Kuzushi is valuable & often indispensable for a technique to be effective. This is true even for more striking oriented arts. Though the fact that bjj assumes groundwork. Some practicioners justify the focus on groundwork because they say 90% of all hand to hand combat ends up on the ground. But 99.9% of the time they begin standing up. And it can be all over before you ever get to ground. Striking & blocking are easy to practice. But kuzushi sets up the outcome without as much risk of being countered.

“It can be over before you get to the ground “ is a fundamental truth, Judo is so underrated as a self defense martial art. If you’re on concrete or hard surface -it’s literally over when they hit the ground, possibly for life!

do you have tips on how to foot sweep someone who is closing in from out of range? best way to do this without getting into a grapple first.

Do you prefer reaching with the side of the leg forward? I'm just wondering because in wrestling we usually reach with the side of the leg that is back because of concerns of the opponent throwing the arm by or going for a single leg. I'm trying to improve my takedowns in BJU and enjoy your videos.

I'm very tall, 2m/6ft7 so my opponents tend to be shorter than me. They often try seoi nage when I have the high grip. How do you advise me to deal with that?
