I Tried the Valheim Adventure Map Again

I decided to try the Valheim Adventure map again after a brief conversation with one of its creators. This video discusses the experience I had.

Well, I appreciate you taking the time to give this another go with a better understanding of what the actual project was intended to be. And understanding that adventuring gaming really isn't your thing, that you prefer the open world/survival/crafting genre, gives some context to your opinions. All in all, I think this a much better review of the playing experience than the initial vid, as you actually made the effort to play the adventure as intended, and you included some valid criticisms, with some constructive advice on how you might resolve those issues. Filling up the spaces in the road where there seems to be no activity or things to explore(the only argument for enemies being at least a portion of that filler might be for the combat skill increases you could gain from engaging with them) , perhaps including something more definitive in the portal hub describing what the experience is meant to be, beds to spawn from available within a 30 second walk of high danger areas, I agree that these are all good points that could be fairly easily addressed. One of your points that I might counter though is the availability of gear. I think they provide a good amount of gear currently if you are planning on soloing the adventure. I believe if you're playing Coop, the intention is that the players choose what the role is that they'll be playing between themselves. Standard gear that everyone will be using is supplied in quantity from the start: the starter kits, clubs, stone axes, the 10 cloaks you found later, food, etc. More specialized gear is provided for the roles available: Sword and board tank, bow for ranged players, and so on, so the specialized gear is encountered less frequently with purpose. I think it was how they intended to promote the 'roles' aspect to their project. In any case, thanks for revisiting this. I understand it's not your style of game, not all games are for everyone. But I'm glad you didn't let the vitriol of the comments in that first vid dissuade you from giving it a fair shot. Enjoy your day.

it is so cool that what they were able to achieve with the vanilla features of valheim. it looks stunning. it's clever. i can't wait to play it multiplayer once it's out of beta test

If you want to play Valheim with all its components (survival, crafting, building, etc.) then play Valheim. This adventure uses Valheim as a platform for a linear, curated experience. If you don't like that idea, or if you don't read the information given to you don't play this. You won't enjoy it. If you are interested in being told a story and going on a curated adventure, this is very well done.

(NO HATE) Ok I saw a clip bc and in that clip you said “people don’t stick with games theres about to games I’m going to use as examples one is Titanfall 2 about 3005 players are sticking including me and than fallout 4 it’s just a pretty good game

I agree. This is not realy "adventure experience" is somthing like "builds showcase". I don't that is bad, authors of map made it for MMORPG server in mind and change it to vanilla game after but it don't fit to Valheim in this form with so many empty spaces. I understand that filling all map with things it's near impossible task. Still awesome building project

The way this is designed is a total mistake. I have some issues. The forced platforming is not fun when it happens. It feels like the builds were designed then awkward platforming added as an afterthought. The amount of empty chests and sparse resources in the chests is very unsatisfying. The biggest issue is that by not integrating what already makes valheim fun with poi's it feels like a lesser linear experience. Valheim on its own just doesn't work as a linear combat-focused game. Id rather play something with great combat and better optimized if all this offers is a bare bones valheim experience I don't see the point. Its impressive but its ultimately an unsatisfying experience. If the towns had farms you could use, and the game maybe led you to queries for mining this would be alleviated. Im going to finish it, but I think they should take all of these builds and make something grand with them.

This seems to kill the whole point of Valheim. Can't wander off the road? No point in harvesting? No thanks. I will stick with vanilla. Thanks for the video.

the point of the mod is for people wanting a new experience aside from survival. def isnt for everyone but it shouldnt be looked at as just "valheim" when they are overhauling the gameplay. its no longer the same type of game
