I want to point out L absolutely realized immediatly it was misa and clearly wasn’t persuaded that it wasn’t, he was well aware the second Kira, the Kira who only needed a face, who had seen his face, was out and killing again, and his time was very limited, he knew hew was correct, he knew the 13 day rule made no sense and he knew he had a limited time to test it, he did not know rem was dedicated to Misa and he did not know light was playing off that didcarion and fear for her or he’d very likely have played his hand diffrently

Every time I see people think the opposite it…..hits wierd for me, because for me he sits like I do, he has so many of the quarks that I do, he eats pretty normally aside from having a strong sweet tooth but….uhhh yeah we relate there too, like to me he is just very autistic coded m I see a lot of myself in him and I understand him, so when people react like he isn’t human, it just reminds me a lot of …..how jarring autistic mannerism quarks are to non autistic people

I completely disagree personally. Maybe it’s because I’ve read the manga and watched supplementary material. But L is barley human, I mean the creator himself said that basically. “L lied when he told light he was his first friend. L doesn’t want friends as he believes humans are far too cunning a species” or “L does not like sweet foods, nor any food. He simply eats it around others as eating is a human thing to do and sugar gives energy” Or look at L’s monster speech it’s basically him admitting to being a sociopath. The only times he feels happy is when he wins and the only time he feels sad is when he loses.

@@doobzsalam1847humans lie….like all the time, and I know a lot of autistic people who lie as part of thier masking to survive, lying is extremely human trait, as for his liking or dis liking sweets re his monsters speech, I do think L did like sweets but also needed them as a sort of stim and ate them when he had no hunger, and yeah I see his monsters speech reflecting some deep inside negative self feelings or views and perspective of himself, especailly ones he probably formed growing up,, which a lot of people experience, and again is extremely relatable, to me l is extremely human and very relatable

I have ADHD, and could very well be on the spectrum myself (haven't gotten formally diagnosed like with my ADHD because of the hassle but see myself in certain traits). I've always related to neurodivergent people more, and can't relate to people who seem more socialized and "put together" when it's so exhausting for me to mask all the time.

"I hear the bell." I think that was L's way of admitting to Light that he knew what was likely going to happen. He hears the death knell, the tolling of a bell marking the end of his time. I personally never made it past a few episodes into Part 2... the dynamic between L and Light was the most compelling part of the whole show imo. But if you keep going I'll definitely continue the journey with you :)

the new guys are actually pretty decent in the manga. l's death was the halfway point there. here they compress the back half into half the episodes which really is felt in a negative way

This is a very common reaction. The show could theoretically end here perfectly fine, but it does have an ending with more plot. This is one of the most controversial episodes of anime and has been a top contender for many years. I didn't feel the same watching it either, but the outcome and finale is pretty damn good ngl. Like they did a good job selling a hard death to take. What I cannot emphasize enough, though, is this: sometimes some characters that are beloved by the masses needs to be killed off in shows like this because if not, then they keep coming back to life over and over. I don't want to make any references... so ill say like goku. He comes back too much, they never finish the job and put the nail in the coffin so you always know he's going to be there no matter what. Sometimes characters SHOULD die so the story can be more compelling for the final act to be more satisfying. Too often do we get into a show and you know the fan base wont let certain characters die, and again please don't spoil other shows. This is a tough sell and something that should happen more often. That's my personal opinion on this one.

Big time Biblical reference in this episode. L toweling off Light's feet is a pretty direct reference to Jesus washing the feet of the disciples at the Last Supper, including Judas, knowing full well the betrayal that was coming.

Fun facts about L the true GOAT of Death note: - He prevented ww3 when he was just 8 years old - He is the favorite character of the creators of Death Note Tsugumi Öba and Takeshi Obata - Tsugumi and Takeshi said that they now regret killing L in the story and would make a different ending. - There are two novels about some of his most interesting cases. One book is called "L change the world" and the other is "Death note: Another note" - L hates socks - He only sleeps 3 hours a day (If he sleeps) which is also the reason he eats so much sugar. - L knew he was dying soon Although I believe Kira killed L In the end L lost the battle but won the war. I mean just the fact that Near and the others always asked themselves "What would L do?" is proof of that.

Some symbolism to point out, in one of the last conversation Jesus has with Judas, Jesus is washing his feet, which is where that kinda strange scene comes in here. Biblically, it's supposed to show God as being a humble servant, whereas reversing the roles here show that "God" is a malicious liar who wants others to serve him

I like the old live action ending of this anime much better. In the live action movie, L "wins" in the end. L was sure that Light and Misa were Kiras and decided to bet his own life on it. He wrote his own name into the death note and set the time of death to be 28 days later (the maximum amount of time delay allowed on death note). He essentially became unaffected by subsequent writing of his name by Rem, because his name was already written on the death note and the death note rule states that whatever that gets written in the note cannot be reversed or changed. He faked his own death and let Light think he won and show his true color out in the open. After beating Light, L dies 28 days later, having solved the greatest case of his life.

one thing is a lot of this episode is anime original, theres no rain scene on the manga at all, nor misas scene. so a lot of this is up to interpretation since it's not part of the authors intentions, anime made up slightly different characters so yeah... maybe not worth looking that much into it. (although i did enjoy your interpretation of it)

l knew light had regained the power. he knew he would be dead soon especially if he threatened kira by testing the rule. he also knew he had to. the bell is often used as a symbol for death and funerals. see hemingway's "for whom the bell tolls" or the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald. "the church bell chimed,, till it rang 29 time, for each man on the edmund fitzgerald. the foot washing and atoning for sins was his concession to Light. he knew Light had a god's complex and he would like it. it was his way of admitting and accepting that he lost their game. it's quite a contrast to another death many fans of this show will think of can't say where the death is from though unfortunately as it is a spoiler for that series

@@johnpaullogan1365 Misa's life was already going to be shortened by Light anyway. Rem knew that he was the reason. It's a supernatural notebook that can control the actions of people written in it. Shinigami can erase memories with a touch. If Rem writes that Light confesses to being Kira, pulls out the death note pieces he possesses, and says that he was framing Misa the entire time, and that he was using her and planned to get rid of her when the coast was clear, and then he's gotta do it. The Death Note would be in control of Light AND Misa's life could have been spared at the same time with competent writing. Having Light be publicly executed by the police as written by Rem after 13 days, or however long the justice system wanted. Rem knew Light was going to sacrifice her to save Misa. It just could have been written differently.

Light was faking when he was acting like he was upset about Ls death to make it seem like he was innocent. Even as L was looking at Light as he was dying, he knew he was right all along while Light was smiling that he defeated his nemesis. I never liked Light when he started using the notebook. No matter what others do, Only God has the right to determine who lives and who dies. You should see L's funeral...:(

The first time I watched that feet-washing scene not knowing the Bible reference, the scene felt very homo-erotic to me and it left me very confused (about myself as well). It made me think that despite their rivalry, they were kinda fond of each other, or at least L was of Light.

But their relationship transcends friendship, and maybe isn't as simple as "attraction" like we know it, but an intimacy stemming from understanding, rivalry, etc. Which I believe is queer, unique, whatever you want to call it. It’s not a deleted scene, it’s from the first relight movie, which is pretty much the first part of the series condensed into a two hour movie with some extra scenes added into it (the L’s funeral scene being one of them).
