Yes that's my pattern. I slept well as a child, then as a teen I was left by parents for a week at my friend's house for the first time - just as we were preparing for final exams. I couldn't sleep for days then freaked out about it. Haven't slept well since but was mostly manageable enough that I didn't get paid help - just sleep hygiene and doctor's tips - never been enough. It robbed me of best years of my life as I didn't manage to perform at my best. I hope you don't repeat my major mistake and get professional help earlier!

Please explain "perpetual factors" . I haven't seen an explanation on your next videos , and I need one . Did I miss your description? Does it mean self talk? I know when I dreambadly or worry about next day , I can feel the stinging of rushes of cortisol as stinging in my legs, so I think "here we go again".

This has been very helpful and it will allow me to better discuss my insomnia with my doctor in a few weeks. I'm now 71 years old and have always slept well with only a very few bouts of acute insomnia, but about a year ago all of a sudden I started having chronic insomnia. It was like flipping a switch, all of a sudden, I couldn't sleep a full night. It was encouraging to know that I'm not alone and about 25% of us old folks suffer some insomnia. I don't feel physically tired during the day, but I worry about the effects on my brain health. Thanks for the great video series.

A video addressing chronic illness, pain & sleep would be helpful. Typical sleep hygiene instruction is overly simplistic & frustrating for these patients/clients/people (especially those with long-term sleep disturbance). Addressing diseases & conditions that adversely affect sleep (other than primary sleep disorders) would be very helpful, as well as surfaces the person is sleeping on (hardness, wedges, prescription mattresses, CPAP, etc.) Good video.

I have a hunch that full moons disrupt my sleep, I can begin not sleeping at night and check and sure enough full moon as it wanes I go back to sleeping well. Any thoughts? 78 year old woman noticing since about age 55.

Yes you are very good. To bad they cant get rid of instructors in medicine who cant do it well or with an attitude. Yes there are very smart doctors out there but that doesnt mean they can teach. Just pass the info to someone who can. Why make medicine more stressful then it already often is. You can learn just as well for the love of learning as you can under fear and I believe better.
