My sister just died on April 20,2024. She went into the emergency room for a regular paracentesis ( belly fluid drainage ) and they did not do a sonogram on her belly prior to the procedure and they puncture one of her arteries and she immediately started bleeding internally. She lost a lot of blood and they immediately did a blood transfusion and within hours her kidneys started failing so they put her on dialysis immediately. She did not had any kidney issues ever but one wrong artery puncture and this happened. She had been shopping the day before and not knowing that was gonna be her last day shopping 😢 My sister was transfer by plane from McAllen Tx hospital to San Antonio Texas Transplant Hospital where she died a few days later. Please always ask for a sonogram before the procedure because one puncture on the artery and you’re dead. I am heart broken 💔 😢

Looks like Indian sub continent. The needle and equipment were sterile pre-packed sealed one time units. The procedure does not require full surgical gowning as it is considered a relatively minor procedure. It is only withdrawing fluid. Very similar to withdrawing fluid that has built up in the knee that is often just done in a doctors consulting room. Regards from South Africa

I worked in the ED for nearly 20 years and I lost count as to how many of these procedures I had to be present for. 4000 CC is nothing. Try 7500 cc. And there was more, but we decided to stop as to not compromise the blood pressure. Believe me, every CC over 5000 I was like white on rice with that patient. I can't believe they tolerated 7500 cc. We could have easily gone probably 9000 CC with a post drain ultrasound. I seriously have NO idea how that patient was still able to breath as well as they did. It was like a male being pregnant, but their bodies aren't designed for this amount of space to be taken up by intra-abdominal fluid.

They do have the one they leave in, BUT they put you on Hospice care where they come to your house to drain as often as needed.(or so they say) Then they give you morphine liquid form to shoot into your mouth. Also they quit giving you your regular drugs, like blood pressure and such. My Dr. "offered" it to me as a favor? Sounds to me they are trying to kill me faster. They gave me a have to pee pill and a potent blood pressure pill. The pee pill worked good for 3 days and stopped working. The BP pill put me to sleep most of the day. Always tired and couldn't stay awake. Now, if I have pain and take liquid morphine, I am a dead man. I've only been once about a week and a half ago to get 4 lt. drained. Now I can take a breath again for now. I don't know, but it seems like they don't care if you live or die. I had CANCER ELECTRICLY burned out of my bladder, then after a few months 4-5 I'd say, I needed draining for the first time. Then he gives me excuses why my appt. won't work today. Didn't do the right test on my urine or something, and they sure don't try to get in touch with you after you make another trip to get the right test. Funny! (not really) but I never heard of a transplant until I saw it on u-tube. Now at 68 she is telling me I am too old to get one. and is always putting down the d's that do it. And talking about them that they don't answer their phones! I have talked to someone in her office after numerous calls maybe one time. All automated. gone to lunch, dr. not in, etc. leave a message, which I have, still no call back. Left my BP machine down there, almost an hour away, they don't want to talk about it!

Why do you not use Vacutainers? It is a closed system which provides negative pressure (suction) and does not require cutting of tubes which then must be attached to other tubes (which is why you see the tiny bubbles in the tubing that then passively drains into a gravity bag.). That is because there is air infiltration which provides an open way for bacteria to enter and is unsafe. It should be an entirely closed system. Use Vacutainers!!
