Very helpful. Just acquired a '74 Series 2 LWB pickup out of Africa, military spec 24 spline, and blew up the front diff. Obviously, your video upload is a wealth of knowledge for we beginners into Land Rover. -- Thank you. --

I know it's 9 years later, but that just uncovered a lot of terms I've been reading about in a very clear way. Thanks.

4 pin diffs are available on some landrover defenders - they were put as standard on the wolf Defenders these are the Army spec defenders. My company made the cast casings for them. Manufactured in Ductile iron, the same as the 2 pin diffs. not billet as yours are. love your mods, very well thought out.

I have tried it about a month ago and was done by ashcroft and still running great. Since i used ashcroft axles and pinions and pegging i have no issues any more up to now.

What nobody will state is...that if you change the diff centre for something stronger than standard, it reduces the need for diff pegging. It also helps to put in high tensile bearing carrier bolts with built in washers because the original 8.8 bolts stretch and flex under high loads encouraging the cw to ride up over the pinion.

what the hell is diff pegging,,just buy dana.or maybe the whole vehicle,prob solved.
@HendriMouton5 жыл бұрын
Not entirely true. Once you increase the strength of the diff center you immediately shift the weakest point. This time the R&P. I've got an Ashcroft Locker and blew my R&P after 1.5 years. Now it's time to peg before I lose my locker due to shrapnel.

I broke about 10 axles front and real, eight stubs and two heavy duty crown wheel and pinions (ashcroft). I will try this, it make sense for the crown wheel.

core material.??b/s,its the surface area.more splines more surface area.= stronger.they never advanced from 1950.
@petemoralesadams4 жыл бұрын
The surface area doesn't effect shearing. That would effect the contact stress. It's the cross-sectional shear area of the splines and the shaft that determine its strength. The bigger splines reduce the diameter of the shafts shear area. You get the same effect with bolts, good practise is for things to fail in the diameter rather than the spline or thread.

why do you put up with failiers,nothing wrong with dana diffs,30,35 spline,any ratio,any width,good enough for corvettes,jags,volvo,ford gm dodge,jeep.milloins of parts,cheap.probably cheaper than nissan from what ive seen.dana 44 is stronger than a gm 10 bolt,nearly same as ford 9",buy american,its proven.
