Dexter the dog was badly injured when he was hit by a car years ago. He used a wheelchair to get around for a while, until he started walking like a human. Steve Hartman shares more in "On the Road."

That’s the 2nd one I’ve seen walking like that . The other one didn’t have a disability just taught himself to walk like a human. Never underestimate what an animal can learn what to do. I imagine he turns many heads. Wonderful

It makes sense when they adopt the behaviour due to disability, a fully able dog would never do this out of choice, be carefull what you cheer for as there are many documentaries of dogs being abused in order to get them to walk on two legs.

This was awesome. And I’m so glad that they didn’t give up on him and worked so hard to get him back to health. Animals are really good at adapting. Anytime any of my girls get sick or injured I take them to the vet and do everything possible to keep them comfortable and I will spend what I have to to get them healthy again. All 4 of my girls are cats. All rescue. 1 black cat and 3 triplet Russian Blue sisters.

I was thinking about this, too. And I wonder if he was in pain already and the nerves at just damaged and he can’t feel it? Only the dog knows. Or perhaps he’s ignoring the pain and just wanting to please his owner, as many pets do? I’m happy the dog is inspiring others but I don’t see the dog doing this for long as it isn’t natural for him. But we shall never know. I don’t think I’d have the dog walk in a parade on the hot pavement if I owned him and I would not make him an internet viral sensation either. But that’s just me not wanting to exploit my pet.

The adaptive resilience of Dexter is awesome. It is a matter of deep study by Veterinary experts as to constant use of only hind legs will be in order for this brave dog. 🐕🐕😊😊❤❤
