Detailed discussion on anatomy and biomechanics of medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments of knee complex.Medial collateral ligament origins from medial femoral epicondyle and is inserted into tibia.Its made of two portions namely the superficial and deep medial collateral ligaments.The medial collateral ligament is also known as tibial collateral ligament.
The lateral collateral ligament also known as fibular collateral ligament and arise from lateral femoral condlye and inserts into fibula.
MCL provides primary restraint to valgus and LCL to varus stress.
The anatomy,biomechanics of ligaments along with their action and a brief description of injuries and treatments are mentioned.

The MCL resist valgus stress in extended position or semiflexed position at 30degree
@kushmittal36
@kushmittal36 4 жыл бұрын
Please ans this question.. I have confusion regarding it.
@TonysTutorial
@TonysTutorial 4 жыл бұрын
sry kushal...i was bit engaged....MCL can resist in both extension and semi-flexion or full flexion but the difference is that in extended position its better able to resist than in flexion or semi-flexion as MCL is maximum taut in extension, more taut it can resists more forces.
@kushmittal36
@kushmittal36 4 жыл бұрын
@@TonysTutorial okk sir. But in video you mentioned max taut at 30degree flexion
@TonysTutorial
@TonysTutorial 4 жыл бұрын
@@kushmittal36 i m coming to that kushal thats normal scenario but here there is a pecularity that at extension its not just the MCL resisting but also with help of other soft tissues around the joint.
@TonysTutorial
@TonysTutorial 4 жыл бұрын
hence if we look isolated case of mcl its maximum efficient in resisting valgus stress at the 30 degree of semiflexion compared to extension. Even though in extension the total efficiency to resist valgus is high its not just due to MCL alone. But at 30degree flexion theres only mcl acting to resist valgus.

Hi Tony.. One clarification please.. In Cynthia Norkin old edition. It says "The deep portion of the medial collateral ligament is continuous with the joint capsule, originates from the inferior aspect of the medial femoral condyle, and inserts on the proximal aspect of medial tibial plateau" My query is if tibial plateau is in transverse plane, how can it have proximal or distal aspect ? If it is, what it will be ? Kindly clarify. Thank you.
@TonysTutorial
@TonysTutorial 4 жыл бұрын
tibial pleated over here is not like a structure purely seen in transverse plane, or its not exactly as word describes ...we usually consider it expanding downwards or we usually consider a portion of upper tibia in this scenario. That would be why they say about proximal and distal attachment. It just means that one portion is inserted a bit lower than the other, nothing more.... good question...keep going
@shailkumarjain
@shailkumarjain 4 жыл бұрын
@@TonysTutorial thank you for clarifying.. clear.. but i guess then author should have used more prominent bone feature to describe the insertion. Your description was better. )) Thank you again. 👍🙏
