloscope, the 8 channels makes it look very interesting on paper - until you realize that the memory buffer is very small, I think it's half of what the Pico 2204A has, and all eight channels has to share, whereas the Pico just has two channels sharing. I ended upp with a second hand Pico, and it does a great job. It still has limitations ofcourse, but among USB scopes for around $150 or less I challenge anyone to find another that gives you anywhere near the same bang for the buck.
@MechanicMindset2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I had heard lots of people talk about the problem with all 8 channels, but no actual evidence; hence the video. I think my signal generator made the task a bit easier! I love the 2204A, if you can deal with the low vertical resolution (or just use the enhancement feature) it will take you far! Thanks
@ulfg14092 жыл бұрын
@@MechanicMindset I think the 8 bit resolution in itself generally is fine, but the low end models (2205A and below) lack DC offset function, and that prevents you from using the vertical resolution properly. For example, if you want to measure automotive battery voltage during engine start/relative compression etc, you need to use the +/-20V range, despite only being interested in the range between approximately +5 and +15V, so 75% of the range is useless. The 8 bit vertical resolution is 256 voltage levels total between -20 and +20V, but only ~64 of them are actually useful in that case. With DC offset (like 2405A model and up has, if I remember it right) we should be able to set our center point at +10V instead of at zero, and just use the +/-5V range. We measure between +5 and +15V, but now we get all 256 levels in that useful range. Instead of ~0.16V each step it is 0.04V, and we see way better detail. Not perfect, but being able to just focus on the relevant voltage range would help a lot.
@MechanicMindset2 жыл бұрын
@@ulfg1409 Great insight to the limitations of 8bit! I like to use AC coupling for voltage relative compression along with some filtering. I will have a play with the DC offset, albeit only have a 4425 to play with. Thanks for sharing!

I was going back and forth between the 1008 for 8 channels vs Pico 2204a....with the 2204a can you test 8 inj one at a time, saving them and then open them up all next to each other to compare? I'm just trying to learn enough to decide what to get lol. Your channel is a huge help! I appreciate it, I'm sure when I buy the scope I'll have to do the membership and learn way more.
@MechanicMindset2 жыл бұрын
You can save them, and open them as reference waveforms or compare them separately. I would just open the 8 files separately. Or you can make a reference of a good injector then test all 8 and compare. The software is probably the main reason I would go for the Pico. The scope spec is ok especially for $100!
