100%. I wasn't paying attention to the subtitles and had to rewind to see how they'd translate it. We need to get an RMS dictionary going. I love how "pinche" is something different every time, which is pinche accurate in my book.

Oh man, as a Mexican, I can really say one thing, These guys really are the definition of what in Spanish is called: Talking (swearing) like a mechanic... The handling of their insults to conjugate them as a substitute verb, flirted and wildcard, they really pass almost 100% like a native. And yet they try to control themselves so as not to curse so much, without filters their fluidity would be majestic.

I always figured that it's probably because in families like their families, Spanish is a constant in and around the household. A fair number of foreign parents in America do their best to make sure their children grow up with both English and whatever their native language is so they can be fluent in both languages later. Which would, to me, explain why they speak the language like native speakers and not like tourists who are visiting a Latin country on vacation lmao.

Hey guys! I’m from Colombia and I loved this video. Is not about the language, but on how you connect and feel represented. Making content in Spanish, as well as talking about latino’s car culture is something well overdue in mainstream youtube. ¡Sigan así! espero ver más videos como este, o el de Low-riders. Como diríamos en Colombia, que “chimba”.

Too many haters that are not accepting of doing things differently or change. It’s not like you are going to completely change over to Spanish, it was done as a theme and it makes sense. as another non-spanish speaker, i totally agree with the OP. in fact, i'd say that the episode being in spanish feels like it has a certain zing to it that english doesnt. a ton more future episodes in spanish would probably be over doing it but the occasional episode, done like this one, would be a nice change of pace every so often. variety is the spice of life after all. i could be wrong but it feels like, at some points, they were able to give each other shit far easier and smoother than may have occurred had they been speaking english.

10:59 Project Farm did a video on vegetable oil and found that soybean oil seems to work ok as a lubricant. The only problem was that it does not tolerate cold temperatures--it completely solidifies and does not flow at all. So a few cups of olive oil in an engine is probably not gonna kill it.
@goreyfantod5213
@goreyfantod5213 2 ай бұрын
Olive oil has a low smoke point - it's not as bad as, say, butter, but it's not great. I cook for a living & know next to nothing about cars, but suspect most cooking oils will quickly burn & turn into a carbonized mass in an engine unless the engine has been specifically designed/converted for it. In this case, used motor oil was topped off with plain, NOT extra-virgin or first press olive oil. My hunch is it'll run, but rougher & rougher as the motor oil cooks the olive oil, until whatever burnt chemical bond they've formed has tuned into a semi-solid sludge that seizes the engine. Sort of like sautéing with a mix of butter & canola oil; it raises the butter's smoke point for a little while, but if you keep the heat on, it's going to burn.

3:36 - This is actually an old wiring trick. Using cable tie ends as a filler material to lock in a screw was very common. Especially when securing wire holders into brick/concrete/block without having the proper materials on hand. It can also act as a cheap thread tape or Loctite alternative. The nylon actually has a very high strength ratio and can hold in there quite well. Now I could see doing this if the threads were a bit worn and you need a little extra grip to get started, but if the entire thread is damaged it probably won't last for long here (a good in-the-field fix to know however) 10:13 - Cooking oil would actually work okay for a start and a very short amount of time (like 1-3 minutes), and its not going to do anything really harmful as long as you flush it out of there with good oil before the engine gets up to temperature. As long as the engine is below about 150-200F it will generally provide enough lubrication to not damage anything (especially if it was mixed with real engine oil). The problem is that its too thin at high temperatures, and then at above 300F it will start to burn leaving thick gooey carbon film all over everything. Once that happens you are pretty much looking at a rebuild. But if you drained the cooking oil, topped it off with good oil, then cycled the oil and filter again after you let it run for 30 minutes you'll be good. The detergents in oil will break up any of cooking oil. In fact back in the really old single piston hit & miss engine days corn oil would be used in engines (of course they didn't have our high tolerances either).

Fun fact, canola oil was originally developed as an engine oil replacement as there was concerns about a shortage. Obviously didn't come to pass, but that was the original intent. Don't use canola oil in modern engines... but it shouldn't do any damage just sitting in there

Cubano loko, here….orgullosamente I’ll take all the eye rolls about el legado de los mecánicos Cubanos. Because in my generation, no teníamos herramientas, y mucho menos piezas de repuestas. So we had to invent sht. I’m damn proud of my generations ingenuity. Disclaimer: notice I said “my generation”. I’m in my mid 40’s and I’m talking about the 80’s and 90’s. Where Cubans where known to work (almost)as hard as my Mexican brothers. Now, they can’t even change a tired because their pants are to tight.

My family is from Puerto Rico and I can remember the stories of how in the 60's and 70's Cubans were making things in small shops so that they could keep cars running. Remember seeing photos in the 70's when I was a teenager of 50's cars in Cuba still running around and looking good.

@@Thoridin58 oh the stories I could tell you haha I remember being called spoiled American boy because anytime we were doing a repair, I expected a new part to go in when the old one was pulled out. You had to see what you could weld, glue, hammer, grease or invent before even thinking of the dreaded auto parts store. I remember seeing cars with homemade parts ALL THE TIME. I’m talking about huge elaborate hydraulic set ups(I’m assuming they had access to old airplane parts 🤷🏽‍♂️) replacing all kinds of parts. I remember telling a friend “hey man this is Miami, you don’t have to hold a plastic bottle of gas in your car. You can go buy a replacement gas tank for a few dollars”. Dude looked at me like if I asked him for his wife panties 🤣🤣 one thing I loved was seeing like Toyota parts on an American car or vice versa. You welded, bent, hammered and MADE IT work. That was the best time for us. Unfortunately we are extinct now.

9:09 The girl was laughing in the video of her walking through her house, she knew what she was doing. I'm sure she pranked him and had tape or something blocking the funnel, especially since she started pouring RIGHT when her dad came into view of the engine. She totally pranked him and didn't actually pour any cooking oil into the engine.

My guess was not just that, but also some faked incompetence to make sure he didn't a) pull what my dad occasionally pulls and says "just do X, you're old enough now", as if the motor oil fairy waves its dipstick over your head when you're 14 and you're suddenly imbued with the knowledge of how to refill and/or change the oil on a car. b) forever saddle her with doing oil changes for his cars, her mom cars, and every car in the extended family.

9:37 I was doing work experience at a truck mechanic when I was a lot younger, and they told me to put 28L of oil in the engine we had just drained and replaced the filters on. He made sure I understood 28L (They had these pumps on the big 200L drums that would measure how much had been pumped) and that it should ONLY BE 28L and that it does not mean 'fill it up' because apparently they had an apprentice several years earlier that had 'filled it up' with oil and then the person who was monitoring the apprentice had not checked their work, not even checking the dip stick, cranked it and boom. shot the dipstick out and popped the oil filler cap off. Apparently they had to do a teardown of the engine to make sure none of the seals had been damaged or something.
