History repeats itself, though it happened all too fast and now society has entered a sort of twisted dystopia in 1991! Can you imagine society being like that? Patreon: / mediahunter

16:50 Oof that original ending sounds very grim knowing that everyone is perpetual trapped in a never ending cycle of hate. I get the feeling if that was the ending they went with that would have upset a lot of people. I can understand why they went for a more hopeful ending.

Believe it or not, this was actually the very first Planet of the Apes movie I saw (I watched them all in a very weird viewing order; 4, 1, 3, 5, 2). This one is probably my favorite, mostly because of Caesar and Macdonald and I can appreciate an oppressed people overthrowing their oppressors. In regards to how the apes have "changed their appearance" so quickly, I think its more that the creators want us to suspend our disbelief so much that we believe the ape actors look the same as actual apes. There were a few things from early scripts that I wish they had kept. One is that apparently Breck's anger toward apes was meant to stem from the fact that his "late wife" was killed by one. Another is that originally Caesar was going to be aided by one of the astronauts who'd brought back the pet-killing disease, wracked with guilt that his actions directly led to the enslavement of the apes. Personally, I'm happy they made the ending more optimistic. It gives hope that the ultimate fate of humanity and apes can be different from what we've seen in the first film.

I do feel like you should look into the Tim burton planet of the Apes film at some point.

After reviewing you done Battle of the Planet of the Apes, would you review the 2001 remake and the 2011 reboot film series?

Interestingly, this movie came out at the time comics often made adaptations of films. And because the comic often had to come out around the time the film did, it meant the comic staff got a script ahead of time. So the comic book adaptation of the film has a lot of details cut from the final film, including Aldo playing a much bigger role. Namely showing he senses something about Caesar early on and it's implied Caesar's birth caused changes to the timeline and Aldo isn't away of this, but can tell something is interesting about him. Caesar likewise upon starting his revolt, specifically seeks out Aldo to help him. So the gorilla strapped down and tormented by the word 'No' was indeed supposed to be Aldo. Seems they hadn't quite ironed out which species he was. Splendid review as always though, I love listening to your work during long drives.

Idk, I kinda look at it like Back to the Future. What Cornelius and the rest remember is how history once was, but them going back in time altered the timeline, kinda pushing the events forward quicker, and alternating other events. Granted, yeah, I'll agree, going from pets dying to holding apes as slaves in the matter of 8 years is a bit extreme, I could kinda see something like that happening, just would take longer than 8 years.

My reasoning for why I think the 8 year time frame makes sense is that due to Cornelius and Zira coming back to the past they carried a stronger version of the virus that killed the dogs and cats and caused it to happen way earlier. With the rapid spread of the virus it caused the apes to evolve a lot faster than what happened in the original timeline. And due to these changes it caused Ceasar to become the main reason why the apes took over and not Aldo. It’s just a branch timeline that leads into a similar future.

In all these reviews that I watched, I’m surprised that no one ever mentioned that the colors that the apes wear in this film are the same colors that those ape types wear in the first and so on.

Roddy McDowell always plays such mild-mannered characters, but this movie proves he could have played more bad ass type of characters.

It's hard to believe 1991 was 30 years ago (despite that this 4th movie takes place) and yet, that's when the Cold War ended so far while George H.W. Bush was in the White House!
