Operation Warfighter. an internship program (essentially) for service men and women hospitalized temporarily. gives them stuff to do that actuslly helps the military, and keeps them from sitting around idly in the hospital while they recuperate. awesome concept? yes. but with that in mind, it makes the title seem that much more stupid, given what the game is about

I think my first week working on Medal of Honor: Warfighter I asked what was up with the name, saying it was something akin to "Championship Boxing: Facepuncher". Landmark Zero Punctuation episode. Yahzee doesn't always add personal opinons into his videos, but when he lets his honest to goodness bias come out at the expense of comedy, it shows such a high degree of insight that it's disturbing. The way he described how kids have no idea what a shooter game is was nowadays was honestly quite genuine and refreshing. It's honesty in it's purest form. If you only take one thing from this video, Spunkgargleweewee is perhaps the best. The "Metroidvania" of the modern day, the term for the FPS subgenre encompassing every COD and Battlefield-like FPS game? Flawless👌

Metroidvania is actually also more a modern mass phenomena. The grenre is old but didn't use to be that common, most old platformers are no Metroidvania games but by now the tend to make a much larger portion of the genre.

Man rewatching this 11 years later because I'm replaying BFG edition on my Series S, there really is something here above military shooters still. With new hardware the load times are under 2 seconds (I actually don't like not getting to read the loading screens past the first line) and the biggest gripe I have about the adaptation now is just that it doesn't remove the HUD ammo counter when you hold up a gun that has its own like it did originally. Also that it has sprint be a stick toggle when on Mars, where you have limited stamina, but in Hell, where you find logs about workers not tiring and you have infinite stamina, it goes to a stick HOLD! And icing on the cake there, the stamina bar never undergoes a state change, so it doesn't show up in Hell so you don't get to see the stamina bar in flames to emphasize that either.

OK so I know that my additions are not needed but I wanted to add that the story mode involves a main character has a failing marriage, and several of the other characters make references to Ex-Wives. THAT IS HILARIOUS; that would be like playing metroid with a story line where Samus continues to get phone calls from her Ex-husband that complains that it's her weekend to take the metroid so Brenda and him can go to Sonoma. The Warfighter sequal should be called, "VA Caller", and in it you get in arguments with the Veterans affairs office as to what your benifits cover and in the cut scenes you drink alone in a trailor. Now that would be a realistic military style shooter.

I enjoy the military shooters stuff, but that's never going to be more fun or as ridiculously cool as stuff like Doom, Halo or even Half-Life. I just get more enjoyment when I'm the hero or just some angry fucker fighting an evil and outright fucked up force of darkness/the dark reaches of space that NEEDS to be stopped or else humanity, the universe or even my pet dog are in danger. I just don't like killing millions of unnamed Arabs, Russians, Africans or Europeans for the 12th billionth time.

An interesting opponent is what keeps a shooter interesting for the player. Would I rather hide behind cover picking away at distant enemies or play "Spanish bull fighter" with a Hunter from Halo? It's optional to yell 'ole~' as he barrels past you and finish him with a flourish of a shotgun blast to his exposed back. XD

I actually enjoyed Warfighter's MP. The SP is exactly like he says it, but the MP portion of it emphasizes real gunplay (something you really don't see often anymore), a nice pairing system, and most of the gimmicks like ranking and killstreaks feel so minimal that they don't get in the way of enjoying the great gunplay and decent classes that make the game simple, fun, and it actually takes some decent skill. Also, server lists, something that should be in every shooter by default.

"Realistic" military shooters are fucking bullshit. The day CoD went the modern warfare route is the day shooters died out. Plus, "Warfighter" is the stupidest name I've ever heard for a shooter.

In all fairness modern warfare 1 is quite profound really especially with the nuke moment because it tried something different and spec ops the line tried to create a satire by trying to actually realistic and quite horrifying and make you actually feel bad when you killed people in the game. But it's just where it has been done to death and now become less of a shooter and a more of an active nanny program with guns where the enemies rush at you like your holding their family hostage and have all the brains of a chimpanzee who has just had brain removal surgery

I agree. Though original Delta Force series along with Operation Flashpoint were actually really good realistic FPS games. CoD was never good though. Always fucking shit.

It was the same way with me. Its funny, Yahtzee points out (and is mostly right) how most spunkgargleweewee star "burly white dudes" and villainize people of other nationalities and ethnicities, but most of the guys I knew who liked CoD were Mexicans.

My favorite thing about Modern Military Shooters is how you can just turn your brain off. No thinking, just clicking. Sometimes looking around for keycards, or fighting bosses, or taking difficult fights just takes too much brainpower.
