@@countrymama2839 being non-religious myself and knowing many non-religious people, I don't find that is necessarily true for the majority. It's more that as a group, if we give an inch, others try to take a mile and try to get us to see "why we are wrong". It's not that we don't have interest in others beliefs and it's not that we look down on them, it's simply that we don't want our own beliefs attacked because they are still beliefs and we still have morals. I'm sure there are absolutely some non-religious people who are downright rude and disregarding, but I feel more often than not non-religious people are leaning on the side of caution and just keep to themselves.

I really appreciate your gentleness, humility, and Christlikeness in this video. I am not Mennonite, but I am a Christian… I’m a member of a Southern Baptist church. I think we honestly have far more in common than we have different as far as worldviews and lifestyles go. One thing I really love that you spoke about is the concept of aging. That is something that I feel our culture devalues so much. The Bible talks over and over again about the honor and inner beauty and wisdom that comes with age, and I honestly look forward to the wrinkles and the greying hair because that will mean that I’ve had the gift of getting to live life with the people I love, serving the Lord together. Of course there is that balance of still taking care of our bodies and practicing health and hygiene! But I’m thankful that I don’t have to feel that pressure or being tanned, toned, and twenty-five forever. Living as a Christian releases us from so many temporal and unnecessary things. 🤍 May the Lord bless you and yours, Megan!

I’m a teenager and I grew up wearing jeans, long shorts, skirts, and dresses. I’ve never worn something that’s shows anything that should be covered. Basically everything you said, was how I was raised and whole heartedly agree with, except that I’m not a Mennonite! This year though, God has put it on my heart to wear more skirts and dresses. And yes, I have gotten comments about how cute they were (and some weird looks😝). To the people that ask why I wear skirts and dresses, I tell them that I want to be modest because it’s what God wants, which shares my faith. (I got most of the dresses and skirts from Inherit!) I think people are so used to seeing immodest dressed teenagers nowadays that the modest dressed teenagers stand out. So, I just wanted to thank you for the clothing inspiration, and your beautiful personality! You are a person that I look up to, as I approach adulthood. Thanks again!

But I feel so hopeful to see that there are young people like you who can see the value in not going along with that to fit in. You must be a really good kid. I hope you treasure that ability to think for yourself, if I had that at that time I may not have endured a life of addiction and bad choices starting in my teen years and changing the course of my entire life. Megan, I loved so much of what you said about Mennonite culture. I am Jewish and raised my children in a Chabad synagogue. The topics you addressed about being or bringing light into the world, modesty, head coverings, brotherhood/sisterhood, following the words in the Bible / Torah, daily worship, our inner being vs outer ( makeup, Botox ) etc. are very similar to how my family lives. I don’t wear makeup, taught my kids not to leave the house with dirty or torn clothes, only bought modest, age appropriate clothes, not frumpy, for my 4 kids, sent my girls to girls only camps, and my husband (29 years) and I love each other very much and have not worn wedding rings for 25 years. I enjoy your channel mostly because we have very similar values and I learn so much about your culture. There is something so special about women who are “women of valor- eshet chayil (proverbs 31 10-31) The more we know about others the more we can appreciate what is special and the less fear about what is unknown and misunderstood.

People saying that they hope you hate LGBTQ people and other religions.. oh it was so horrible. I find this interesting. I use to think of Mennonite as living simply, but after watching some Mennonite KZbinrs, including Megan- I don’t (in my opinion) feel they live simply. They have fancier homes and home decor than I do. They keep up with trends and remodel their homes to participate in those trends. One I watch even collects vintage cars. I’m not saying this judgmental way- but, just very surprised. I don’t view this as living simply. I do admire and respect their Christian values, value of fellowship and family, and modesty.

As someone who is currently expecting an IVF baby, I can tell you with certainty that nobody experiences more anguish over those "leftover" embryos than their biological parents. We can't control how many embryos come from a cycle, and they are most definitely our children that we wish we could realise. There are options to donate the embryos to other women trying to become mothers, which is wonderful. Also, in some countries like Australia where I live, it is incredibly difficult near to impossible to adopt. I would've gone down that route if it was possible or as accessible as it is in the US. For those who haven't experienced the anguish of infertility, it is impossible to understand the journey that leads to the decision to undertake IVF.

I'd be happy to talk to anyone including you Megan😉 if interested 👍 I kinda doubt any Christian who goes through the process "abandons" any of their embryos...first there usually aren't a ton and second they don't select the best. They usually watch them as they develop and sadly only the strongest survive....I still remember the deep soul wrenching sadness that we felt each time we lost one precious embryo. It seems people who have never had to walk the road of infertility are very quick to say...."oh I'd never do that". So I try to remember that when I have never been in some one else's shoes ❤️

Funnily enough, the reason I found your channel was because I saw a group of teenage Mennonites out at a restaurant. I had never seen anyone dressed that way before, so I went down the Google rabbit hole researching Mennonites and found my way to your channel. As a Christian, I have so enjoyed learning about the Mennonite way of life and watching your family grow!

I grew up independent fundamental Baptist (IFB, different than southern Baptist) and I had no idea that Mennonites are derived from the same history! Thanks for teaching me something new! 😊

A lot of hard questions with hard answers Megan! ☺️ There were some other comments on this as well and I agree…..just a thought I had while listening as a fellow anabaptist……. I know there can be very rude people in the anabaptist culture, but I don’t think we should all be lumped together as being rude! As you mentioned you’re are used to getting “ looks”, and you live in a huge anabaptist community. I am German Baptist and wear a full cap and dress, so I feel like I stand out even more than you! You would think people would be used to seeing us by now but, most common question is, are you Amish? Sometimes when you’re being stared down like you’re an alien from another planet it’s easier to go about my own business!! I know that can come off as rude but it goes both ways!! I am also a very shy introvert, I try to smile and be friendly and I think it should be reciprocated!! Always teach my children not to stare and smile and be friendly! Not speaking for everyone and I know I can do better at being more like Jesus, just find it interesting that others think we’re the ones being rude! No one likes to be stared at! ❤️

Your emotions when discussing the makeup question hit me! Yes, you are truly blessed to be in a culture that does not put emphasis on outer vanity. The crazy thing is…my husband tells me all the time I don’t need to wear makeup and prefers me to look natural. Most women in our worldly culture do it in honesty not to impress their spouse but to compete with other women….which is just sad! Definitely trying to take a more natural approach to my ‘beauty’ regime

One of my favorite videos Megan!!! You did such a great job, I loved what you said about the narrow mindset!! I grew up Mennonite but not super conservative. My Dad worked with conservative Mennonites and Amish, and it was a hard reality to feel like my Dad’s bosses and families disapproved of us because we were not as conservative. Loved your overall dress!! Checking out Amazon now! :)

hello not trying to start an argument or anything negative. i just wanted to say that for ivf you don't have to have the embryos tested and discarded. we didn't have them tested and we froze the extras and tried to get pregnant later with them after we had our twins but unfortunately none of those stuck. but there are Christian ways to do ivf. We did. the doctors might recommend this or that but they don't force you. I had concerns as well about ivf and if it was going against the Bible. So I did a lot of research and asked lots of questions to the doctors and also prayed about it and sought council from my pastors. In the end i ended up with beautiful twins, a boy and a girl, and they have been the biggest blessing to us, our family, and our ministry (my husband became a pastor right after they were born and we are now missionaries). If you don't agree with it that's fine. but I just wanted to share my story because I think people who haven't been through it don't have a lot of actual facts about how it actually works. I know because the stuff I found on the internet was not what i actually experienced doing it. everything that was questionable about it was able to be modified in some way so that we didn't have to compromise our beliefs. at least in my situation that was the case. just wanted to share my experience.

I bet making this type of video makes you anxious. I just want you to know that I think most of us like you just the way you are. Thats why we are drawn to your channel. If you ever come across a question that's going to upset you or in anyway make you anxious don't answer it. Most people no matter how you put it will never understand and try to pick at every single explanation. If you don't feel peace about the question don't answer it. ❤

I appreciate you sharing modesty. I came from a very conservative church and people often ask me if I am mennonite. I am not but my church was founded by a former mennonite. I do wear a wedding ring but that is it. No piercings, very little makeup (mostly mascara because of my blond eyelashes), and I wear conservative clothes. I enjoy watching you channel and totally relate to your way of life. Thank you again for sharing!

Oh, as I’m watching this, another thing: concerning makeup, I asked my hubby how I looked when we’d been married a few days how I looked after I’d done my makeup. He said “You’d look a lot better without all that junk on your face!” So, I don’t do makeup much anymore.

It was so interesting to me to hear your answers. I go to (and am on staff at) à non-denominational Christian church that also believes in pursuing biblical truth. Our church is probably sooo sooo different than yours (very non traditional) and yet for the most part we have the same beliefs and we love the same god. Good reminder to not be judgemental. Also I loved how you answered not From a place of judgement or condemnation, but honesty and humility 💗.

I'm Pentecostal, some might also say I'm Messianic, because we are really into the Hebrew roots of our Christian faith... but, like being a Mennonite, there are so many variations of personal convictions within those faiths! Sometimes when I'm watching your videos, I can relate to so much of what your saying about the Mennonite faith and culture, that I feel a little bit Mennonite too! 😂 I wear a headcovering and have since I was 6 years old, I dress along the same lines of modesty that you follow, etc.. I have/had several Mennonite friends throughout my life, as well as ex-Mennonites who have held onto many of the Mennonite convictions and I have visited in their circles. There are definitely SO many variations of Mennonite and I believe you answered all of these questions very well, without downing or offending anybody on the inside or the outside of the Mennonite faith/culture!!🙌 Also, I love what you pointed out about -letting- your light shine... so good!💖

Megan, Thank you so much for sharing all of this information and doing Q&A videos! I’m new-ish to your channel and have learned so much already. I especially appreciate your candor and honesty and how willing you are to answer questions from non-Mennonites. My grandparents all grew up Mennonite in Lanc Co, but I was raised in a fundamental evangelical church and realized I don’t know a lot about the culture they came from. I also think growing up in rural Lanc Co surrounded by the “plain” community I formed some unhealthy judgements from just a few limited experiences or observations. Your videos inform and challenge those opinions, and I’m enjoying learning from an “inside” perspective. Also, most importantly, thank you for all you are doing to share the light of Christ with your audience! Your influence is motivating me to examine how I could do that better in my own life. ❤

When I am around them in Lancaster and the surrounding areas sometimes you do run into them not really wanting to be bothered but the thing of it is I understand so I love how you said though that you wish they would be more open because that personally is what I try to do even if it’s somebody I don’t agree with I try and be open and friendly and show love and that’s what I think everyone is looking for. Love and acceptance. I love watching your channel you’re an amazing person ❤️

I first heard the name Mennonite when I was young in the early 1960’s. My great aunt & uncle had a lovely Mennonite couple who worked in their home. I remember my Aunt Rosalee (Rosy) carefully considering the scheduling, mindful of the days they weren’t able to work & were very respectful of their culture & faith as Protestant Christians themselves. Stuck with me for some reason.

Our family joined a Mennonite church a year and a half ago. We’ve felt very very welcomed. But we have an “in” My husband was raised Mennonite and his grandpa was a church elder. I imagine as an “outsider” the Mennonite faith can look pretty exclusive. Our church is trying to figure out how to be more welcoming, especially to people of other ethnicities and races.

Hi! I’m a long time subscriber from Holmes county, Ohio and while I grew up english and Christian, I’m obviously surrounded by Amish and Mennonites. As you said, the narrow minded attitudes are very real in this community. You can tell immediately which ones are kind just by their look at you. Some of the best people I’ve ever met are Amish and Mennonite and also some of the worst are. No matter where you come from, you have that judgement. I work on being completely non judgmental of everyone because I believe God wants us to love every single human being no matter their choice of lifestyle. At the end of the day, what matters is serving Him in ALL we do ❤️ p.s. I love your content and videos so much! Thanks for always giving me good, quality videos to watch while I am working or have free time!

Great job explaining how the Mennonites are and came from. I myself have become more of a modest dresser / no makeup jewelry (a story behind why) to which I give God the glory for giving me the strength to dress the way I do now and wear the head veil. I know the exact moment when I was convicted of this and being obedient has given me great freedom and peace not to mention my husband loves it. My friends in Lancaster love my transition and have told me they wish more would do so. Like the verse, you quoted let your light shine and I hope people see that light in me. Thanks for always being real with your channel and for sharing. Blessings to you and your family.

I have been feeling this conviction to dress more modest lately. I am in a weight loss journey now and am going to be buying dresses and skirts when I get to my weight goal (I will need to buy all new clothes as it is so why not then?). I have had the hardest time trying to figure out what dresses to get. I told my husband that I would wear a dress if I could find some like the Mennonite wear...but you don't find clothes like that at Walmart! I recently found dresses that are practical and pretty and modest (all hard to find in stores IMO) so i have my wish list and am awaiting the day. I expect to be there 5.5 months 😊 I can't wait. I also can't believe I can't wait to dress in dresses daily. I never saw this conviction coming. My husband is fine with this new way of me dressing so I am happy about that too. In the mean time I am praying God give me the confidence to do this daily as an outwardly sign of my faith.

I spent several years visiting a Mennonite church in NW PA and your church culture is amazing. I have yet to find a church outside of your culture that is as beautifully knit together in the love of Jesus. I’m a member of a loving church now but it still a far cry from Mennonite. And the lack of pressure for “beauty” was amazing. I never had to be insecure about not wearing make up or styling my hair or jewelry…etc. Being in my young 20s this was refreshing enough to make me tear up too. 😉 I loved this video 🥰

to anyone: I respect anyone's decision to be modest -- for their own self. I just hope it's never because they're told they have to--by family, by their Bible, or whichever. If you(any person) want to wear a tank top and shorts, do it. You don't have to feel uncomfortable because your legs are showing, theyre JUST legs (or shoulders or ankles or back, ITS JUST THAT). Another person's opinion of you isn't your business. Stay kind friends❤️
