I knew a neighbor kid who had Battle Convoy from the Diaclone line which his father bought him at a Japanese flea market in 1985, although I can't remember if it had the mini-figures or all of the other pieces.

Agree, a tank is a great alternative form for him but it annoys me when i see a modern Megatron as i am thinking "He is supposed to be a gun". If he had been a tank from the beginning i wouldnt be thinking that way.

I too received Optimus Prime for Christmas. I distinctly remember how excited I was getting him. First thing I did was show my childhood best friend, who happened to be by next door neighbor. We would show each other our Christmas gifts through the windows of our houses that were facing each other. Such a great memory. I think that was the same Christmas I received Megatron as well. He turned out to be my favorite Transformer of all time. He looked silly as a robot but something about him was still cool to me. Thanks for sharing your memories. Love your minty white Jetfire.

Nice video, thanks. I remember back then getting Jetfire for Christmas one year. What an awesome, sturdy jet/robot. I had trouble figuring out how to transform from jet to bot I remember that Christmas. He was a much larger scale figure than all the other ones, like a giant bot. And the jet mode was giant too, so the scale wasn't quite on par for humans. But the whole line was inconsistent with the mini bot vehicles too.

My brother did receive Optimus Prime one Christmas, but I think it was '86. I had the Slime Pit from Masters of The Universe. He won that year. Topspin and Twintwist wouldn't have appealed much to me either, as they're a bit gimmicky. However, in the comic they were members of an elite group called The Wreckers who were well hard! Nice story about Jetfire. Funny how toys can bring back such great memories. A merry Christmas to you 🎄

Pretty similar story here, I really wanted Optimus Prime but received the Bandai The winch Robo Toyota transformer. Again like you I purchased the 2000 Optimus Prime reissue which came with the trailer. You can tell these reissue's by the short pipes on the shoulders compared to the originals or later reissues. Your video brought back some great family Christmas memories.

The reason Jetfire was highly impressive was that if you recall a certain anime called Robotech (or in Japan, Super Dimension Fortress Macross), there were similar toys called Veritech fighters, more speifically the VF-1S Super Valkyrie which in addition to a jet and robot mode, there was a mid-mode where the jet reveals arms and legs. Basically, Hasbro licensed the toy from Bandai which went against Takara's deal to license the Diaclone and Microman toys to the US under the Transformers label. Either way, it was the most techiest toy in the line.

I opted for soundwave and thundercracker back in 84, soundwave was a cool piece. I owned a few then donated them to booth hall in 90. FFD to about 15yrs ago i wanted them all back, so i now have the two aforementioned plus Megs, jetfire. I personally love megs tbf. I do have a battered prime which i got off a carboot for next to nothing

I never asked for Optimus Prime, not because i didnt like him, i guess i just had other favorites i wanted more. As a kid i had: JetFire, Metroplex, Scorponox, Skywarp, Scourge, Lamborghini Countach Stunticon. I was pretty happy with the ones i got gifted, i am getting Optimus Prime this year for xmas, its the cartoon colours G1 Optimus Prime with trailor, i wanted the original vintage style so didnt ask for the missing link version.

So,, to add insult to injury, first world, kid stuffs Grandma's gift under the bed and later sells him on ebay. Cool story!

I have a similar story from Christmas of 1984; I was six years old and wanted Optimus Prime, just like all my friends did. I knew it'd be boring if everyone had the same toy when my friends and I played Transformers, so I asked for Megatron, probably one of the easiest Transformers toys to find at the time. I liked having that toy because he could pull double duty as a reasonable toy gun when we'd play army. I never got Optimus Prime as a child, nor do I have him or any other Transformers as an adult. Forty years on, I still remember that Christmas very fondly . . . I only wish (as people our age do) that everyone who was there in '84 could still be here in '24.

I got Optimus prime for Xmas. Was a great toy. The little shit next door pulled his arm off. To this day I hate that kid. Good choice of grandma thoigh. I would love jetfire. Especially later on in life being a fan of anime and learning that his design was based on the macross valkyries

Transformers weren't on my Christmas list, but I couldn't tell you what was in 1985. Think that was the year I got a personnel stereo and a copy of the Quo album, Back to Back. But I can't remember what toys I got, assume it would have been Action Force as I did get the annual that year.

Looking back, I wish they used the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie from the 1984 Do You Remember Love? film for Jetfire since that version had a gun emplacement in its right thruster pack.

You better get your hands on the new Walmart reissue before they are gone! 40th anniversary Optimus Prime in animation colors! Even the trailer stripe! The Prime that should have been released from the very beginning! That said, I do own like 3 original 1984 Optimus Primes, complete. ( Two #2 Takara "T" trailer pre rub variants and a Hasbro #2 "T" variant) I also own an MP-01 Masterpiece with trailer, two 2005 Toys R US Optimus Prime reissues, two Missing Link C0-2 Optimus Primes, the recent Hot Wheels Track Fleet Optimus Prime, Two SS86 Optimus Primes, Two Earthrise Primes, Two WFC Primes and two G2 Optimus Primes... I've got a PRIME problem, LOL!

'85 really was the year of Transformers, no other toy mattered. Still have my OG G1 Optimus Prime and Megatron + a few others, including Twin Twist. Just loved the look of that guy, haha. But I can't find Starscream anywhere. Dunno what I've done with him. Spewing coz he's my favourite by a mile. Starscream is all about Starscream and everyone else can eat it. Such a massive dickhead, lmao P.S. We legit had to cancel Christmas in 2015. Everyone came down with gastro. Just ran through the whole fam. Pretty rough couple of days. It's forever known as "Shitmas" 💩😆

I had one of the jumpstarters as a kid and never liked it. They were another pre-transformers toy that got lumped in with the american re-releases and a whole different aesthethic etc. Funny thing is these japanese robot jumpstarter weirdos went on to be part of a Dirty Dozen syle team only in the Transformers UK comics by Simon Furman.

I can't remember the exact year so assume either 84 or 85 i had Optimus, Megatron, Soundwave and Jazz and my sister had Skywarp so i was very spoiled. I remember yellow Bumblebee being a tough one to get. I settled for a red one.

SKYFIRE, NOT JETFIRE !!! Secondly, yes, Megatron is a Horrible toy and his original design as a gun was Not a good thing for young children. It was clearly sending the wrong message to children about Weapons . And the simple fact that All of the other transformers Were entirely vehicles made No sense. Why have everyone else as a vehicle and one alone as a concealed weapon. Makes absolutely No sense at all and clearly sends the wrong message To children and people in general. I agree that's a horrible toy and character.

@AllThings80s First of all, in the Original series his name was SKYFIRE. Secondly I was born in the 70s. So I was born before this country started having problems with this sort of thing so I can clearly see how it was a problem.
