Today we dive deep on the Megabass Orochi XX Whipsnake! IMHO it's one of the best spinning rods Megabass (or anyone) has ever produced for bass fishing.

Thanks, Brian, love your reviews. I bought the Levante Whipsnake this off-season with the plan of using it as a dedicated jerk bait rod. Throwing one-tens and one-ten jrs. Very happy to hear your recommendation for jerk baits! I will probably experiment with weightless senkos now - but I already have an NRX and Conquest for that - a fellow rod snob!

Great review! Picked this up from Omnia in the Levante line right after watching this. Awesome rod! First megabass in my collection 😎 Just curious, have you had a chance to fish any ALX rods at all? I picked up a spinning rod in their ENOX line called the Wizard and I’m actually really impressed with it! I don’t see much on KZbin about them and everyone I talk to in IL/WI has never heard of them before it seems 😂

I agree. I also like this rod it's a nice all around rod. Good on treble hooks. I also have a similar travel version orochi xxx jade python. Very similar action and function. However I have thr 4p version travel version of this and the balance is way tip heavy compared to the 1 piece.

I got a whipsnake with the shimano twin power 3000 and it is awesome. I just got it yesterday and I caught a bunch of smallies on it and a pike, all on the Ned. It handles it very well and I had an 80% hookup ratio for my first time using the Ned rig. Today I will experiment with the Ned rig again and aim for 100% hookup ratio.

Just picked up the P5 Landsat (paired with vanford c2500shg...lovely combo to be sure). I watched your review on that stick as well... any other comments on how the two rods compare that you’ve not already mentioned? I also choke up one finger, but don’t mind the grip. My first drop shot rod was legend tournament (before the 2018 redesign). the LTB has a similar grip to the P5, and so I learned to like putting my finger on the blank...

Landsat is nearly identical to the Whipsnake, action wise. It's slightly lighter and slightly more powerful.
@dchaen
@dchaen 3 жыл бұрын
Punch is spot on regarding the action. Orochi whipsnake is fantastic. I hated my Landsat, loved it aesthetically except the fat diameter/taper for the tip section lol. My workhorse fleet are daiwa steez AGS ML (4 of them) but I tend to use my orochi whipsnake the most nowadays. Also own the Levante whipsnake, not much in the water difference between those two, love my whipsnakes. The P5 Landsat sensitivity was lacking to me, I had the same vagueness feeling on the dark sleeper too. Thought it was in my head until I ran everything side by side with the carpet feel test.

I'm taking a shot in the dark with this question. To preface, I am strictly a small river wade fisherman. I am currently using the Loomis 821S NNR as an all around rod for my style of fishing (ned, small 1/8-3/16 oz paddletails, light jigs and lighter topwater like a Labino popper. Like you, I am a tackle nerd but on a much smaller scale. The Loomis is listed as fast action. I'm wanting a rod with a little less tip and the Whipsnake is listed as extra fast. From your review it seems that there is little difference in the action between the Loomis and Whipsnake. Finally my question: Is the Whipsnake really an extra fast action?

Another great review. Love your videos. I have a question about a spinning rod setup I’m looking for. I’m heading to the Gulf shores area for a little fishing and R and R. I mostly fish the Midwest, but would like a new spring rod to handling inshore and near shore applications for flounder, and Pompano. I love the Megabass rods, but don’t own one. What would recommend for a rod in their line that can handle inshore applications, and still work for Midwest fishing? I will be pairing a 3000 series Sustain. Your opinion would be appreciated, and if you think another manufacturer would be better please advise

How would you compare the Expride 6’10” to the Whipsnake as far as taper and action? I purchased the Expride B 6’10” and thought it was very parabolic and the tip was less than fast. Im in South Florida and fish primarily for Peacock Bass, Lm and other exotics. I have a decent baitcast Arsenal for being primarily a bank angler but i need to expand my spinning arsenal for finesse but still needs to be versatile. I need a spinning rod for 3/16-1/4 oz neds, small swimbaits and soft jerkbaits . Do you think the Whipsnake will work for me? Thanks

I have a bit of a conundrum I was hoping you could help me out with. I'm looking to pick up a whipsnake and a perfect pitch, one will be in the orochi line and the other the levante line. Which rod would you choose for which line? I'm personally leaning more towards the levante spinning and orochi casting as I already have a orchi spinning and levante casting, but I ultimately want the best rod line up I can afford. Awesome vids man can wait to see the madbull and super destroyer reviews. Cheers

Wondering if the oneten's would overpower this rod given they weigh 1/2oz where the whipsnake is rated for 3/8oz. Based on your review I'm assuming its not an issue but the oneten jr. would you say it's a bit light (or full medium might be a better bet) for throwing small swimbaits, say 1/8 to 1/4 in shallower water applications? Still trying to figure out how you throw the 1/2 oz Dark Sleeper on a Brigand, rated to 5/8 oz.? Been looking at Enforcer and Windbuster, and am still not convinced that either can throw 1/2 oz comfortably.
@PunchFishing

I would say 1/8oz swimbaits would be right in it's wheelhouse. 1/4oz could be a bit much. Brigand is way more powerful than you'd think if you get a chance to try one out. It handles the 1/2oz dark sleepers like nothin.
