Media Hunter - The Mighty Kong Review

Once again, my attempt to review the original King Kong movie has lead me to reviewing something else. It isn't King Kong, but The Mighty Kong! What even is this?

One thing I wasn’t expecting is that this movie actually has a body count There’s the native girl at the beginning (her death is implied by the nature of the ritual) And the 2 people in that car that Kong put onto the train tracks It actually shocked me when those 2 moments happened

It's amazing how the King Kong parody in Underdog ("Fearo the Ferocious") treated the sequence of the giant ape roaming through the city way more seriously than this thing.

Plot hole: How did they get Kong back to New York on a boat that didn't look like it had enough room for him?

They never show they got Kong to New York in the 1933 film.

One thing I never understood in any version of the King Kong story is how the fuck did they get him into the theater 1976 gets a pass since that took place outside but 1933 and 2005 he’s in the mother fucking building

I used to see ads for this video in all my comics and was curious to see it. Now I'm glad I didn't. It sounds like they sucked all the drama out in place of musical numbers. Although having Driscoll actually be a sailor again instead of a reporter or playwright was nice to see again.

King Kong as an animated movie and musical can work but it would take a lot of effort to make it work. This movie failed at it. While Jodi Benson was a great choice for Ann, she’s sadly wasted here. Dudley Moore as Denham is alright. Better than Jack Black though. While Driscoll was kind of sexist in the original, he was more likable than this Driscoll. Overall, if you’re King Kong fan, avoid this movie like the plague.

You said it, everyone's talent was wasted on this. I can't believe the actual Sherman Brothers did this, and they wrote better songs than this. Even Jodi Benson's magical voice can't save these songs.

I won't lie, the song 'Dolly of Papaliali' is a guilty pleasure of mine. I just don't like the visuals & the fact that the song is part of an animated King Kong movie. I personally picture a crossover/collab with Hanna-Barbera characters singing the chorus parts. As for Anne/Dolly's part, that up to the choice of the people.

The fact that this movie got jodi benson and the sherman brothers on board and still failed in the musical department is a testiment to just how mutch of a fail turned out to be(musical Hell)!

hello there media hunter! so i couldn't help but notice your robin hood review from 1973, and there was a film i saw that was released a year after that one. its called kikansha yaemon D51 no daibouken (which means the adventures of kikansha yaemon). could you see about reviewing it after you've seen it? for me, its my favorite.

Well in the original the crew didn't know where they were going either, but they trusted Denham bc the Skipper and First Mate were already acquainted with him. Denham in the original already made some other movies while on a voyage in like jungles and shit. So it makes more sense than here, where he doesn't seem to know any of them...and his latest broadway piece was a failure. and Jack is kind of an ass to Ann at first but he's also much more gentelmenly with her and can say nice things too...and they don't argue as much.

Yeah Denham is kind of an idiot in this movie. Also I don’t see how Ann can fall in love with Jack in this movie. While Jack started off as a jerk in the original, he eventually started treating her nicely. Also why does Kong look like he’s on steroids in this movie?

Seriously. The argument "song" (If you can even call it that) makes A Cut Above the Rest from Beauty & The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (Which came out a year earlier) look like a masterpiece.
