This young lady is an amazing inspiration to many people of all ages with or without disabilities. Her mother is a saint. It's her sister though that inspires me. Always there in the background putting her sisters needs first, being apart of these videos but helping to make it all about her sister. I wish the whole family all the best. ( It's ok to ask a couple of lads to help lift a wheelchair up steps, that doesn't count as giving up)

When I was in the ICU following complications during surgery #2&3 which were done back to back they had put this inflatable air cushion underneath the transfer sheet and bedding that inflated and deflated different sections to prevent pressure sores and having to turn me every few hours. I kinda wish that they had kept it on my bed when I eventually moved to the Neuro floor. It would have definitely made the bed more comfortable. I don’t know about you, but the leg squeezers just caused me more pain. I still can’t sleep on my back anymore following everything that happened during surgery and afterwards and the rest of that year. God saved my life 5 different times throughout 2010-2013. He has gotten me through so much that it’s hard to believe everything I faced and was diagnosed with because it was literally one life threatening health issue after another and multiple at the same time. My Guardian Angels have been working overtime throughout my life and it’s crazy because I can look back over the years and clearly see when one or more stepped to help or protect me physically , mentally, and emotionally. I wouldn’t be alive today without them and the people God brought into my life just when I needed them most to help prepare me for whatever was coming next. This happened for the first time that I was actually aware of it in 2010. I had met 2 amazing women who quickly became my dearest friends on Facebook throughout the game Yoville. A coworker had introduced me to the game and I really had no clue what to do other than earning money to get a house and decorate them which I loved doing. I went to a help page that had people looking for new players to be friends with and one lady looked like a dear friend who sadly had passed away 10 years ago. She and I became friends both in the game and in real life and eventually she introduced me to her friend Cathy. We had so many things in common and connections that were crazy because Cathy lived in Canada, Joan in New Jersey and me in North Carolina, but my mother ‘s family came from Belgium and had immigrated to Canada and I still had family in the province where she lived. Joan lived less then 20 minutes from the city my family had lived in when I was born in NJ. I had been experiencing severe back pain and my idiot former doctor didn’t believe me and implied that it was all in my head repeatedly. I knew that Joan had survived a near fatal car accident and had broken her spine in multiple locations and had been in a halo cast for months because they had to literally rebuild her cervical spine after it collapsed. With their encouragement and a lot of prayers to God I finally stood up to my doctor and demanded that he order an MRI which he didn’t want to do. He made the process as difficult as he could and tried to embarrass me by sending me to the wrong hospital so it took a month to finally get it done. It was done on a Friday evening and he got the call with the results on the next Monday, but he didn’t bother to call me...instead he had a staff member setup my appointment with my Neurosurgeon and had her call me the next day and I had to ask her what the MRI had shown. That MRI saved my life. I quickly discovered that both Cathy and Joan had had the same surgery that I was going to have and they were able to help me prepare for it mentally and physically. I only had a few days to get everything together because I needed immediate surgery. My Neurosurgeon couldn’t believe that I could even stand up let alone walk at all or function at the level I was. Well it was because of God. He had been protecting me and keeping things under control until he could get me to the closest hospital that had the most high tech and skilled surgeons to help me. It took 20 years which is why it’s so crazy and so many miracles that got me there because according to the MRI with the location and amount of damage shown in the MRI I shouldn’t have been able to do anything at all. After the surgery he told us that the damage had been even worse and that I had been literally one wrong move away from death or becoming a quadriplegic on a respirator for the rest of my life. I have had 4 spinal surgeries so far and still need more on my lower thoracic and lumbar regions, but my surgeon retired in 2018 and I haven’t found anyone I trust enough to do it and I need to lose some more weight and the pandemic hasn’t helped that situation and the fact that I can’t drive anymore complicates things too. Because I have been having so many neurological symptoms I was advised not to drive until they figure out what is going on with me. Because I am also immune compromised due to my treatments for both breast cancer and endometrial cancer which I was also battling starting in August of 2011-2019. I discovered the lump in my right breast at the end of March 2011 a month after my mother passed away from multiple strokes. My idiot former doctor waited until 3 days before my next scheduled spinal surgeries to give me the results of my biopsy and then had the gall to suggest postponing the spinal surgeries to deal with the cancer. I literally looked at him like he was nuts and said that I would not be canceling the surgery that had been approved and scheduled for over 6 months. He turned to my husband and said that if it was his wife he would want her to take care of the cancer first. My husband said that it was a good thing that I wasn’t his wife then because I was going ahead with my spinal surgeries. An MRI back in the fall had shown that I was having the same problem with my spinal cord, vertebrae, nerves above and below the first fusion site at C4-C6 and that I needed to have fusion done on 3 sides of my spine starting at C2 and going down to T1. He also needed to do a Laminectomy in order to remove a piece of each vertebrae in the affected area in preparation of widening my spinal canal because my spinal cord couldn’t move and was becoming tethered which with everything else was causing major problems. During surgery they put a special dental guard into your mouth as part of the intubation process which helps keep your teeth and tongue protected. Anytime you have surgery while facing the floor there’s a risk that your tongue can start to swell. During the last 6 hours of my 10 hour surgery which was 2 surgeries done back to back, I was facing the floor. They really don’t know what happened or how it happened, but my tongue was injured in two places on the top surface. I have two, 2 inch long gashes on the surface of my tongue that were quite deep. This caused my tongue to swell and slowly was cutting off the amount of oxygen getting to my brain because my airway was compromised. They didn’t realize it until the alarms started going off and didn’t know the extent of the injury to my tongue and if it had affected my brain which it did. I was in critical condition in the highest level ICU as they tried to get the swelling down because I couldn’t breathe on my own. I am allergic to most adhesives and generally if they remove the surgical material they put on my skin before surgery I usually do pretty good as it has only been a couple of hours. Well this time it was on for over 10 hours and when they removed it I looked like I had 3rd degree burns on my face, neck, chest, and back from my hairline down to in between my shoulder blades. My skin was blistered and bleeding and red like the worst sunburn imaginable. It was also extremely painful and itchy as it started to heal. It has taken my husband almost 10 years to tell me about that time in the ICU because he didn’t know if I was going to survive on top of the drastic changes in my appearance and not knowing what else might have been affected by the lack of oxygen. Thankfully I don’t have pictures of myself until a month later when I was in the physical rehabilitation center. I had seen myself in a mirror during the month long hospitalization, but I have little memory from that time because of everything I went through was very traumatic and traumatized me so I now have PTSD. I spent 2 weeks as an inpatient at the physical rehabilitation center rebuilding my strength and muscle because I would have to relearn how to do everyday tasks that you don’t normally even think about. I would spend years going to outpatient physical therapy trying to regain whatever I could and learning to cope with the changes to me physically, mentally, emotionally, and cognitively because I did suffer a brain injury that would be further complicated by a life threatening infection that spread to my brain, blood, spinal/brain fluid, bone and basically everywhere that went undiagnosed for 11 months and was the cause of all of the neurological symptoms that I had been dealing with starting around September of 2011 during the daily radiation treatments for breast cancer. It is mind blowing that the infection wasn’t killed by the high doses of radiation daily that killed the swear glands and hair follicles in the same area. The doctors were shocked when pathology finally diagnosed it. It took another 10 months to kill it.
