Because a lot of us want our cities to grow and improve, and we (the young) are willing to do so, but the elderly are the ones holding us back at the moment. But that's my take on these things. I lived in Japan for 5 years. It is very clean and organized, and beautiful. A great place to visit. But you wouldn't want to live there. Especially if you are Japanese. Foreigners are expected to be different, but Japanese must conform. The nail that sticks up its head must be hammered down. And it will be. The people are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and respectful. Kind of like boy-scouts. But, they are not happy. Their lives are full of all sorts of obligations and constraints and they have almost no personal choice. They are forced into a mold and they must conform to it. And it's a nightmare. But they won't even tell you about it unless you become one of their closest friends.

Sao Paulo COULD be beautiful. But it will take a long time to get there. People can romanticize the slums as much as they want to, but it's an awful way to live and they're an absolute eyesore. There are constant floods thanks to the stupid decision by moronic politicians in the past to canalize the Tiete, Pinheiros and Tamanduatei rivers, not to mention the large avenues built right next to them. There are still spiderwebs of power and data lines on every street, and nowhere near enough trees to help dealing with the heat. There's tons of potential, but it's nowhere near beautiful as it is now. Unless you're a rich person who doesn't get to see all of the poverty.

What an amazing job!! Many thanks from São Paulo! Loved the positive atitude towards the Future. A lot has already been done to try and solve the water body ishues. Anyway, we now have some radioactive sort of mutant capybaras living at the banks of Pinheiros River, despite the rotten smell ;)

1:06:59 That's Frankfurt. I see this stock footage used often, and I'm pretty sure it's used incorrectly much of the time.

The Paris metro is not the most "extensive on the continent" as you said since Moscow's metro is about twice as long.

7:16 - "...and it's getting ready to put on a show for the entire world. In the summer of 2020, it'll host the Olympic Games..." Ouff... Then came COVID-19 and abruptly changed that to 2021. 😓
